  1. Good morning Patrick, Everything looks great! If Augie does not does get your rigged yards and booms, I'm next in line. They will look good when I transplant your stern to my build
  2. I have a question I would appreciate some feedback on. I working on my waterways (three pieces on each side) and the instructions say glue all three parts together at the scarf joints then trim to fit. Would it be easier to trim and fit one piece at a time prior to gluing them together. It looks that way to me, including gluing down each piece separately. I hesitate to proceed with this approach without some input from my experienced friends on MSW. I also plan on painting the waterway before gluing it in place.
  3. Count me in also on the wood anchor stocks. The wood adds the detail that gives lookers the OMG look on their face as they see your ship for the first time.
  4. Hi Robert, She's looking good. I also like to jump around a bit if I'm getting tried of repetitive work. Do you solder the small parts with an iron or small torch?
  5. Time has been scarce for working on the Niagara, but I've made a little progress. I still need to sand the rough areas and I'm not happy with the aft gun ports but I'm hoping some sanding here and there will clean it up. Please let me know if you see any "what the..." Your advice and opinions are always welcome.
  6. Hi Ben, Your Longboat looks great! I have the kit and can hardly wait to start working on it, but it will be after I complete my current build. Can you tell me what media you printed your friezes on what you thought about the results. The photos show excellent results. I've seen advertisments for inkljet friendly decal material but I've never tried it before.
  7. Thanks Adam, your input is very helpful. In respect to Tim's question on sealer and primer, what do you suggest? On my first and only build, I only used primer on metal and the resin hull. Should I prime all bare wood? I used wood sealer on a few parts where I wanted the pores filled to get a very smooth surface. Is this the right application for sealer??
  8. Augie, She looks very impressive. Before you know it, you'll be starting your next build.
  9. Count me in on being interested in a education for this subject. I used Testors and Model Master enamel for my first build. I disliked having to use solvents to clean up so I'm trying water based acrylics for my current build.
  10. The past few days have been primarily, rework on the stern. The stern filler blocks now match the profile of the horn timbers better than before. I appreciate the help, encouragement and photos from my fellow Niagara builders in getting me through this area of the build. Several times I've also continued playing an interesting game called “break off a horn timber and glue it back on”. I can hardly wait to get them covered with planks so they are protected. Next is to do a little more sanding around the filler blocks, finish up the stern framing and move on to the waterway. Like always, comments, suggestions or "watch out for that tree" warnings are appreciated. Now the real test is how many of you remember George of the jungle cartoons?
  11. Hi Ron, I seen your note regarding files on an old hard drive. Have you considered using a USB docking station to retrieve the files? In case you have not seen one, they simply plug into you USB port and allow you to plug in internal hard drives, outside of your case, kind of like a toaster. Here is a link for one http://www.amazon.com/Thermaltake-BlacX-eSATA-Docking-Station/dp/B001A4HAFS Just make sure you ck the specs to make sure it works with your PC and the HD you are pulling data from. The cost is very reasonable and they allow you to use old hard drives as an external storage or very simple back up device. I hope this helps... In respect to your build, it looks impressive.
  12. Welcome aboard Robert. I'll add your build the the growing list I'm following. Your build is looking great!
  13. David, it's good to see you back up on MSW. Thank you for the offer to help, Your stern photos are exactly what I need to determine where I need to make corrections.
  14. Thank you Patrick. I appreciate your help. The photos below show where I believe I have issues and need to add or remove material. I was very hesitant to make any adjustments without advice.
  15. The US Brig Niagara is my second build. Just the possibility of completing a build of this level is due to the sharing of experience and advice from the many talented people on MSW!
  16. Good morning Augie and Patrick, Yes, she was big compared to many of the tugs today. Thanks for looking in on my build log. It's great to have MSW back up and running again.
  17. Hi Patrick, It's good to see your photos back. Hopefully the other Niagara builders will also repost theirs. Do you happen to have any photos of how you assembled the stern? I"m struggling a bit and the photos realy help. I just completed posting the Washburn tug and need to do the same for my Niagara (hopefully tomorrow). Take care.
