    texxn5 got a reaction from demetri in USS Constitution by Texxn5 (John F) - FINISHED - Revell - PLASTIC - 1:96
Well, after 44 years I guess I'm going to be like Andy.....She is finished with the exception of a few touch ups, and a couple of backstays that need tightening up, and building the wood base for her....

today I hung the boats and here we are. This has been quite an experience, and I appreciate all the help and encouragement from this Forum. Without it I probably would not have finished, at least not in a timely manner....this kept me going and here it is.

Thanks to everyone for all their input and encouragement. Here's some pictures, and I'll post a group in the Gallery in the next few days, as I finish the base. Thanks.......

Hello Larry, hope all is well with you. We haven't been in touch in quite a while.  I am working on my Niagara Carronades  and like how you did the threaded elevation jackscrew vs the quoin.  What size thread did you use and where did you find it.  I can't find anything smaller than 2mm.  Time is short for me right now so I'll catch up with you a little later.  My Admiral has had a few strokes over the past 6 weeks so I've been busy taking care of her, however, I'm trying to work on my Niagara in between to keep from going crazy.
    Thanks for any help,
    John

texxn5 got a reaction from kuya in DREMEL 4" TABLE SAW W/ACCESSORIES
Hi guys, I find it necessary to sell off a few things I have. This item is also listed on eBay (item # 232404736558) if any one has an interest.  The ebay auction will end Monday afternoon. Please go to ebay to check it out.
"I have refurbished this saw and it has made 2 cuts since then. New blades, motor, belt, extra belt, wrenches, Allen wrenches, wood sled, Miter and Rip Fence w/Bell Variable Adjusting Angle Rip Fence, all Original Manual & Parts List. This is everything you need to make anything miniature that you would need a Table Saw for. Everything you see is new (used to make 2 cuts) and what you will get. The only reason that I am selling this saw is because I need a bigger one and this is not being used.  It runs like a top and with the Proxxon 36 tooth Carbide Blade will cut anything to perfection no matter how hard or small it is.  These saws are becoming really hard to come by and are highly sought by model builders who demand precision and bring premium prices when one of this quality and condition come on the market.  There is over $150.00 of extra accessories that are aftermarket items made for this saw.  I have not seen a Bell variable rip fence in over 10 years for sale.  The blade wrenches also include the star and hex wrenches for some of the other screws used in the saw's construction.  There is an extra new belt and the belt on the saw is new. Bid with confidence that this is the best Dremel Saw on the market with the most accessories you will find in one place. There will be no disappointments with this baby and you can use it for years before it would need anything but dusting off. Being sold as is, with no warranties.  Buyer will pay shipping as this is a bulky relatively heavy item.  This is a no reserve auction with a low starting bid of only $0.99.  So far the bids are very low, so I hope it goes for more.

Sorry for any inconvenience, I had to end my listing on ebay early because I had an error in the description saying I would cover the shipping which was $38.75, when I meant the buyer would pay to ship. Therefore, I'm not going to relist on ebay, but anyone interested, my asking price is $285.00 + shipping.  I take all credit cards and paypal for anyone interested in buying it. I can send an invoice and you can pay from it.

I'm posting lot's of pictures for anyone that has an interest in building this ship.  There are vague instructions and tricky plans to read if you aren't used to pulling several drawings together to figure out one part...and no photo's except what's been taken of the real ship...

Hello Piet, I am glad to hear that you and Gwen are safe.  We were headed out your way in May and got as far as Perry, Fl going to meet Diane's 2 boys in Melbourne.  We were going to try to meet with ya'll after meeting the boys, but Diane had a stroke and we immediately came back home.  She then had 2 more strokes and spent 3 weeks in the Hospital and rehab.  We came home and she had another one.  It's now been a month since the last one so hopefully there won't be any more.  It seems now that dementia is moving in, so chances are we will not be RVing anymore.  I'm not sure how her recovery is going to be yet but so far it is slow.  We had 23" of rain and the lake flooded by 5'6" the highest it's ever been.  It got within 2' of getting in the house.  My garage flooded and my Ferrari got water in the trunk, interior and engine so it is totaled.  Still waiting for Insurance Co. to contact me.  2017 has not been a very good year.  Be safe my friend, and I hope you weather this storm safely.  tell Gwen hello and our prayers go out to you.  These storms are something else!
    Take care,

texxn5 got a reaction from Burroak in Best Wood Filler to use on ship hull
Fortunately, I needed very little filler. Where I did, I used Testor's Contour Putty (gray tube). It dried fast and sanded easy. The other thing was that MS Primer was extremely thick. So when I primed the area, it filled the gaps nicely and retained the plank shapes defining them nicely. It also sanded easily. My only problem was that MS's paints do leave brush marks, and the primer wasn't that easy to completely cover sometimes taking 3 coats, but overall I was pleased with the outcome.

Hello Mike, welcome to the "club".  I just finished my whaleboat a few days ago.  It's really a fun project.  Looks like you're off to a good start.  I have tons of information on this subject, much of which is on my website.  Feel free to check it out and be sure and ask questions if needed.  I built mine with the sails up and rigged as a Spritsail w/Jib Beetle boat.  Have fun, let me know if I can help.

Hi Scott, I am the Proxxon Dealer and one of the Sponsors on this Forum.  PM me for a special price for members here. Just click on the "Proxxon" ad on the right hand side of the main page here on the Forum to go to my website for full specs on the lathe as well as pictures.  I have used the DB 250 lathe for all my ship and model building and it works flawlessly.  It has a hole running through the motor end so that a long dowel can fit through it and allows for a lot of work on the ends of the spars and masts.  My website talks about not shipping to Canada, but I will for members here.  It only is for the outside world.  Just bear in mind that shipping is around $40-50.  With your full address I can quote it properly.  I offer a combo kit which has the accessories.  If nothing else I would recommend the 3-jaw chuck and the chisel set since they are designed for small lathes and small work pieces.  Hope this helps and let me know if I can help.  I owned the lathe before I became a dealer and have used it for years.

Hello Ohio, welcome back to the Niagara Club.  Good job repairing damage - can't tell.  Should you need any photos of the Niagara in Erie, I have an entire page with 3-400 pictures of the Niagara on my website in the Gallery Section:  US Brig Niagara.  Check it out if you need pictures - they are taken from a modelers "eye" and mostly the rigging and deck structures.  This will probably be my next build if I should chose to build another one.  Here's the link:  http://www.charleswmorganmodel.com

    I'll be following along
