  1. Going to do a simple build of the modern U.S. warship USS Independence LCS-2. Will not get bogged down in a lot of aftermarket items, just a couple of add-ons and the kit supplied photo etch. The Independence is an assault transport ship designed for littoral combat and a variety of missions.
  2. Before you glued the Oerlikon gun pedestals to the gun mounts, did you file off flat the little brass pin, or did you glue the gun mounts to the pins? I found that the pin didn't fit the hole in the mount, the pin being too large in diameter. The mounts were too fragile for me to re drill the holes a little larger to fit the pins. So opted to file the pin off flat against the top of the pedestal. It doesn't take much to have parts of those assemblies to fly off into the nether regions even after they've been glued together. God forbid a cat or something of that sort brush up against them after they're built.
  3. Can't recall exactly what I had to do because it's been more than a year since my DoY build, but I used fine wire as pins to hold the crane boom to the cab as well as the piece attached to the boom and all the pieces were movable including the swing pivot/shaft that went into the deck. If I remember correctly, I may have had to re drill the holes in the deck for those to fit. Is that where you had problems getting things lined up, Greg. At the deck?
  4. With the crazy high prices and interest modelers show in the antiquated 1:200 Nichimo Yamato kit, I have to believe there would be a market for a newly tooled 1:200 Yamato. And if they added a 1:200 KGV too, that would be magical.
  5. I've got a number of Japanese warships I need to start and finish. But some of those gun details are intimidating, like your triples. I should start and build my 1:250 Akagi. It's a little larger which is a benefit to my old tired eyes. A 1:250 Yamato with lots of details waiting in the wings, too.
  6. So glad to hear this. If I was your next door neighbor, we would probably have lots of laughs and good times. I love a good sense of humor and not taking oneself too serious, too often.
  7. I sincerely hope you're just joking with us and not serious. One trouble with forum communications like these is that one cannot see the facial expressions and body language that gives us clues when levity is intended. At the least, a family owes their father respect and love for the dedication and commitment they have given to them over the years. Think how many poor children are out there who know no father whatsoever in their lives.
  8. Really? Well, there you go, we have something in common. I too was in bands in the 60's, though. Jazz, blues, and dance bands. No singing, I played the sax.
  9. Haven't heard OC's singing voice yet, so couldn't say with any certainty I like or dislike it. But I do like his latest paint job. Maybe you need to record a singing audition for us, OC, and post it here. I double-dog dare 'ya.
  10. Cluttered? Are you kidding? I see room for lots more stuff in there. It's not packed to the ceilings (yet) like mine.
  11. I am slowly (very slowly) working up the courage to take on a paper ship model due to Dan's beautiful work. Although I am totally aware he's making the difficult look easy when it's really not. The clean, neat finish of his models are remarkable. It's hard to believe it's paper.
  12. What a great looking printer that Folger FT5. I never heard of it until now. Looks very beefy and precise. Really like that auto level feature. Does it ship from the USA, or China?
