I suspect that an expert builder like Michael will use fillers, Dan.

    Hi Michael -

Sweet work, and done with a hand saw.  Impressive.

It's probably an artifact of the photo, but my eye says that the space between your 5th and 6th bulkheads may be too large to support the arc that the planks will need to take.  As usual, I could be dead wrong.😉

    Thanks for the visits.
Making sawdust. The first set of bulkheads these are cut to the inside of the ribs.
These are the set for the port side and I have been reworking them, most needed to be jumped to give enough wood to allow for the new shape.

The #11 was trimmed from the #12 and so it goes.

I will use the port set as templates for the starboard set.

    Work continues.

    Michael

Thanks for your warm welcome mate

Roll the PE around a metal rod ... that's the easy (not very creative) part. Getting it glued, without the rod inside, and keeping it round ... now that is a different muddle. You do, however, get the hang of it when I look at the picture. i am more curious as to how you will make the open end for the tube, that is a lot harder

That should be enough if you are a fervent Ikea modeller ...

They just would have to cope now, wouldn't they ... When I look at Musashi (old tool) with FlyHawk and Pontos PE sets, that would be about the same, instruction-wise that is.  You just start at the beginning and muddle through. A bit like every model you've made ...

Thanks Sam. I thought of the locking tabs.  I'm going to run a couple of tests to see which I like better.

    Mark,
We are using our CNC routers more and more at work for cutting parts and speeding production. Many times we are make frames similar in method to what we do here with false keels and bulkheads. Something I have found benificial is cutting a slight taper to the alignment tabs between sections of what would be the the false keel here. It doesnt take much a few degrees, less at this scale. I have also gone as far as making the pattern different between for instance join AB and BC. It makes it harder to get parts mixed up - not that I have ever done something like that. Nope! Nor Sir, not me!
    Just a thought.
    Sam

I was watching a British-made television documentary about the development of naval ships last night. ("Heavy Metal" it was called.) They were interviewing the curator of Victory aboard the vessel right next to a gun and carriage. The gun had a hammered lead cover on the flint lock, exactly as do yours! I expect you may know that, but I was very impressed with your eye for detail. If it weren't for this thread, I'd still be wondering what that "lead patch" was on top of the gun.

    Ah ha! Cog’s back!

Nearly every PE instructions I have seen have some type of beni g instructions not the finished product that just mentions the part numbers.

For instance, the rear end of the torpedo types require rolling then wrapping around a drill bit to even come close to being right, and I’m yet to see any instructions for that.

I'm smiling at the re-work.    As for the "blue line", hold off until you get the bulkheads installed and can check the "flow" across the top to it.  Better to wait and see than wonder how to put the wood back if it needs to be there.  It does appear that the "slot" is also too high but... I'd hold off as long as possible and check the fit after the bulkheads go on.
