  1. Can you give us a little tutorial on your painting technique? Your Yamato was just inspired and your levels/layers of painting, filters and pigments would be a great benefit to all of us.
  2. It’s going to be a pain to do but now I’ve mentioned it I have to do it. Not much will get done this week due to work.
  3. That looks really good. My only weathering suggestions would be to use some pastels on the rear or flight deck
  4. This is from 1943 in the med (photo courtesy of the IWM), I’m going to have to figure out how to do a 3 tone barrel yet alone blistering it. I might await the next group build.
  5. I think she was in the Med in this period to support the invasion of Italy so pretty calm
  6. I have learnt a LOT from Mr K who is doing the big BB. He’s the expert on how to for big boats. There’s some really good videos on Utube for submarines weathering but we need to keep it in perspective that a ship of a few K men have to be kept busy. A 1/35 bit of large metal at 1/350 will look like a bit of spakle on a ship as opposed to lovely chipping on a tank.
  7. Of course we’re fun! It’s the dead of winter here, got up to 18 degrees Celsius today. It was -4 when I was at work last night.
  8. As tempted as I am to beat the hell out of her, being the King’s ship I just can’t imagine it being too bad. The pride of the RN would just not allow it. Ive started of the main superstructure but there is soo much small detail to add it should take a while.
  9. Vajello does not like me either, I just refuse to use it now. Unless your OCD is soo bad you just have to have exactly the correct colour near enough is good enough. There are so many shades of grey between Tamiya and Mr Colour and other colours they have nearly all you’ll ever need.
  10. Throw them all together on the rear boat deck, OK so far, and I’ll throw the boats on later but I quite like it so far. I scratch built some ventilation shafts in the middle which are on the plans but not the kit.
  11. OC has been putting me to shame with his build, and I’ve been pottering on small bits. I did up the Tamiya/Pontos high altitudes gun directors knowing they really are not that accurate until I found the North Star ones I knew I had to swap them. Not an easy build but amazing detail. You will not even. Price on the next post but I replaced the 44 inch search lights which unlike Tamiya and Pontos actually look like the real thing.
  12. I must concede, I’ve bought kits from Russia, HK, Japan and bits and pieces from all around the globe and never had a problem. I’m not even sure where my Vendetta came from. I lile buying direct from North Star as he is the manufacturer and his stuff is unique. There’s an Aussie called Randall Wilson who I follow on FB who painted nearly all the box art for 1/350 and 1/200 kits for Hobbyboss and Trumpy, if you look up his stuff he also scratch builds some magnificent warships. My my wife thinks I’m something of a nerd but there really are a lot of us worldwide.
  13. Ebay can be incredibly cheap, but I bought some stuff from Starling hobbies (UK) last weekend and it arrived in OZ on Wednesday, it’s all about shipping practices
  14. As I said, the Tamiya Prince of Wales Kit is what Pontos used as the base kit for their set. I got my Pontos upgrade from Korea (Hobbydecal) but I have no idea where you would get it in the UK
