Dan Vadas got a reaction from cristikc in Bismarck by Dan Vadas - FINISHED - GPM - 1:200 - CARD and PE
I've spent two days adding extra pieces of 0.5mm card to the bulkheads to thicken them up a bit, and also adding longitudinal stringers from 1mm card to stiffen the bulkheads prior to Fairing (I haven't started that yet). I used the leftovers from the bulkhead sheets as a template to draw the shapes of each bulkhead to the extra card :

So you are tellin' us you're old ????
A pitty I could only find you a paper version of the  Yamato in 1:250 else it would have been a nice companion to both ...

Thanks for the link mate, but I got the plastic thing at 1:350. However, it is tempting ... You, on the other hand, can have your pick and get your fleet into shape

well the hanger has a helo in it now, lol not that anyone in a maritime site would care, but i had to, my hands were tied, it has a fairly cheap basic OOB build, and I even left some bits off, the rotors blades were a pain as they were not design to fold like that
here is what i am trying to copy (not my photo)
    the kit
    my attempt so far

Probably HMS Hood Pav. Bismarck needs a "companion" .

Welcome to the build Grant, Slog, Chris and Popeye .

I've made a start to the actual build - wow, she's gonna be BIG . Gotta love those laser-cut frames, they've probably saved a week's work all up. These are only the lower frames, there are just as many or more above the waterline.

I bought the table it's sitting on just for this build - my workbench isn't really big enough .

And a comparison with Amatsukaze - they are both 1:200 scale :

Only another 1,744 to go Slog . Seriously good looking though, much better than the generic PE railings. I'm a bit lucky with Amatsukaze in that the stanchions, while not fitting exactly to the marked positions, are pretty close. Marking them for drilling is a pain though .

Pity they didn't have the tab on the stanchions on the BOTTOM instead of the top - it would have made cutting them out of the tree a lot easier .

I'd say the other guy's stanchions may have come from HERE. They have centred rails.

BTW - have you seen these 3D Photo Etch Railings? Probably still have the problem with alignment though.

Very nice Jeff . One thing though - the gratings and their surrounds have a curve athwartships in the top. The higher up the deck is, the more the curvature. It's easy enough to sand the curve into it before fitting them to the deck, using a sanding block or stick.

A 20mm wide grating on the Main Deck would have about 2mm of curvature. The Forecastle and Quarterdeck Gratings would have about 3mm for a similar width one.

Finally the vents. I have to do up the anchor stuff now, chains, stoppers, breaks, anchors, cut some strip to make the anchor run flush with the decks. I've got a few more places to add vents at the base of the Pagoda, but I want to get the railings finished first.

Every reference book has the decks with deck lights and various holes and covers. No kit ever makes reference. Chrysanthemum and Sword actually make them, they're tiny! As I have some I thought I'd use them. They're the tiny dots on the wooden deck.
