  1. I marvel at the intence work that you did on those floodlights........ they look real......... the whole pilot house looks real 👍
  2. The busted window put's the icing on the cake. THank's for the complement Gary.
  3. this AL kit has only 4 gun ports in the wrong place'es, has no scuppers, no gun ports at stern etc.... etc. that's what i mean about making the model correct..... i should have been more specfic.
  4. I want to thank all of you for yuor input on this subject. i bought this AL kit (mayflower) a few years ago, after i bought the AL Virginia 1819 (my first build) . i'm still working on the 1819 and still learning, when other projects are out of the way. so i thought it would make sense to research the mayflower before i atempt to build it. and that brought me to open this can of worms. a lot of work has to be done to this AL kit to make the mayflower model correct.
  5. I tend to agree with you Roger........ makes sence. however i read on the internet that it was the HMS MAYFLOWER at first..... and took part in chasing the spanish out of the english channel....... maybe it was painted when it was the HMS ??? if anything i read is true🙄
  6. here's a site....... you may already knowof it, but if not you mite find something......... i do weathering too. this is a o scale tanker i sold on ebay last winter. http://theweatheringshop.com/home.html
  7. Is this model going to a museum ? and on a other note, have you heard from Doris, the lady building that fantastic card model ship....... she has not posted anything since march............ i pray no miss fortune has come to her.
  8. That's some knock out work that you are doing........ you are another true artist, that i have seen on this site.😉 Did you get your weathering skill's from doing model railroad rolling stock & structures ?
  9. I searched the net, trying to find out if ship's were painted in the 1600's........ near as i could find was the 1700's. i wonder if the mayflower was orignally painted ??
  10. soak brass in acetone. i use JAX green patina........ can be found on ebay......... no mixing........ easy peasy.
  11. high humidity will cause lacquer to blush, as we call it in the trade ( fog ). the way to beat it is to spray a slower drying lacquer thinner over it..... one fast wet coat. give it about 20-30 minutes , see if the blush is drawn out...... if not repeat........ this process is for lacquer products only. being an autobody man & painter....... been their done it. lacquer thinner comes in different temperature ranges. fast dry, medium , slow .
  12. The garboard plank, is wider than your plank's ( strakes ) are. once you map out your garboard plank, you may find that you are right on target.🙂
  13. I don't know how you can do it....... were talking micro and working with paper......... But i do know you will take the build to the blue max.🙂
  14. wow ! you took that card stock kit to the blue max........ great work Dan.
  15. you are entering the phase of serious planking........ i like to plank my ships or boats, one time like they are orignally built , then stain or paint the hull. before you start planking, look over this http://modelshipworldforum.com/resources/Framing_and_Planking/plankingprojectbeginners.pdf to edge bend and twist bend planks real easy go here www.syrenshipmodelcompany.com/resources/ChapterchapFour.pdf TOM G Cleveland, Ohio U.S.A.
  16. you tube can steer you wrong on a lot of things, your on course for being your first build. and you are enjoying it......... i think you will be building another. mind you these ship kits take a long time to build, and you have to educate yourself as you go along. you may reach a point where you feel exhausted but don't give up the ship....... take some time off, and you will bounce back. now about planking go here http://modelshipworldforum.com/ship-model-framing-and-planking-articles.php www.syrenshipmodelcompany.com/resources/ChapterchapFour.pdf it took me a while to wrap my head around all this, 🙄 this is the right way to do the planking process.
