  1. If you consider the hms surprise be sure to let me know i have been considering it for a long while and a tandom build would be fantastic
  2. Been having a look at your website extremely nice build and as I mentioned I'm not a fan of plastic only because I'd be rubbish at building with it but am fascinated with what you have done very nice job indeed, have you started your Phoenix or hms surprise yet ? would love to follow your work if and when you do kind regards steve
  3. So as promised here is what I have been up to on the bounty while awaiting final parts required and alongside my other little build the fast patrol launch I am adding as many lines as possible to the masts off ship this will speed things up dramatically however it feels very commercial and I was happier with my previous build just to add one line at a time on ship and keep everything tidy ,even tho it does mean a lot of tedious fidely work I am not going for super accuracy on the rigging ,more just as billings intended ,the ship is already inaccurate in many ways so I don't feel the need to spend three four five years rigging I hope to keep the whole build down to under one year . the last thing I need is the sails that came with the kit sewed up for me so I cut them all to size and took them to a seemstres I was quoted fifty pounds due to the work actually involved and I do understand that but was a bit shocked ,I have tried buying pre sewn sails in 1/50 but have been unsuccessfull my mother has volunteered to give the sails a go and they are currently at her house so will hopefully get to show you them in next couple of weeks. we will see how they turn out but I think I will use them regardless of how they turn out as it will be nice to have another family members touch involved in the build . I have given my mother the pictures on the box and asked if she can replicate that ,they are far from realistic but I do like a ship to have sails thanks for viewing steve
  4. Thanks Nigel they sure are some fine looking boats in tallships log I must admit on my previous build I found the boats particularly challenging ,as a beginner I assumed the little boats would surely be easier than the ship boy was I wrong,I have the boat kit in order from Cornwall showed in an earlier post but still haven't received my order from 24 days ago ,I have spoken with Cornwall and they think it may have been sent to wrong address and they have assured me a new order is on its way to me so fingers crossed it should arrive soon .i must add I have never had a problem with this company in the past and I am sure it's a genuine mistake Thanks ken I enjoy your log also it is very informative I also enjoy the lovely photos of real life ships and I particularly liked your post on the large scale rc planes that is something I am strongly considering getting into and would like to pick your brain sometime on uk suppliers and usefull forums brands of kit etc. with out my rigging blocks I am keeping busy pre fitting upper shourds and rat lines etc I will put some pics up and explain a bit more later on this evening
  5. First I seen your log turned out great I really like the sails ,if you post more often the processes you use and give a little to the forum you will get more responses in the comments I don't think it's a bias against plastic I'm not a fan of plastic myself but do enjoy seeing the process and I I'm in awe with the reselts that yourself and others can achieve steve
  6. Thanks Graham for the very detailed response I had not thought of Halfords and after checking they do I fact sell two different size packs one at £15 and one at £10 so I will pick one of these up for a practise ,I would imagine this as you say to be a messy procedure so I will be sure prep everything first and have a clean up plan at the ready and to practice on something else first .
  7. Thanks for the pic hexnut and as you mention so many of these are customised for the individual it's a no holds barred build pimp my yaught
  8. whats your advise guys on fibre glassing the hull I have zero experience with this and I am keen to learn what is required and approx cost and suppliers and after fibre glassing how do I finish it does it need laquer or something?
  9. Thanks Doug I know my plans look ambitious but I see real potential in this little kit watch this space
  10. Not the end of the world Doug glad your light hearted about it few brass rod pins as tenons and ca then splash of paint all will be fine
  11. Thanks guys for the interests and the likes running a google image search I came across this boat I reckon I could clone it would mean re doing that pretty deck again where it raises at the bow but hey that is no problem ignore the size and shape of windows on mine this will all be planked over and new apertures created and as don mentioned I would need to make the windscreen steeper angled if anyone has any pics you think this boat could be made in to throw them up there id be happy to see alternatives thanks steve
  12. I found with my aclilic paints it some times especially on the yellow takes up to 6 coats sometimes I cheat and use enamel paint especially if I need a fine edge line painted
  13. Looking superb Nigel ,I'm curious as to what stage constructo advises fitting the bulwarks? and if it is of any help I chose royal blue and yellow ocre its nice to see your moving along nicely with the ship happy building steve
  14. Wow don now that's input ,you have just described my dream build all your ideas are great and I'm writing them all down for future reference i particular like how you describe altering and moving the cabins thank you very much for your comment I'm gonna get to work sketching this out
  15. Never thought of lighting that's a great idea and plenty of room below to hide the components thanks
  16. thanks E J I never thought such an app would exist that's gonna be real handy This evenings activity saw deck planking on the starboard side and any worries over the symmetry being off vanished I really don't know where im going with this build so any suggestions or examples very welcome ,at this stage the wheel house is still removable so that might be rebuilt a different shape I might raise the deck around the bow slightly also covering or redoing the deck planking is not a problem so any ideas guys jump in there and don't be a stranger
  17. Hi mike I have a log on her it's called fast patrol launch i actually just started deck planking last night inspired from your own build
  18. Hey Eddie mate thanks for checking in ,question guys any idea on the scale I should be naming and basing this thing on heres some pics with my 1/50 scale tourists clearly wrong scale
  19. Thanks E J Hello all this evening I begun the first of many ideas to upgrade this little boat from the fifties step one the deck planking first thing was to create a border for the planking I traced the shape and made this on the drum sander I rip some mahogany and thickness plane to 5.5mm I can then run it threw my little proxon saw a 1mm it was important to me to keep a line parallel with the middle cabin which I did achieve my next concern is when I start the starboard side can I keep them symmetrical for any of you that follow my other build the bounty im still awaiting parts from cornwall and I hope they arrive soon before this little boat steals my attention completely as im finding myself really beginning to enjoy this build thanks for viewing steve
  20. Hello all With all the pieces that came along with this kit assembled the kit could be made watertight the rc componets fitted splash of paint and go have some fun however I plan on using it as a blank canvass for a display piece and the cool thing is if I mess it up I could quite easily knock up another blank canvass in a weekend I see mahogany decks inlayed with pine strip decks real glass perhaps another level on top with wheel and controls a dive board on the stern glazed doors ladders/staircases seating areas brass handrails the list is limitless thanks for viewing and again any and all imput welcome thanks steve
  21. Here is a tour guide video I found on utube dated April 2017 that looks extremely helpful to all the victory builders out there
  22. Done a bit of research on this kit turns out it's actually from the fifties wow 60 + years old I am honoured to bring it back to life it could easily have remained unbuilt until it was simply not usable ,apart from the roof space odour it seems fine ,I found a company that remakes these vintage kits with same plans but with laser cut parts that's where I obtained the date of original www.vintagemodelboats.com turns out out I could have bought a modern version for not much more than the price I payed for the original but hey it's pretty cool to bring such an old kit back to life . i now have the majority of the boat build it's a pretty straight forward system to build three bulkheads a transom and a breasthook some planks and plywood skins I will post some photos tomorrow after filling and sanding I have taken copies of all the pieces before building as there is so little pieces and so little time to get a blank canvass of a hull I'm looking forward to the multiple different ways this build could go I definitely would like to try out epoxy and that's why I'm convinced at the minute to convert it to a yaught thanks for viewing and any suggestions are more than welcome steve
  23. Buetifull build mike I've just started a very old kit from a company called keilkraft ,it's rc kit of a fast patrol boat but I'm turning it into a luxury yaght and will follow your build with interest for ideas thanks steve
