lmagna reacted to Landlubber Mike in Citroen 2CV by Landlubber Mike - FINISHED - Airfix and Tamiya - 1/24 - PLASTIC
The one tricky thing with this build was that these cars have been around relatively unchanged for decades. When I pulled up pictures online, the colors of various parts were all over the place, as I'm sure owners replaced parts, customized parts, etc. For example, the surrounds on the small orange lights. In many cases they were black, but occasionally I came across them in silver. So, I just went with silver as more of a brighter contrast against the blue body.
In any event, this was a fun little build. I kinda like building the more quirky subjects, and this is certainly one. They may not be as impressive as a McLaren, but I would offer that they are equally a big part of automotive history due to a design that has largely remained unchanged for decades, its customer fan base, etc.

John,
Do you have the complete instructions for this? I ask because I too have built this Orrery and had no difficulty with getting things to go together correctly. If you do not have them, I can send you a PDF copy of them.

Are you certain Mike? Sanity may be a little like beauty, it's all in the eyes of the beholder.
All kidding aside, this really came out nicely and it is truly one to be proud of. Looking forward the the next in the series.

Evening all - Abit more progress with pics "Yeah"
So - I had hand painted ontop of the rattle can finish and it took fine just had a few brush marks, so this afternoon I attacked some of the areas on both the turret and the hull with a cloth and basically buffed the surface, this smoothed out some of the brush marks - but yep created a slightly shiny surface (no issue there as the whole tank will be Flat Rattle can top coated last).
I also fitted the main commanders site and painted it along with the inside of the hatch covers and did a few details.
Next will be to work on the tracks (seperate links and guides) so they can be painted/weathered then fitted - then the side armour skirts can go on.
Here are a couple of pics including letting commander "manny" mannering in on one of the pics - he likes the lime light.
OC.

lmagna reacted to Lt. Biggles in HMS Warspite by Lt. Biggles - FINISHED - Academy - 1/350 - PLASTIC - MK1 detail up set
It’s a good question unfortunately well above my knowledge base to answer. But the armour surly isn’t just one long piece so must be joins along the whole armour strip? I’m interested to know though! Will that be your next build? 700 scale again?

Not sure. My Shimakaze hull has the horizontal plating lines already built into the hull so I don't think I need to do the tape technique. I was wondering about the horizontal plate lines though, as in whether I had to etch them into the hull.

Hey mate, I haven’t done anything about vertical panel lines or armour plates, might shade some in later but unsure. From pictures they are almost not visible so at this scale not sure if it would work? Some ships they are a really prominent feature but Warspite seems to hide hers quite well.
what are your thoughts on it?

Looks fantastic! Can I ask, when doing this technique to mark the plate runs, do you also mark the vertical edges of the plates?

Thanks, it’s always a bit of a gamble if you should do one more coat or should have done one less!
I’ve been riding the enthusiasm train with this build so making pretty good progress each day, I’ve a feeling eventually there will be a time where it doesn’t get touched for a few days but for now I’m pretty happy!
antifouling paint is on today, will grubby it up later on in the build once the hull is painted.
Armour plates are visible so wasn’t a waste of tape haha!

Welcome to MSW, Effie. Nivana is right... we'd need more info to help you out.

lmagna reacted to Nirvana in Ideas on RC models
Hi Effie and welcome to MSW.
Some questions:
Sailing or motorized version?
If sailing, do you want to compete?
If so, see amya.org.
You will also find a lot of useful links even if to compete.
If motorized, is it just for fun or do you want to build scale model with details?
Krick is one well known manufacturer.
I would suggest you write down the criteria you want with your RC.
Use internet and do some research, you will be amazed how much there's to choose from.
Many of us are into RC and you will find a lot of help once established your direction of type.
Don't get me wrong but your original question is like going to a car dealer and saying I like to buy a car.

will you show us a few pics of the other hulls, in process? Just curious.

Thanks Gents, that's very kind of you to say! I really should provide an update - I've been sanding the hull and making the turrets, but I have 3 hulls in addition to the Charles Martel that I'm sanding and it's been kind of cold out in the garage so I've slowed down a bit. maybe In another week or two I'll post that update.
