  1. After doing the obligatory Spitfire and Messerschmitt 109, the Shannon kit was my first sailing ship, I then went on to the bigger kits. Ahh childhood memories.
  2. Yes it was only very small with the sails moulded in the same plastic as the hull and other parts. They also did Victory, Revenge and Golden Hind in this series, I'm not sure but there may have been a Cutty Sark as well
  3. I like this idea Chris. I for one would definitely buy a Shannon kit as I fondly remember a very small scale Airfix model of the Shannon I had as a kid. So to echo Mr CCoyle "go for it "
  4. Very very nice LS she compliments Ballahoo beautifully. You got some great touches in there and they have elevated her out of the ordinary. Well done 😃👍 So on to the next project with a whole lot more skills than when you first started with Ballahoo. Keep up the great work.
  5. Hi LS, what can I say but great work!! You've done a sterling job with the rigging and Sherbourne looks fantastic. I hope you had fun along the way? Whatever you choose to do next I shall be following with interest. Good luck Cheers
  6. Hi Chad, Eagle is looking amazing!! I am in awe of you and other full frame ship builders as you put so much detail into the ship. Please keep up the good work and I'm watching avidly. Cheers Jon
  7. Hi Chad I'm in construction as a bricklayer and they don't lay well in the wet!! Also when the temperature drops below 2 degrees Celsius work grinds to a halt, so over the British winter I can get quite a bit of time in the shipyard. I'm mainly a housebuilder but do get to build other things from time to time.
  8. Hi, been at work today so only had couple of hours on X section this evening. Still at work on the lower deck structure, lots of components, the knees take a bit of cutting and shaping to make them fit. I think there is at least another 2 or 3 hours work before this deck is done, then it's more of the same for the gun deck. Thanks Chad, Eamonn, Phil and Blackviking for your interest 👍 Til next time. Cheers
  9. Hi Peta, I've been following this build and it's looking really great, you have exceptional skill.
  10. Thanks again Chad, I'll try the teak oil on some scrap as you suggested, if it looks good I'll get the hanging and lodging knees done then give the planking an oiling. Cheers Jon
  11. Thanks Chad. I was just going to put a matt varnish on it. I wouldn't know what oil to use. I have some teak oil for the outdoor chairs, would that do it? Cheers Jon
  12. Hi, RAIN AGAIN@#@÷!!, so not at work. Started on the lower deck structure, it's so intensive, I have nothing but the utmost respect for those people doing a full framed scratch build, all those frames and decks. But I'm getting there (faster with the weather as it is). Got let the glue dry so till next time😉👍 Cheers
  13. I was going to ask same question but guess I don't have to now👍
  14. Good to see you back Eamonn, it will be nice to see your Ballhoo out of ordinary! Sherbourne is a nice boat to build, and another in the fleet is always welcome. I'm glad you got a brand new shipyard too😃👍 Cheers
  15. Beautiful galleys and your music is sublime sir. Thank you.
  16. Hi again, more rain today so more time on Triton X section. More planking on the inside and beam arms cut and attached to the deck beam. If it keeps raining I shall have this finished😅 Thanks for the likes and looking in👍sorry about the strobing effect of the planking but I'm mainly using whatever wood I have and just buying what I haven't got.
  17. Thanks for looking in Eamonn 👍 Hi, we got a lot of rain here where I live so got myself a few more hours on Triton X section. As I knew they would the deck beams I fixed yesterday had to come off, well one of them. Started to plank the inside. Shaped the limber stakes from some basswood as it was the largest strip I have in my stock. The thick stuff over the futtock joints is beech. I'm liking the beech wood, I may have to use it on my Triton POB build. This X section is coming along now, still slowly but I can see what I'm doing now. Well that's it for now, because I have to let the glue dry. Till next time Cheers
  18. Hi all, Just small update, my wood arrived just about 24 hours after clicking order. So marked lower deck clamp and glued planks to sit deck beams on then dry fitted two beams as test. As they fitted I glued them in place, but no doubt they'll have to come out again!!! but it is only white glue. The rest of the beams are now laying out pinned to put the required camber on them. There's a lot of cutting notching and measuring to do now so till next time. 😅 Cheers Thanks for the likes.👍
  19. Hi all, Another short stint on the cross section and it has seen me attach the frames to the keel and then fix the keelson. Now waiting for the glue to dry before doing more. Till next time Cheers Thank you all who have looked in.😉
  20. Bob thanks for the advice, I have bought some very fine blades, they are Japanese and are a spiral so I can cut in any direction without having to alter the saw frame. That said I will look into upgrading my coping saw, so many thanks for your interest and encouragement . Cheers
  21. I may just buy one piece to see what it is like, if it's not suitable I'm only down £12 but then it will still get used somewhere.
  22. Thank you Mark for your encouraging comments.👍 The scrap box will never be empty on this and subsequent builds. Anyway back to the cross section and I'm celebrating as I've finished cutting the frames.🍾👍As soon as my deck structure wood turns up I'll be cutting all the components of those out but I can see more than a lot of pieces of walnut now that the frames are glued. Just a "bit" of sanding and I'm ready to start putting it together. I just realized why I'm still waiting for my wood, I forgot to click ORDER😠
  23. Whilst looking for someone in the uk who supplies differenttypes of wood to use for my triton build I came across the Wood Veneer Hub who have cherry veneer sheets 345cm × 18cm at 1.5mm thick for £11.91 so I wondered if any uk members have used this site for this and wether it would be suitable for planking. Any input gratefully received. Cheers
