  1. Funny this should pop up today. I was just "talking" to another member about her!
  2. Jack I'm pretty sure you already know but The Sullivans is also a Fletcher class, so building one would be almost the same as building the other. I could be wrong but I think the only real difference in in the bridges.
  3. I wish I could say that the Phoenix/95 mm boat are a great build but unfortunately mine are still in the box on the shelf! So I have no idea what they will build like. As you probably already know they look like superb kits. Not long after I bought the Phoenix I became interested in the Providence and that has occupied me ever since. I can say though that you probably want to go with the deluxe kit as it has the boat included and it used to have the upgraded blocks and stuff. It will be nice to see your build as so far i don't think anyone has completed a Phoenix outside of Russia! If you want to spend a bunch more money there are a couple of after market laser carvings and sails as well. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=brigantine+phoenix&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=0&_osacat=0&_odkw=master+korabel+phoenix+transom&LH_TitleDesc=0
  4. Nice fit Jim. Looks like it was always meant to be there. No indication at all that they are slightly different scales. Glad it worked for you. Sure made a quick build of the kit though!
  5. Came out pretty nice Carl. Now all we need is Denis's version and someone to Photo crop them all together in one picture.
  6. OC Between the photos and plans you should be able to do some pretty impressive things. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.
  7. I think the Lewis was pretty common on a lot of smaller RN vessels all the way through the end of the war. The Vickers was belt fed and in naval use, (.50 cal) looked quite differn't.
  8. I may be looking at the wrong thing but the small gun I see on the port wing looks more like a single Lewis gun. Oh now I think I see what you are talking about. Twin guns but still look like Lewis guns to me. Nice work on the rails Carl
  9. Could have fooled me with your last build. It reminded me that I am just a mere mortal. I still need to set a date to get over your way and see it in person.
  10. Thanks for putting this up Jim I am very much looking forward to what a master can do with this kit and see what my chances might be as I have the 95 mm boat in my Phoenix kit!
  11. AH.... Another hobby I was cured from at an early age! I always wanted to build the super fast predator of the skyies rather than the Piper Cub I should have been building and weeks of building ALWAYS ended up in seconds of re-kitting!
  12. That's just it. I'm not stretching it, in fact I had never heard of it before. What size did you use on this build? They show three sizes on their website.
  13. Hi Piet You might consider only doing a couple or doing more in one than another. As Jud says the flash part of the smoke plume is only for a fraction of a second and all of the guns would not be firing right at the same second.
  14. Sorry I thought "Rig That Thing" was the tool you were using. Thanks for straightening me out.
  15. Very nice looking rigging Carl If you don't mind, what kind of line did you use for the rigging. It looks very scale and doesn't over power the ship.
  16. I wouldn't stand a chance at keeping up with your quality and no one can match your speed! Besides, (I'll tell you a secret if you keep it to yourself) I went ahead and bought the Indianapolis and have located the brass and fighting tops I will need to build it as the Houston! Hiding it from the Admiral because she REALLY wants the Titanic as a night light!
  17. That's what I was afraid of! The reason I asked was because I still have the Titanic looking at me to do for the wife. I have always done drilling and sawing on plastic by hand as well for the same reason. Thanks
  18. Greg Do you hand drill the plastic or use a power drill like a Dremel or something?
  19. No distractions just waiting quietly overhead for the next results from the use of the "Rig that thing" I was also going to give some deserved at-a-boys but I was in silence mode!
  20. The last person of a nautical nature I got to sit down and talk to one on one was a WWII U-boat captain. He had started out the war as a sub,(meaning lower class) officer and spent the following patrols working his way up to first mate. He then went to Command officer's school and when he returned was given command of a new sub. He was only able to make one patrol before the war was over and only sank one ship. He said he pretty much spent the rest of the patrol just trying to stay alive. He of course was able to get back to France and the war was over before he could be deployed again. That meeting was over twenty years ago and even though he was surprisingly well preserved at the time I am pretty sure he is dead by now. For some reason I can remember his face and voice, (He also spoke very good English) but his name escapes me, something I thought would never happen as I was so impressed at getting to meet and talk to him at the time!
