    Hi Keith While I was aware of that, it didn't seem to quite fit into the intended joke for some reason. Maybe it is just me. In fact the truth of the matter is that Some of my ancestors came from Scotland in the late 1800s (Crook clan) and according to Ancestry.com I am 46% Scotland, and 28% England & Northwestern Europe. That makes me more Northwestern European than my wife who's maiden name is of fairly recent English decent.

    I do all right as well even though I am retired but old habits die hard and you can be certain that $500 would stop me from blinking as well if there was a less expensive option. Must be all that Scotch in my heritage............ Or is that Scotch 🥃 in my blood? I didn't think of the one way part Mark.

    Nice start Dan. While I knew that the Mayaguez was a container ship, I had no idea she was a converted C-2 or of the extent of that conversion. Looking forward to the rest.

    90kgs? That is almost like carrying an extra body to the lake and back! My back aches just thinking about it!

    There is no question that you have an abundance of research material Greg. It looks like all the director, command, communications, and senior living accommodations were located in the forward "Tower". I wonder if it was armored as well?

    I think you may have that right. As far as I know it will be a one-of-a-kind, in any scale!

    I guess it doesn't matter how badly the box was bent up in shipping now. I think you may have voided the warranty at this point. No turning back!

    Glad you were able to locate the proper helicopter NS. Might it be better to use normal scratch building materials like wire and plastic added to the printed fuselage to maintain better scale fidelity?

    The link to Micro Master was for the 20mm guns they have. Depending on the time period the NJ carried about 6 trillion of them along with about 3 trillion 40s. Making all of those guns can be a drag to say the least. Model Monkey on Shapeways has a wider range of US stuff, even though I do not think they have 20s or 40s. Hopefully the cost of the upgrades does not exceed the savings in getting the model in the first place. If so then I apologize, it was not my intent to cost you a lot in this kit.

    Are you intending to create the lines and hoses around the compressor and engine body, or just use wire etc?

    At over 30" long it had better be a chest style freezer!

    That is quite an impressive achievement and as the entire process was documented there should be no claims that since it was 3D printed that somehow it was easier than "scratch building" using traditional modeling methods. I have no doubt that this is far and away beyond anything I could or ever will be personally able to master let alone as a "First" 3D design/build.

    Just in time Denis My wife just got back from a trip with a girlfriend and gave me my supply of peanut brittle! So up to the rafters I go with brittle and hammock and I will be certain to be looking in. I can't remember, did the kit still include the instructions? Along with the Washington and Hood I always liked the lines of the Iowa class ships. Of course everyone has to be impressed with their abilities and achievements. But I do not have the patience to build one with all the repetitive guns and stuff! That was why I though it would be the perfect torture device to send to you. To be honest your picture of the paints rather shocked me. If it was not for the containers I would have forgotten how many I sent. I do remember the containers! I have no memory of how we managed that! One thing that you need to remember though is that what you are showing is just the enamel paints! I kept just as much of the acrylic paints he had. It took me two days to empty out my car and get it put away after I got home! I do know that finishing a model that was started by someone else is always harder than starting from scratch and I am pretty certain that this will not be an exception. I never did learn the name of the original guy, just that his stash was being sold off by his brother-in-law. He had already gotten rid of some pretty nice stuff before I discovered him. Probably a good thing as I would possibly gone broke dragging home a bunch of stuff that I really had no need, or room for and spent MUCH more than I did. Speaking of going broke............ Micro Master in NZ has some beautiful upgrades for this ship! 😵 https://micromaster.co.nz/ Looking forward to seeing what you do with her Denis.

    If the magazine had not blown then it is probable that the Roma would have also survived the second hit as well.

    The Roma, along with the rest of the Italian navy seldom went anywhere, mostly because of lack of fuel.

    It appears that there is very little crew accommodation on this design of ship, with almost all being located just forward and aft of the funnel on the Poop deck. Forward of the funnel on the boat deck appears to be the pilot house followed by possibly the chart room/Capitan's day cabin, (Or only cabin) Below that on the poop deck appears to be the Saloon and crew accommodations, possibly the galley as well. Aft of the funnel appears to be the engineer accommodations with a skylight just aft of the stack and a small hospital aft of that, on the boat deck. The small stern structure with the 3" gun mount appears to be the emergency steering room and the space one deck down, accommodations for the gunners with a washroom at the very stern. There also seems to be some accommodations forward for more gunners below the forward gun but detail there is not clear at all. Everything else seems to be either coal, cargo, or engineering. Not completely certain as the print is quite poor but almost everything needed to run a ship would be available in that layout. In the movie weren't there at least a few "passengers" living in sections of the cargo hold?

    Like many allied designs prior to WWII the M-3/4 was just not as well developed or nearly as advanced as their German counterparts. In some ways you could compare them to the P-40s and F-4Fs going up against the Japanese. Not nearly as advanced but when used within their abilities and strengths did an amazing job of accounting for themselves. On the other hand there were some that claimed that the M-3 was superior to the Panzer IV. I am not a tank guy so I couldn't say.

    Looking good Craig So strange, at least to me, to see that huge aircraft radial engine inside a tank. I know it was done and worked but it still looks odd.

    True, plus I would have to assume that just like here in the US taxes get to you no matter what your mortgage is! I have no mortgage on my house but taxes and insurance still add up each year. If you try the camera thing again you might want to place it at the front of the mid superstructure so it looks like you are standing in the pilothouse. FPV has been on my bucket list for some time.

    It looks to me like you are building 85-90% of the ship using your own research and design. I personally would call that a scratch build in the RC world where almost everyone uses fiberglass hulls at the very least for builds such as this. As for your choice in the mix of aircraft, consider it a museum ship. Almost all museum ships in existence have combinations of features or equipment that span considerable time periods. It looks like you are taking considerable effort to make the ship itself as accurate as information allows.

    Looks like she is a very stable running boat with plenty of ability to be ballasted even more. Looks like you may have also taken some footage from the forecastle. I am not normally a sound kind of guy for my ships but your sound is just right and does add to the running of the ship. And of course I will always be envious of the fantastic lake you live on!

    I had no idea that the entire book was available in digital form for free. That means that you can just print out the pages you need and enlarge them to the size you want. Now all you need to do is decide if you want a 3 island Farris style design or a single aft Dougherty style steamer. You now have all you need for either. Thanks for the links I will add them to my stuff as well.
