I've decided to dip my feet into the world of scratchbuilding and I think this is a great place to start. I had a piece of Brazilian Cherry lying around and thought it would make a fine keel. I think I'll choose something a little lighter for the frames.

OK, I requested and was granted access to the files. Thanks Chuck ! After taking a quick look I saw that the frames were 3/16" thick. I took a drive to a local woodworking shop and picked up a couple of pieces of cherry that are 1x4x40. Cost me $21.00. Next I used the ripping blade on my table saw to make a couple of 1/4" blanks. I also ended up with a 3/16" blank but I'll use that for something else. The next step will be to use my thickness sander to finish the 1/4" blanks to 3/16. I can't do that until it shows up at my door (but it's on order  ).
I still have an uncut stick of cherry which I'm sure will be used later. At this point I plan on leaving one side open. Not sure yet what I'll use for planking the hull

    Hello,
    thanks for the nice comments.
I have to correct a statement.
This piece of equipment is not a stearing roller (reel ). Meanwhile, I know that this is a chain-pipe. This part is used for the anchor chain, to let down into the chain locker.

    Mizzen Mast Forestay and Collar

The Mizzen Mast Collar was made up in similar fashion to those on the Bowsprit. It's fully served and has a Heart incorporated :

I turned the Mouse on the lathe after first drilling a 1.2mm hole up the centre. This gives a good fit over the served stay :

Thanks Anja and Guy, sorry for the very delayed reply, I'm still adjusting to my current health condition.

I apologize that I may not be able to return the lost pics as I've disposed of a significant number of my files already

My Triton, if my health condition permits, will be double planked with better wood and hopefully in a more correct planking pattern

    Hi Guys

It's done, all the frames are fitted and even the starboard side is a bit sanded.

The next step is sanding, sanding sanding,..........oh I hate it.

Wow Daniel, nice progress. She's looking really good.
To simulate the caulking try a black permanent marker. I believe this will be a bit easier. At my Leopard had it worked very well.

    So...

I re-do the limber strake. I cut it to kind of square the timber using a sharp blade and some chisels. I also glued a 1x1 mm strip to simulate the step where the covers of the limber go. It has been a surgery work and really a pain on the neck.

I need a proxxon mill or something to reach that kind of detail, who knows... next project maybe.

All this work had to be done to start with the interior working. Right now I am dealing with the hooks and the "mast bases"

I went to the hobby shop and got a better strip of brass that closer matches the size I need. Less material to remove, easier to work with. Two holes are smaller to receive a bolt the rest will get simulated screws.....

I milled down some wood (possibly cherry [it came from a cabinet makers scrap pile]) and made the mast partners.

    update for Sail making

guided by the sail Arrangement (overview) I made 1:1 drawings of every one of the 18 sails

The Rating is transfred to the starched Cotton Cloth and prepared for sewing with greyish Color thin Polyester sewing thread.

For the bolt rope I use 1mm diam. ( greyish color model ship rigging rope in Polyester)

Have just finished the first two sails, spanker and main top sail, but still have to attach cringles and  reefing strops. Gues the sail making shall take quite some time from now on to get all 18 sails completed

Found this on the web for duck-Standards on Britsh sail Cloth :

    Sail making, Cloth sizes
Standards for British manufactured sailcloth were enacted in 1746.
In Addition to requiring British sail makers to mark each new sail with his Name and adress, the size of a bolt of sailcloth was standerdized at twenty-four inches wide. The seam was 1 - 1,5 " wide

In scale 1/64 this results to 9 mm sail Cloth-width

    Mizzen Mast Shrouds

The Standing Rigging for the Bowsprit is now complete, so I'm turning my attention to the Mizzen Mast rigging. The reason I'm starting back-to-front to real practice is one of access - once the mainmast shrouds are fitted it will make rigging the mizzen forestay a little more difficult.

All the mizzen shrouds are served for about 6 feet below the mast top - unlike the other two masts the foremost shrouds aren't served for their full length as there is no Mizzen Course which could chafe them. I left them overlength for now, and lashed the pairs together around the mast :

Using a wire spacer between deadeyes I measured each shroud, starting with the foremost starboard pair, which are the first to be fitted. Then I removed the pair from the mast and turned in the deadeyes on the bench using a vise and a set of Third Hands - much easier than attempting to do them on the ship.

When all four pairs were done I fitted the Laniards :

Thanks Brian, Steve, Nils, Grant, Ed, George and Mark - much appreciated .

    Main Stay Collar

This is the largest Collar on the ship. Again, it is served all over.

After measuring and serving the line I "spliced" an eye into one end. Next I lashed the Heart to it. Then came the fun part - attempting to pass the line through the hole in the knee of the head. To assist me with this I tied a length of thin cotton to the free end and led that through the starboard headworks, through the hole, and then back up through the port headworks. All went very well .

Once the line was all in position I passed the free end through the first eye and seized the end back on itself :

The bowsprit sails are on !
    Also the rigging.
I thought it was easy by the drawings but no, not that easy......
Some ropes are going somewhere and they don't tell you where to go.
So I take the book of Peterson next to it.
But then....I have a Spanish ship and not English.
Can i just imagine that she is captured by the English and re-rigged ?
    Is this sound strange ?
    What do you think......

At 700 HRS. into the build, it's time to finish off the cannon barrels.  We'll be using 1/16" eyebolts with just a short length of the base left to insert into the gun:

The hole was drilled with a #76 pin drill at an angle so that the ring sits hard to the small knob.  A very small dab of thin CA was applied prior to insertion.  Here's the 32 gun cannon 'forest' ready for painting:

Now ready for painting.......see you in 2 weeks!!!

I have the gunports properly silled and sized (is silled a word?).  I've also hit her with another round of fairing and am almost comfortable with it but I'll hold off until the stern is built, checked, verified and approved as this was my Waterloo the last time.  Or maybe the wrong side of Trafalgar?   Hmm...

Anyway, I've started measuring, scratching my head, and sorting out how I'm going to do this and get it right.  I'm thinking I'll have draw the transoms, make templates for starters.

    Hi juergen
Thank you again! Still have an awful lot to learn especially with regards to interpreting and working from lines plans. Currently trying to get my head around a line drawing of HMS cruiser from the nmm. Good job of got a plentiful supply of drawing paper I think there will be a lot of waste!
Looking forward to further updates on your triton, I shall be watching with great interest.
    Cheers ......mick
