Hi guys, I thought everyone would enjoy seeing this sign. Says a lot of how people have always percieved sailors. I remember in Norfolk back in the 60's there were signs in peoples yards saying "Sailors and Dogs Keep off the Grass".

Larry, here's a couple of pictures showing the cannonball racks. Some of the models at the museum showed them around some of the hatches also. I'll post what I can while I have internet with the balance to follow. Lot's of reloaders here.....me too, since I was 16. I had (prior to divorce), most every caliber from .17HMR to 50 BMG.

No, Dave, I think I might be getting a little old to crawl up on a yardarm to hoist sails, so I'm just going to build the model. I would love to do the month thing on board. It costs $1,500 for 2 weeks, then $300 per week afterwards with permission from the Captain to do the training cruises. What fun. Would have been nice to do.

Hi Popeye, yes, all you say is correct! I will be posting pictures as i go. Glad you enjoyed them. This trip might just be research instead of building. I have chosen my next project after the Morgan.....it will be the Niagra, if I have room for it. I'll keep everyone posted on my ventures.Next stop will be Lake George, New York.

For anyone interested in the Niagra, I found their website very interesting, and this program is available. I wish I would be here for this as I would do it in a minute. It's a training ship teaching sailing in the 19th century. Here's the link for anyone interested: http://www.flagshipniagara.org/files/sail-training/details-for-2013.pdf What an experience.

Well, tonight I am in Erie, Pennsylvania, and found out that the Niagra is ported here. I went down to tour and photograph her and found out she's not here. Will be back here in September 5th for a big Battle of Lake Erie circa 1812-13 show, unfortunately I won't be here then, I'll be in Augusta, Maine. I wanted to photograph her for you guys building the Niagra, but won't be able to. Sorry guys for all of us. This ship yard currently is on strike, with not enough hours to work on my Morgan.

Hi Augie, just time for a quick note.....there is a Confederacy for sale on ebay by modelexpo it currently is $1.29. Here is the link, you might follow and maybe try to buy it if yoyu are interested. You can usually buy these a lot cheaper than retail. More on my travels later....so far the shipyard is closed. http://www.ebay.com/itm/MODEL-SHIPWAYS-US-FRIGATE-CONFERERACY-POB-WOOD-SHIP-KIT-MIB-MS2262-JG-/350855403960?pt=Model_Kit_US&hash=item might be worth a try John

Ok guys, the trip has begun. I am now in Hot Springs, Ark., for a few days to see an old Navy buddy. Known each other since the 5th grade. Then on to Indianappolis to see another Navy buddy that I was on the JFK with and then to Maine and down to Boston to see the Constitution, south to Mystic, Connecticut to see the Morgan and eventually south to Florida. Back in Houston in Jan or Feb. I brought the Morgan with me, but might not be working on it much, so it might be awhile before you see some progress.

Thanks Popeye, if I hadn't been advised to use it on my Model Expo Sopwith Camel, I wouldn't have known the green was good for metal and wood. I didn't want to use CA on the whole model, and the tube worked out well. The green worked very well and I have no complaints about it. It did a good job for me, and the copper is "stuck" well to the wood with no lift so far. I'm happy, and this was just a fluke that I tried it with the copper tape. Good stuff I guess.....

Thanks Ed, I hope the info helps you or anyone else having problems. It worked quite well for me, and I have not had any lifting of the tape corners at all.

Thanks Wayne, we're headed to the little town of Poyen, Arkansas to visit an old friend and roommate. Then on to Indianapolis to see an old Navy buddy and family, then to Columbus for family, and then to Lake George, NY, and on to Bar Harbor Me. Then down south to Mystic, Connecticut to see the Morgan, Annapolis, Boston and eventually down to Florida to see another old Navy buddy, home sometime in February. Oh yeah, and Disney World! Have a good trip we should be leaving either Wed or Thurs.

Thanks Wayne, I'm actually just leaving to go and pick up the RV, so it looks like Wed or Thur for sure now. I'll be working it on the road, but not to the extent that I have been. I hope to be ready to start the rigging once I get back.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
