  1. Apparently they were only used when parked at Harbour, at a pinch they could steam with them but could only make about 3kts. The coal usage was prodigious at about 5 times the usual amount.
  2. Thanks OC. Last of the rigging, lines onto pulleys that pull out the booms from the hull and pull them back in, rigged to the capstan. Only a few hours to go now.
  3. There’s a very tasty MK1 design upgrade for it which is a lot more detailed than Infini Models. Keeping to my mantra of 3 per nation, as tempting as Yorktown is, Trumpeter have commissioned the box art for Langley in CV-1 from Randal Wilson (he does most of their box art, and displays his work on FB), which would mean it’s a kit I’d love to build asmy 3rd US ship. Graf Zeppelin would be my third German. I have no interest in Tirpitz etc as they’ve been done here already.
  4. Torpedo nets; matte black dark grey airbrushed down the parts where the lines will run, and the edges (it’s so dark you can’t see any details at all otherwise. dark grey light drybrush light grey drybrush dark rust streaks light rust streaks green slime along the base. Result? I just don’t know. No one had colour film back then. So, as I can’t upload any photos, I’m having the same issues as a lot of others; sideline question; USS Yorktown CV-10 1944 or DKM Graf Zepplin ?
  5. Each boom has 2 pulleys added (not included in the upgrade) and 1 on the hull. I’m thinking all up it would be a weeks work but I’ve taken to listening to podcasts or audio books which is a very good distraction. Once I’ve finishedd the booms I’ll add the nets, which I’ve primed but need to paint and weather before adding. When they’re on I’ll add more pulleys to pre placed rings on the hull (22 in total) and lines will be added then that should do it.
  6. Half of the torpedo net booms done. I added some light grey to the stays so you actually make them out.
  7. And just to spam you, a new (well I’ve never seen it) of Seydlitz and her sisters in 1916.
  8. A bit of fresh rust on the shelves. I have about 60 Turnbuckles to attach to the eyebolts above the booms which are for the stays.
  9. Bit more rust on the net shelf and started to rig the 30 torpedo booms. These lines will run up the hull on one end and to the bottom of the net.
  10. The torpedo net shelves come is 3 pieces each side. I painted them on the fret and used chipping fluid of reveal a red oxide undercoat. I want to do a fair bit more work on them now they’re on the hull. Very fragile and somewhat nerve wracking to place.
  11. I use CA pretty much exclusively. Sets solid in a few seconds, or you get the slow set stuff.
  12. The Infini upgrade includes propeller guards and solid bars which in real life are chains that can pull them up. Thus the 1/700 chain. Needs a touch up but I’ll do that after I put the torpedo net shelves on nd I can do another round of weathering. I’m thinking the deck is mostly done. You can just make out the name plate plate at the stern.
  13. Original photos of Seydlitz show coaling winches, which are produced by a Russian company (I think) but are very nice. The Modelkasten reel is 1/700 chain (it’s twisted rope but looks like chain.
  14. There’s this little black rectangle on the rear deck which is a brake for the cable that runs out the paravane or kite from a rear capstan.
