    Chuck,

I do not know if this will help or not. I have a copy of Timothy Wilson's " Flags at Sea" in which the attached illustration can be seen. I have no idea how this publication compares with other sources but it may be of some use.......or merely muddy the waters further!

    Top line left to right;

    English Royal Standard c 1407 to 1603.
British Royal Standard 1603 to 89 and 1702 to 07.
British Royal Standard 1689 to 1702.

    Middle line left to right;

British Royal Standard 1707 to 14.
British Royal Standard 1714 to 1800.
British Royal Standard 1801 to 16.

Chuck, the standard in the last post is for the Kingdom of Great Britain, established and adopted by Queen Anne in 1707.

Queen Anne first used the Royal Standard you show in the earlier post ( Fleur-de-lis and lions in the first and fourth quadrant).  This was called the Royal Standard of England, first adopted in 1603.

    Regards,

Thank you very much guys....its tough to look at so many variations of these....its like playing...."one of these things is different than the others"  when you were a little kid.  As you can see this is not one of the choices I selected before....LOL.  It will go at the bow with the union jack in the middle.

Much time has passed, but now i am back

Next step was to build the deadeyes and chainplates for the main-platform.

For the holes in the deadeyes I need a helpfull tool.
The tool it´s made from wood and brass.

The deadeyes are made on the lathe

After drilling the deadeyes the edges are chamfered  upward

Now it´s time to made the chainplates.
The plates have the dimensions of 1 mm x 0,5 mm x 12mm; above an eye and down a long hole 0.5 mm x 1 mm

    The plates in position

The plates are fixed with glue on the deadeyes ready for stropping

The stropp for deadeyes is made with a real splice
The rope, made from three strands, will opend and for each strand i use a needle to made the splice.

All deadeyes are finish spliced on plates

    Have fun

    Marvelous details Pat.
I am envious that you are that far ahead(of me/my build).
However your work shows great patience and thought of process.

Hi folks, well it is time for another well overdue update.  Thanks all for looking in and the likes; much appreciate the interest and comments. Nice to see you back Mike.

I have now trialled a couple of methods for fitting the yards in such a confined space.  My solution is that after rigging the yard completely, I form the parrels off the model and hold them temporarily with the electronics micro-clips you can see in the photos below, lower the jeer blocks, fit the slings, fit the parrel then raise the yard into position..  i will post more detail when I get to this stage.

I form most of the blocks etc, as shown below, off the yard then rig them into place when all are complete.  I am at the stage of rigging the stirrups -  I think the photos show the process with sufficient detail to not provide further comment here.  When the stirrups are dry I will slide the blocks, tackle pendant, brace pendants etc into place (over the stirrups.  When all are in place I will trim the draw rope and seizing, then reeve the foot rope.  More photos of that stage to follow.  The other photos show some of the detail of the process and final fit.

    cheers

    Pat

edmay reacted to grsjax in what wood to use for specifics....
Box, pear and apple are the premier woods for all parts but expensive and sometimes hard to find.  Low end is basswood for everything.  Works well but has its own problems.  I like cherry as a good all around wood that is both available and affordable.  Maple is also an excellent choice.  Walnut can be a bit difficult to work with as it has a somewhat open grain but looks really good.

I would go with maple for framing and decks, cherry for planking.

Another source of wood, if you have the tools is a flooring store. My local Lumber Liquidator sells their leftovers and scrap every year. You can get mahogany, maple, cherry and other hard woods. Usually comes to a couple of dollors a board foot. Inconsistant but you can find some really good stuff.

Drilling out and shaping the rings that the elevation screws will be in. Sanding toothpicks down to make the elevation screws. Drilling small holes & gluing metal eyebolts for the breech line rings. Haven't completed these steps on all the carronades yet but showed the pics for the few that I have so far.

Making & painting the sleds, pics coming......   Also have to make lugs & add them to the bottom of each carronade.
