  1. first frame glued, hopefully these make do clamps will work. I'm buying stronger clamps for the rest of the frames. Having put this one together I now think it is not 1:64 but 1:60 so as long as all the rest of the parts are the same it will be ok.
  2. Hi, I've started a scratch build and found cutting frames by coping saw labour intensive. Searching the internet came up with various scroll saws all out of my budget but a proxxon jigsaw was not and would leave me enough to get a table saw. So I wondered if the jigsaw would be any good. All input welcome. Cheers
  3. Well after a couple of hours I have my first frame cut, it definitely in need of some serious sanding but for a first attempt and that with a coping saw I'M happy. Only eight more to go.😅
  4. Hi all, I have managed to resize the plans and have reprinted the smaller versions. I've cut out one test frame template and glued it to my wood which is walnut, and now just need to cut the frame components which will be slow work as I'm using a coping saw with a very fine blade. Unfortunately I don't yet own a scroll saw but depending on how I find making my own parts I will buy one. Til next time
  5. I'm waiting patiently for Speedy and saving my pennies, because Christmas is coming also my birthday. My family have been told😆
  6. Hi Mark, Hmm I'm not at all tech savvy and can just about manage an email but I will look into it. Do they do things like that for tablets (a very old galaxy tab s?)
  7. Hi all, this will be a very slow build as I'm still undecided wether to build 1:48 or 1:64. With the latter I'm going to have to get my plans resized, with the former a whole new stock of wood will have to be bought. That said I may end up doing both just for all the experience. Any way not alot to post about apart from having spent the last hour or two printing the plans. Cheers all Jon
  8. Thanks Chuck, I'm going to get right to it.
  9. Hi LS She's looking better every day. I must say I'm a little envious of how neat and tidy you've got her😉
  10. Hi Chuck, I'm interested in doing the triton cross section, but I'm in the UK so my question is how much are the plans as on the nrg page they are $5, is there any extra charge for sterling purchases? Thanks
  11. Nice work LS Eamonn will be pleased as the rudder is on😆 and I heard no cursing ! Have you thought how you are doing your deadeye strops this time?
  12. Thanks LS I'm waiting for Vanguards Speedy but there may be an attempt at a scratch build before then. Again thankyou Tony your Sherbourne inspired me.
  13. Oh almost forgot a special thank you to Tkay11 and Dubz as it was their build logs of Sherbourne that popped up on an internet search that brought me here in the first place.🍻😃
  14. Hello everyone, I'm doing the last bit of rigging (ratlines), make a few coils to put on the end of the running rigging and lash the anchors and I've finished my first ever wood build. Thanks to all who stuck with it and thank you for all the help, advice and encouragement without which I would have struggled. I must say that I most enjoyed rigging albeit fiddly. So last few photos
  15. Hi all, This is the last of the rigging, tying the ratlines on the shrouds. I prepared myself for complete frustration but was pleasantly surprised, the clove hitch that is used according to the rigging plan is perfect for getting a good rhythm and a hour and half later one side was completed. Started the opposite shrouds and then stopped for the night.
  16. Looking good LS. The cannon on Sherbourne are only small as they are 4 pounders which were considered pop guns compared with 12 or 18 pounders, if you check out Chris Wattons post for Speedy in traders forum he compares Speedy 4 pounder with Bristols 24 pounder and the difference in size beggars belief. The post btw is Chris Watton and Vanguard Models 25th July page 10 post #277. Keep up the good work Cheers
  17. Hi LS Tidy job you're doing, keep up the good work 😋 (You asked in my log: Hope youhad a great holiday.) My holiday was awesome, sun, sea, sand and grandkids (all three this year) thankyou
  18. Thanks LS I'm back to work Monday so I've got to get what time I can in the shipyard. I've had a few hours on Sherbourne today, finished the standing rigging and got started on the running rigging. I'll say it again but I am really enjoying this part of the build, maybe because it brings the ship to life. Anyway fitted the gaff and driver booms and rigged them, moved on to the top yard and did have a bit of trouble getting it to sit right but got there in the end.😀 Next was the main yard and had same problem but sorted it faster this time! I'll leave a bit for next time. Cheers
  19. Thank you very much. Pleased to have you aboard sir ! As for the name it was a toss up between that and Edward Teach, kenway won !
  20. Well I'm back from holiday and I've started on the standing rigging.I've done the shrouds and stays and lanyards. I must admit I'm enjoying doing the rigging, I did think I would struggle a bit with the knotting and tying but I'm find it very relaxing. Next time I shall do the bowsprit. Cheers
  21. Hi LS Back off my holiday and I see you've made fine progress on your Sherbourne. You'll be finished before me at this rate. I'm liking your work though. Very smart paintwork. Cheers
