To druxey: I'm almost ashamed to say this, but the elliptical frame is made with a CNC milling machine.
To Dowmer: Hinges are made of a brass tube 1.0 / 0.2 (ie. the inner diameter is 0.6 mm). A groove with a length of approx. 0.6 mm is milled into this tube with a 0.5 mm milling cutter, the tube is then cut to a length of approx. 1.2 mm. The 0.5 mm brass nail (0.5 mm brass wire can also be used) is bent at a right angle and the nail is inserted into the tube so that it fits into the notch. This assembly is soldered with silver solder.

Thanks for the likes and nice comments.
Upper deck framing is now completed.
Next steps will be the waterways, port stops, bulwark planking up to the next deck clamps and then the stern framing.
I also have to start thinking/designing how much of the upper deck will be planked and how much I will leave open so the framing and lower deck can be seen.

Tomorrow will usher in China’s traditional festival: the Spring Festival. In a few days, the Beijing Winter Olympics will also be opening. I will stop working and take about a week off to spend this wonderful holiday with my wife. I also wish friends all over the world a happy New Year! I will continue to update until it is complete.

herask reacted to druxey in Speedwell 752 by Greg Herbert - 1:48 scale - the saga continues
Finally, after a wait of almost three years, Greg Herbert was able to travel this weekend and retrieve Speedwell from David Antscherl's workshop. The model had been marooned in Canada due to covid after having the carved works made and fitted. Speedwell (she was temporarily re-christened Speednaught) is now heading back to Maryland with her rightful owner for rigging. The saga will continue soon....
Photos of the reunion are attached.

herask reacted to dvm27 in Speedwell 1752 by dvm27 (Greg Herbert) - FINISHED - Ketch Rigged Sloop
It's been almost a year since my last update. The reason is that Speedwell has been landlocked in Canada since last November. My very talented collaborator David Antscherl had made and applied all the carvings and I was going to pick her up to rig her just when Covid struck and the border was closed. I have all the blocks, ropes, masts and spars ready but no model. I'm hoping to get her this summer but who knows at this point. At any rate here are some photos of her sporting her wonderful carvings.

If you don't screw up at least one of those mortises over the course of framing the hull...I'm going to hate you. Getting a fair line was the most challenging part of the build for me.

photo 1 few words about Ebonizing which can be good ... or bad
photo 2 a letter from Boudriot explaining which lines are tarred and which ones are not. The line for the steering wheel is not tarred and few others.

herask reacted to JOUFF in La Renommée by JOUFF - 1/48 - French Frigate - by Patrick JOUFFRIN
Hello Gentlemen !
Continuation of the work with the manufacture of a small tool that will make my job easier for what is to come ...
The photos speak for themselves :
I had to help this tool with pliers : the nails tended to escape ! But it works and will help me.
See you another time ...

Hello Gentlemen,
Thank you for your feedback.
The Leds ramp is now definitely in place :
The false deck is glued.
Here is a lighting test. The brightness satisfies me : the goal is not to let it light up permanently but to be able to show the inside of the hold on occasion ...
So let there be light :
So much for this day. I enjoyed myself ...

herask got a reaction from Ondras71 in Walking onboard a 3D model of Titanic
I'm sure some of you are aware of this, but since I couldn't find earlier topic on MSW i figured I'll drop this marvelous gem here. basically you can take a virtual tour onboard Titanic. it is beautifully modeled and there's a real feel of being present on the actual ship. those of you who haven't already be sure to check it out.
I'm dropping a few screens and a video of the experience, and a link for download. it's free... ;))

herask reacted to harlequin in HMS Bellona by harlequin - FINISHED - Corel
I just use the "rack of the eye" when doing the rats, I don't have a gauge that I keep too or a measure behind the shrouds....just clove hitch and go...starboard side completed....Victory and Greyhound look on in the back ground.
