Ondras71 got a reaction from CaptainSteve in HMS President by Ondras71 - FINISHED - Sergal - modified
This is an inexpensive kit, but I believe that a nice model can be made of it. I like to draw inspiration from other forums as well.
Next in line were the cannons.
Again, I rjected those in the kit and created new ones, cannon barrels Amati, carriages
made of walnut wood.
The ironwork is partially brass and paper.

Chain-plates placed on the hull Blocks placed under the sheet bitts The blocks, eyelets, clamp deadeyes and the belaying included in the kit were poorly made, I've purchased new ones from a Czech manufacturer "Radekshipmodels.cz" According to the monograph of Endeavour I've made the last solid deck equipment - the pumps

Thank you very much! The deckeck equipment in the ships plan is also fabricated, I haven't seen it on any other ship. I began to arrange the deck according to the monograph of Royal Caroline. I made new sheet bitts and a new ships bell .. The flag in the kit was not in scale and it was from the bad time period after 1805. An acquaintance of mine has created a new set of flags for the year 1760, so far the back flag is made and placed on the flag pole. -

I've redone the too thick rudder fittings and finished another hinge, they were too few.
I created a new rudder of wood. The one in the kit was too thick.
I started creating stern decorations made of baked clay, I tried to copy the metal cast decorations.
Stern decorated
Model placed on a stand. I placed a temporary board under it to prevent hull damage during handling. And I've attached the rudder.
Rudder done.

Ondras71 reacted to Tigersteve in 18th Century Longboat by Tigersteve - FINISHED - Model Shipways
All rope was cut to length according to the rigging plan. Coils for the backstays were created first. After these were in position and adjusted with watered down white glue and a paintbrush, I placed the stropped blocks.
A light colored rope coil was created for the flag. This was placed starboard, forward of the deadeyes. I created the rope coil for the peak halyard and placed it on the aft belay pin on the port side.
The staysail halyard was next. Its rope coil, originally intended for the adjacent belay pin, settled itself on a starboard pair of oarlocks. One of the smaller blocks that I stropped with a hook was placed at the bow.
I included a photo of the paintbrush I've been using to form most of the coils. It's tapered so it can be used for creating different size coils. I have no idea how this brush actually paints, but it's great for this purpose! The most challenging part of this process is getting the coils to hang naturally. I hope that my results are acceptable. Much more to do before completion.

The main topsail yard is now on. The method of constructing the parral (pat. pending) works quite well. This is how things look at the moment.
Here is the parral for the main topsail...
and how things look overall ...
I've been doing a bit of tidying up - finally making off some of the lines draped around the deck. Doing rope coils often awkward and shown below is about the only way I could think of in this instance to coil the thread. Well at least it's tidy.

Thanks so much to all who have followed this build and have provided their generous comments, encouragement and "likes" throughout and at it's conclusion. I greatly appreciate the support and the friendship.
B.E. and Erik: I am attaching a few more photos, but I'm not sure that they're any better. My point and shoot either can't or won't do any better on the overall shots.

Good morning all, Thanks to all those who have stopped by, left likes and/or comments.
Just a small update. Some progress such as nailing the main rail(with .4 nylon fishing line) was a bit of a waste of time. I was so happy with the results on the companion way I thought I would do more of it not realising it would be lost in the dark grain of the walnut. Although it may look like what a house fly may have left behind the nails can be seen(if you really look close) on some of the close ups. Breast hooks, knightheads and the aft rail were also completed, I replaced the kit supplied walnut with rosewood for these. Another detail that is hard to notice is the rope used to tie the hatch lids together. I finally put my Syren serving machine together and decided to serve some line for the first time and give it a try. The line served is just normal sewing thread and I used the same thread for the serving, the final rope measures approximately .5 mm and again you have to look real close.
An eye was seized in one end of rope then the other end pulled through and tied off with a couple of half hitches
Take Care and Thanks for stopping in.

Ships Boats Update
Mid Deck Mounting
The AoTS indicated 3 boat chocks each for the 2 lower boats to be strapped down onto. Each consists of laminating 0.6mm ply either side of balsa.
Chocks painted and in place for boats.
2 largest boats just fit in between the Gallow Frames.
Reserve Spares
I had enough dowel to make 7 Spare Spars:
- Fore Top Mast
- Main Top Mast
- Mizzen Top Mast
- 2 x Fore Top Gallant Mast
- 2 x Main Top Gallant Mast
The reserve spars arranged(trial fit) on the gallows top beams.
Next > onto the tie down lashings.

I have been making the stunsail booms, plus I added a few more items in preparation for the rigging. The bowsprit traveller, the iron horse, and some cleats. I fitted the belaying pins to the bow, I used brass ones that are blackened because the are a better more realistic size and I reckon the look just like dark wood once blackened.

The shipyard has been busy plugging the deck planks.
Below are a few snaps of the finished layout and plugs. I am fairly pleased with the finish, not consistent, but looks worn after a time at seas maybe. The effect, ? I'll stick with it.
Onto the gunwales next.

I've been busy with a (partial) bathroom remodel but have managed some work now and then on the model. The head is now complete. As mentioned above, it is based as best I could find off the Chapelle Epervier drawings.

Ondras71 reacted to Gahm in US Brig Syren by Gahm - Model Shipways
I finished all breech lines and started with the gun tackles. For these I am using the 0.008’’ line from Chuck’s Syren company, served with a 100wt beige silk thread (image 1a), and the Syren 2mm single sheave boxwood rigging blocks. I opened up the holes in the blocks a little (77 drill), sanded the corners slightly with a fine sand paper and mounted each block on a wire loop to facilitate the handling of these tiny objects (image 1b). For hooks I went with the photoetched 3mm hooks from Dafi (http://www.dafinismus.de/plates_en.html#anker7). All parts needed for a hook-block assembly are shown in image 2c. Images 2 and 3 present the assembly sequence for a tackle and image 4 shows the finished result. For rope coils I used a variation of an idea from Richard (kscadman). Image 5 shows my jig which allows making rope coils right beside the gun. It also allows varying size and shape of these coils. I want to avoid for these coils to look all identical and ‘too perfect’. The first completely rigged carronade is shown in images 6 – 8. I still have to see whether I stick with this process for the remaining 17 guns . . .

Finished guns with hoists ..
I decided to provide the model with sails, so I ordered the ones Sergal offers as a complement to the model ..
The quality of the sails, however, is comparable to the quality of the model, it is poor ....
I measured the sails according to the plan, modified them a little for greater historical authenticity. I had them dome by Radelshipmodels ....
The quality is much better ...
I also decided to replace lime logs from the kit with Ramin, it has a better color of the wood.
bowsprit made of Ramin ...

I decided to equip the ship with a compass cabinet, as a ship on long voyages it surely must've had one. Created according to the monograph of Bounty.
Further I've created the steering wheel rack..
According to the Sergal sails I created new sails and adjusted the height of the masts accordingly, the masts in the kit were too tall. Further work on the masts is already in accordance with the monograph of Royal Caroline ..
Further created the topmasts and the foundations of the tops ..
