On a different subject: do I recall you saying that you use a spray-can of clear acrylic over top of your printed parts before handling them? -

All I accomplished so far is to: a) separate the pages by removing the staple that held them together, and: b) scan the instructions then tried many times to convert them so as to translate I have wasted far too much time with very little success but once I got some success, I learned it was all a long climb for a short slide. The instructions seem to provide very little helpful information. Rather than waste any more time on this, I think I will plod ahead and see what I can do just by looking at the pictures. Doesn't look all that complicated. -
It’s time to get my feet wet with card modeling. I’ve seen enough to believe a beautiful model can be built from card, but it’s going to take time, practice, and patience. I hope I have chosen a kit that will not be overly difficult for my first try but challenging enough to keep my interest. Hopefully my first try will not be relegated to the waste bin before I finish it. If you have any words of advice or criticism, please by all means pass them on. I’ll need all the help I can get.

Lights are back in operation. How true is the old saying, “we don’t know what we got till it’s gone” In the middle of my work room is an old ceiling fan. I have three natural light 60 watt equivalent bulbs in it. Bright “natural” light. Above one of my work tables hangs a shop light with two natural light tubes.. My work table has a riser on top on the back side of the table. On top of the riser I placed a light blue fabric remnant I got from a discount scrap pile at the fabric store. Behind it I stand a piece of blue construction paper From the dollar store. I take my photos using my new iPhone 14 with a 48 MP camera. I’ve been snapping the photos from 3 or 4 feet away then cropping the photos in the edit function of the iPhone. -
I’ve read where modelers use stretched sprue for rigging. Cheap and it attaches with ease. Getting consistent diameter stretched sprue would take some practice and patience. All plastic sprue is not created equal when it comes to heating and stretching it. Been there and done that with mixed results but have never tried to do enough of it for an entire model ship.

I’m not ignoring you Jack, early this morning a transformer down the street blew up and we have been without power since then. The power company says it will be restored by the end of the day so I will take some photos when the power comes back up. I really don’t feel like starting the generator and touting all the extension cords unless I have to. -
You really did something special with this Mike. A model to be admired and proudly displayed. Looks like the real thing.

Upon checking the contents of my storage building in the back yard, discovered a small leak in the roof developed over top of a couple of cardboard boxes full of models I had stored there. I removed the models from the boxes and put them in sunlight to dry the dampness some had. This 1:48 scale kit of the Israeli F-16i Sufa was one that was damp. The decal sheets are my only concern from the leak. Beyond that, the only online review I read on this kit claimed it is a dog of first order, that it does not fit together correctly. Once I finish the MRAP, zI will start this kit next, If I find the bad reports are erroneous, I will start a build thread on it. If it’s truly dog poo, I’ll save it for the spare parts bin. -

Son and grandson screening in our porch today. Old cast iron columns are gone now. They were over 60 years old.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
