Thanks BE, good to see you aboard.  Hope all is well on the other side of the pond.  Thanks for your comments and kind words.  Yep, another project knocked off the Bucket List.

Hi guys, I just wanted to post an update for any one who might be interested.
Even though I am still working on downsizing and liquidating my collectibles, which as of 9-8-2016 are still available, I still have the urge to build something. I have had the kit for the New Bedford Whaleboat by Model Shipways for a while now,  and I have decided to go ahead and build it too.  I have started another Build Log page on my website to document it's construction.  I probably should have done this prior to building the whaleboats for the Morgan so I would have had a better understanding and appreciation for what these little boats meant to a whaler.  I wasn't sure I was going to even attempt building this especially after making 7 boats for the Morgan and when finished with them I was burned out with the duplication.  The model can also travel with me and I can build it in my 5th Wheel much easier than a full size scale ship model.  To go to the log use the link below and  maneuver around to the page:  "Build Log -A- My Whaleboat".  I'm doing this build on my website to complement it and not wanting to duplicate it here as there are already several great build logs.  Anyone wishing to follow my whaleboat build please use the below link.

Hope all is well with everyone,
    John

I've added an engraved nameplate to finish things off. I represent the engraver, so anyone with custom needs let me know.

The completion of your wonderful Morgan seems to have slipped below my radar John, what a fine project she has been, and such an inventive display.

    Congratulations, and very well done

Well, my belt sander came in Friday and I've completed the base, mounted the ship to it, and I have a 3/16" scale Sperm Whale that I sculpted to go alongside the ship along with a fully fitted out whaleboat complete with sails. the whale has been harpooned and lanced and tied alongside. I am now officially finished. The base is a slab of wood cut from the Bowsprit of the real Morgan, obtained from the Dupont Preservation Shipyard, Mystic Seaport, Mystic, CT., rough finished and Satin Varnished to protect it.

    I'M DONE!

Anyone interested on the steps to accomplish this can find all the details in my website BUILD LOG - PART VI at the bottom of the log as well as a lot of photographs.

THANKS GUYS - IT'S BEEN FUN!!!

After 3 nine hour days or more, the boats are now completed to the stage of only needing to add the tools and accessories the boats carried with them. The structures are completed and painted.

The first of the five remaining whaleboats is shown with the following interior details installed. The Cieling Planks were installed first, then the 5 Thwarts (seats), the Stern Sheets (lower decking or Boat Steers Sole) the Bow Sheets (lower decking or Harpooners Sole), the Mast Step, the Center Board Case, the Ribs above the Ceiling Plank, and the Cutty Boards (Aft Top Deck). All of the parts were made from 1/64" x 1/64" strips and also 1/32" thick strips measured and cut from the 1/64" and 1/32" x 3" sheets since these size strips are not supplied in the kit. The Thwarts are 1/32" thick material. This boat will be completly fitted out before completing the remaining 4 boats which will only be duplicating this boat. All five boats will be completed and then the tools, harpoons, tubs, sail and mast, etc. will be added to each completed boat.

Hi guys, I served on the Kennedy from 69-72 EM3, E Div #3 Engine Room.  I looked for years for a model and never found one, even tried to convert the Tamiya Enterprise, but never finished it.  There is a Chinese company unfortunately that makes one now in 1:350 scale.  You might also be able to convert a 1:350 Nimitz since they are kinda...sisters..sort of.

Very interesting thread. The thing I used the most throughout the build was a good set of digital calipers and a steel cork bottomed ruler that reads both metric and inches. Secondly, as my model (Charles W Morgan) progressed I found needs for a good versatile small vise and at least a very good tight tolerance drill press or mill. A miniature wood lathe and accessories were used once the planking was done. PM me when you think you might need some power tools and I'll make you a good price. Great ship model choice, one I've dreamed about building but have no room. Enjoy

My opinion is that if you aren't turning a 3" D carbon steel stock, then you should have no power problems with the Sherline, just don't get in too big a hurry - you can stop any lathe doing that.  Go for it - like someone said earlier - you deserve it....

Wow Bruce, looks terrific. I'm really glad you bought Chucks large blocks, it makes all the difference in the world. That was one of the best decisions I made on building my Morgan. The remaining blocks should be replaced as well, again the details. Great looking model, glad I could help. MS told me they didn't need anything since they had an instruction Manual.

Hello Ohio, welcome back to the Niagara Club.  Good job repairing damage - can't tell.  Should you need any photos of the Niagara in Erie, I have an entire page with 3-400 pictures of the Niagara on my website in the Gallery Section:  US Brig Niagara.  Check it out if you need pictures - they are taken from a modelers "eye" and mostly the rigging and deck structures.  This will probably be my next build if I should chose to build another one.  Here's the link:  http://www.charleswmorganmodel.com

Hi Mike, sorry to hear about your electronics and electric.  After the 7" 2 weeks ago I put the Ferrari up on 4 concrete 4" concrete blocks to keep water from getting in it.  It got within 1/2" last time.  Lake level has dropped 18" today so it's back below the bulkheads.  We still have 2' to go yet.  Niagara is looking good.

Nice progress! It's a lot of fun putting all the pieces together, isn't it? Just as a reminder, I'm not sure if you noticed, but there is a red splotch on your deck starboard of your aft hatch. I hope that was correct terminology ! She is looking fantastic!

Thank you Don & Joel. She is beginning to look more ship-like.

Joel, yes I will be painting them. Just having a hard time deciding between neon green or orange Seriously, I am already creating a lot of touch up work - the bow rail, fashion pieces, I'm sure there will be more. Should probably start a list of items so I don't overlook something.

Coming along, coming along.  Clever find with the basket.  You no doubt have a plan to paint the new fashion pieces.
