    Hi Sjors, Your last pics remind me of the pics of the space shuttle attached to a 747.... I think you do a fine job on planking since it is about the same as the spackling I used for the first layer when I did my Victory bow section . Cheers, Jim

    Roger, Glad to see you've started a log and I got here in time for a front row seat. It will be a bit like traveling down memory lane but with improvements! The Bob is a fun build and I'm real interested in seeing how you tackle it.     Sjors, My current build is the Sopwith Camel on the woodwork forum . I have the Confederacy and Marseille on the waiting list as well as a steam locomotive....but I am still watching the great builds here! Cheers, Jim

    Hi Craig, Not sure what anyone else would do but I just sort by dimension, assuming there will be enough. Have yet to experience a shortage even with some of my sloppy practices. I do take extra care with the odd 1 or so pieces that only are used for a single item or two; normally the bigger dimension stuff. My practice is to sort and separate by eye after establishing the dimension and then using a little tag to identify each group. Hope that helps! Cheers, Jim

    Hi Sjors, Looking Fine! I do have a question about the deadeyes......I thought their purpose was to maintain correct tension on the lines to keep all in balance. If that is the case, how often in real use would they have been perfectly aligned other than in port - when things could be adjusted to be ship shape? Just wondering.... Cheers, Jim

    Hi Jerry, I've been watching your log and thought it was about time to tell you what a great job you are doing. Not only is the ship looking fine but you are also quite creative with your jigs and fixtures. I particularly like the turntable you have as a part of your work platform; allowing you to swivel the vessel. That is now in my notes for use on my next ship model project! Cheers, Jim

    Augie, Have you ever tried hot melt for planking? I know that sounds goofy but it is what I used for my Victory bow section. They were shorter planks for the most part but if one can stand the heat(the glue does burn fingers for a sec.) it certainly holds ..... Thick CA is also in my array of adhesives.
