Hi Moxis, a good idea with using acid primer, I was standing in front of the same question when it was time to paint the plating of my KWdG. After some search I came up with a one-component adhesive helping spray can clear primer. I did some prior trials on aluminium foil, It smelled terribly when applied while curing, so finaly I let go from that idea again, and the cover paint was brush-painted on the plating without primer at all. As you are forseeing RC control for the ship on the lake, certainly you will require a more well adhesive bonding of the cover coating and that will be given with the acid primer. Nils

Hi Steve, your pinnace looks just lovely..... I have a question : In your post of Oct. 18 a pic is showing the clamps you are using to span down the floor planks to the frames. What sort of clamps are these, is it a special version for office use ? Do they have a special nomination ? Nils

Thank you Moxis, if the chosen ship-scale is 1:48 I choose the figures 1:48 or 1:50 (hardly no difference in hight), both can be found at Ebay source looking for "Preiser", or others. Here I was seeking for some seated figures and and found some unpainted seated ones during a web-search. In some cases I made some hats my self for adding on.... Some figures out of the model railway gauge "O" also suit 1:48 and 1:50, and there are also maritime tin cast sailor crew-figures in hight 35mm that do the job well... Nils Here is a 1:48 helmsman for the ship`s boat, his self made tricorne is a bit large, thats good when it rains...

Hi and good morning Antony, yes, I have thought about it (covering frames) , but trust its too late now, so I`m anxoius to let it end up in a mess. The multi ply becomes a bit darker during the months, so I can live with that. The visable (outcut on my Pegasus) frames got already twice as dark as when built... I`m pleased you like the pics... Many thanks to Piet and Patrick, for your appreciative words, Piet, yes, I have a lot of ideas in mind, which sometimes can be made real.... Patrick, am really having fun with the build, most of the ideas worked out quite well to date, so there`s not been much for the bin.... Nils

Update : today, fitting out some of the crew-life under deck...., as long as there is still some access to the interior. The combination (table with sitting benches) was assembled within the ship with tweezers etc.... Nils All figurines scale 1:48 the hull single-planking is with 6 x 1,5mm planks.... the standing hight midships is not too much, but it gets better towards bow and stern the hull pencil-marking left in the pic is the waterline.....

Many thanks to Carl and Piet, also thanks to all the "likes"... I just saw this figure when I was seeking for a head (in the right scale) of the rudder post. I`m pleased I found this one and with some taken off moulding (head only) and resin, that was the result... Nils

Moxis, a very nice planking job, and nice lines the hull has.... for the "riveting" of the plating are you going to use self adhesive aluminium foil, guess that would be of benefit... Nils

Lovely painting Jim, congrats, I love this one it really looks like as if you yourself documented the stranding way back in 1906 ! at low tide. The camera operator, the groups and wagon in the background and the persons at the ship`s side bring this scene to life Nils

The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
