Some small advance:
As I can get back to my desk and work on the ship, some little things just annoyed me a bit. The doors framing were different one from another and I had to sand some more stains that shouldn´t be there all over the ship.
That gave me some extra work, since I had already made the doors to fit the frame. Well, took out the frames and now have to do new doors. Made one already, but don´t know if I´ll keep it. Thinking in doors with some work, some finery.
For sanding, that´s some real deal. Do I sand it now and then make some fixing to waxing/varnishing the dark wood or sand it later on, when all dark wood is properly stained/colored? Both ways seems to me to leave open field for errors.
Meanwhile, finished my first outern rails. AL gave me too few wood for that and I´m using some from my scrapbox for the second. I´ll modify the ship here, too, as the plans bring some small wooden balls to top the rails and I simply don´t find out why they should be put in there (have seen none on other junks).
I made and remade the rails, for they seemed all the times to be untidy.
Doors work - As u can see, the door on the frame don´t fit.
Those doors will give me some trouble, I think. Don´t know if I´ll be able to make them functional.

Working on the transom. Found an eagle on E-Bay..better than Constructo's. Still some work to be done to clean it up. False cannons are all glued in. Some deck trim glued in.

Thanks for the likes and comments.
Sam,
Two layers with the joins offset. Hahn provides a plan for the blank layout which I think can be seen under the blanks. I hang onto those also just in case...
David,
I was on the path of no return a long time ago...
Augie,
I think I found out why my aeromodeling and flying didn't work. I never perfected the flat spin. Mine spiraled in...
It will probably be a while before the next update (or not). I'm going to cut out all 60 frames first before trying to mount them in the jig permanently. I've found that doing "production run" methods on things is keeping me focused and allows for re-making parts easier.

Mark, Dan, thats not sawdust, those are little tiny granules of Retirement Induced Contentment and Happiness! Your R.I.C.H!
And now a question. Are each of your frames made of two layers with the joins off set or one layer with half lapped joints? I enlarged the photo and for the life of me I cant tell.

You are now entering the eerie zone. You will now saw and sand and waver. Did you sand to much did you cut correct. You are now starting down the path of no return.

Let's see if I got this right... first we make lots of little pieces of wood from big pieces, then we make big pieces of wood from the little pieces so we can cut and shape and make little pieces of wood from those big pieces. er.. right? Ok.. I think I got it. I finished making all the bigger pieces of wood from the small pieces. All 60 frame blanks are ready to go.
Now to start cutting the frames from them.

G'day mate (you got a name?),
If you're having trouble getting enough wood off with sandpaper I have two suggestions :
1. Use a fairly heavy grit paper to take off the bulk - 60 or 80 grit. Then use gradually finer grades (150 and 240) to finish the hull, ending with about 400 grit.
2. Use a cork block to which you can Contact Cement the 60 or 80 grit paper. This will give you a lot more pressure than you can apply with your fingers alone, and will make a flatter hull without dips. Use a 2nd cork block filed into a half-round for the concave areas around the stern. To replace the paper, heat it with a hair dryer set on MAX or better yet a heat gun - the paper will peel off the block easily.

Just a quick update. I have assembled all my carriages to a certain point. Still ned to make the Bolsters, Quoins and trucks as well as all the metal work.
I am thinking of displaying with an unconventional arrangement with the carriages lashed sideways, at least the two front carriages. That will hide my oops from earlier. I need t do some research and see how common this was.

Hi Sam,
Your carriages are stunning. I got so far with my Endeavour ones and put them aside until I my mind set for doing them is right.
Cheers

Rich Do not despair, I've had experience with Constructo but the instructions are excellent if you compare with the Vasa BB.
The positive side is that it definitely helps to improve the Hobby since awakens imagination and skills you have never thought.
Saludos, Karl

While I'm pondering my next steps, I'm mounting the cannons so I can construct and mount the gunport covers. If I put the covers on before the cannon, my fat fingers won't let me insert the cannons into the holes I'd drilled way back in November. I've also glued on the starboard bow ornament. The wooden wedges will be removed when the glue dries.
A comment about Constructo: They give you a nice kit, but the drawings and instructions are extremely lacking in many areas. I have to figure out an awful lot on my own. When I built my first kit, the instructions were much better.

Hmmmm.. I think the first error is buying the kit, the second is starting, but the biggest sin would be giving up. Not that I think you have any intention of that. You recover well from your (mis)adventures, I've no doubt this will be the same.

Sjors,
A compound miter is a miter in two planes; both a bevel and a miter. Think of the miter needed to install crown molding or the miter you need on your planking at the stem. You need an angle to match where the plank meets the stem but there is a second angle running towards the inner portion of the ship. Am I explaining this ok? I can see it in my head but never had to describe one.
Here is a picture of one, maybe that will help.

@ Sam,
I understand it now and yes, I can do that.....
And no, I don't go to the dark side......yet.
After the two beasts I have one kit that I really want to do and maybe then.....I take a peek to the other side.
