Work continues on the deck furniture , I will change the color  of the dories though the plan saysgreen on the out side and tan on the inside. Pus you have to use scrap balsa to make th stand and the boat rails, scratch building lol.

    20250630_200147.thumb.jpg.e93045091d92ddf8d2ec243f91985aca.jpg

repair to the windlass are need, as well as te masts. The balsa wood is very brittle,  I had to cut new mast tops out of pear wood, the balsa just crumble in my had as I work on them.

I looked at Rodney's masts, I think I have to take them apart  together th rings on. That's a problem  for another day.

    20250630_130900.thumb.jpg.10c1dec3b64ebc28c94d7a87f1004992.jpg

I like my little  ships wheel, it is not historical correct but it will do. I see Bluenose ships wheels that have a life perseveres on them, but that's a little  to detailed for me.

more fun tomorrow, dare I say I be doing ratlines  befor long

    Knocklouder

PS is it every hard not to thouch the hulls lol 😆 🤣

  2. Well the hulls are painted and they really look good to me. My only complaint  is the color,  I used Hull red from Tamiya ,instead of Copper Hull Red from Model Expo, Me does not ship to Canada, Pity.  Lol

    20250629_210130.thumb.jpg.a267fa259f03acf17176c1b5c5036c98.jpg

It is a little  browner  then I  wanted but, It will do. :D. The paint is excellent,  it the first time I used  that brand, it flows really  nice.

    20250630_081442.thumb.jpg.45512960b3e69d1a671fda60d2132a0e.jpg

Here they areright out of the paint shop.

I labeled  them so you can tell the difference  between the little  Scientific Bluenose and  the larger  Billings Boat,  lol.

    20250630_081449.thumb.jpg.ef83a51a3f68c7e374620247dda8e86b.jpg

    20250630_081458.thumb.jpg.6cb54f17cc601ef2a6ce7f93cb69d9db.jpg

Then I put them up on the self so they could dry for several days, before  touching them.

    20250630_124328.thumb.jpg.e01edac35c0ea390753e3486c3fc0b8e.jpg

Most of the deck furniture  on the Billings Boat is made up, just going to repaint them, all the deck furniture  has to be made for the Scientific Bluenose,  plus I will start on the masts for both ships, so I have plenty  to do and the longer you let the hulls dry the better.

I will repaint both cap rails on both ship white,   Rodney  painted his Bowsprit mast  white so I see how eazy it is to sand it off and stain it brown. He also painted  his mast a darker brown but I will change  it to a lighter wood color  later.

That's  it for now shipmates, thanks  for the likes and advice I recive here daily. Thanks so much.

        Knocklouder

  3. Good Morning;

The ship's are back from the paint shop, so far I am really happy with the work.

    20250628_165028.thumb.jpg.c000a34c1454610e6c28c48b2f5e33cd.jpg

    20250628_172745.thumb.jpg.d0842477effad763fbe2436a71c4ea05.jpg

I thought today I would spray the copper hull red  from Tamiya Color, but decided to wait  till Monday to give it more time to dry.

I will  put the cap rails on the SB, and paint them white  Rodney  has  the cap rail white on the stern and black on the forward  one. The SB has them all white, I don't  know which  is right, but I will look into it and make them the same.  Another difference  os the Bowsprit mast,  white on the BB but stain light brown on the SB.

Oh well they will look good when sprayed.

So I will start to put the deck furniture together,  the Billings Boat  needs a few grates put in and all the pieces  repainted white and the Scientific Bluenose  has to be made and painted ,so lots of fun stuff to do. And I can start work on the masts as well.  Thanks for the likes and incouragement  as I journey  on.          Knocklouder

  4. 12 hours ago, Keith Black said:

A soon as I show up you break the bowsprit, what am I going to do with you, Bob?......... wait a stinkin' minute, is Pyle back in town?!

No Keith,  sadly  this was not his first offence,  regrettable  he's not getting out.for a long time.

So painting  is going full out today. Starting  with the Billings,  repainted  the black and applied  a clear coat.20250628_142330.thumb.jpg.36e7a48885104e55e5638d1094e1548a.jpg

    20250628_160113.thumb.jpg.7b9e3428834651765100d8d68fdadb74.jpg

The Scientific  is still in the paint shop waiting for second  coat on the black,  then clear coat,  after that I going to leave it for a few days to really  dry up. They is lots of deck things to make and paint.

    20250628_160925.thumb.jpg.f114db9e249287540190acde826401e6.jpg

Once the black is done and the copper color is finished on both ,I think I will rig the Billings Boat frist,  then the Scientific.

Rodney  has tray full of blocks, deadeyes, one hole blocks Up to four hole blocks  . These blocks  are way better  than the ones in the Scientific,  so I use then for it after , I am sure I will have lots left.

Back to the paint shop, rudder  repairs on the BB. the SM. Is good to go , this is so exciting,  the spray gun is warming up, as soon as I read the instructions  lol.

     Knocklouder

  5. Yesterday I  cut all the pieces  out and numbered  them.

Then started placing the pieces on but not glued down

Soon ll the deck parts were placed then put away for later.20250627_131457.thumb.jpg.090e2e6fa78cfc3267fa114f3f8b8a2d.jpg

I made and attached  the stand, I figured  if I attached  it now then take it off ,I could repair any damages if needed , yes they were needed lol.

    20250627_190541.thumb.jpg.705408e8b604b05b39837b011a9b3262.jpg

Here is my stand waiting for the final installment.

    20250627_164524.thumb.jpg.86afb042deca9d92714b802fb2f8e398.jpg

Coming  together,  time to get ready to paint .:D. A few more things to look after then I will start by painting  the black first.

     Which  brings me to,

      PART TWO:

    Rodney's  Bluenose;

    20250627_185259.thumb.jpg.b7ac312e515305532c4cf0e97f28e424.jpg

I will repaint the black and change the hull colour to copper hull red.

    20250627_184025.thumb.jpg.aff5e3d8c8e5a816af5e241e4667d506.jpg

Most of deck furniture  is installed, everything  needs repainting

The Billings Boat hull is finished  like I say, just repainting  what is there ,it  is Rodney's  work and  I will leave it as is.

Once the  black is done both ships will be sprayed.

Following  @John Ruy Bluenose  log, if I get close the that I would be a happy painter. His work is amazing,  and one of the reason I chose to make Bluenoses The first  time I looked at his logs I new I wanted to try that.

I have a bit of a fix to do on the dreaded bow spirit mast,  it starting all ready lol, at @Keith Black erging  a nose guard  will be made very shortly, lol, I  will not breaking this one of 4 or 5 times.:D

    20250627_171838.thumb.jpg.440e971010deb6612da6b4de2711a39f.jpg

It is an eazy  fix, once done the black on both ships.will start.

I feel like a kid doing a 1968 model, this Scientific Bluenose  is fun, I may look at getting  others.

    20250627_133256.thumb.jpg.0e658e6f89554b9a019e2998f0e12ba6.jpg

    20250627_133347.thumb.jpg.436cef5c9e874302679cbbda4206dfbc.jpg

I just wished I could  buy them at 1968 prices and no---- tariffs  .

To the spray both we go Talk soon.

  6. 20250627_003131.thumb.jpg.80d28da52be71cd32095b7384a9926ca.jpg

The first coat of filler was applied  last night. This morning  ,I  sanded it and gave it a coat of primer. I just brush on the frist primer as I know more filling  then a spray coat  of primer later, when she just about ready for the final  coat, but lots to do before then.

    20250627_101913.thumb.jpg.901ceb9f33f065b0e6db07184bf5ecd2.jpg

    20250627_104333.thumb.jpg.9aca162d8117fde2ab67979731f3ddaf.jpg

So letting  the primer  dry  I will cut and number all the parts.some look pretty  tiny.

I find the bigger  ofla knive works better than the smaller one.

Lots of filling and sanding to go but loving  every  moment  of the build. There are a lot of Bluenose  logs here on MSW so I should not have any problems that's can't be solved by looking at them

Thanks for looking in on my log, and for the likes and incredible support  here.

I stained and sealed the deck, I also gave a coat of shellac  to the hull.   Now I can sand the hull and then apply some filler. The reason for the sealer before I filled it, is because if we filled first,  the wood sucks the moisture out of the filler and it may fall out latter.20250626_223703.thumb.jpg.d0a8e077068861d7384630927d205df3.jpg 20250626_222700.thumb.jpg.cca65d4d86f3be940d61e564c50a7242.jpg

Sanding just  this little  bit, she going to be smooth. Lol.  The wood is balsa, and very soft and dry, brittle a bit but I have lots of filler.

I cut the fantails out, broke one but fix able. It is going to be a slow process,  but I take my time and cut slowly  with many strokes , not just one cut.20250626_224714.thumb.jpg.4cbc68b13ca889d80c4d1585376061ec.jpg

This wee kit is turning out to be a lot of fun. If I can  I take My time , but I just want to build and build, there are ratlines  to tie , sails to make, right after I learn how, lol. But the is a wealth  of info here on MSW on sails, I am excited  to try to make sails for this ship. It's an older model, but hopefully I can make it a little  beautiful ship   🚢 ️.

    .  Thanks for looking in,

    Knocklouder

  8. Welcome to my Bluenose log(s). Same model, two  manufacturers . One is a solid hull the other is another ship that Rodney gave me before he passed away.  I want them to look the same , so I will be painting  both hulls together. Thats why two for one.

    20250624_123426.thumb.jpg.78819067c45c449bd2b360870ae37978.jpg

    20250624_115124.thumb.jpg.31c035d1396028e13aa3811c78e419a4.jpg

    Part One :

The Scientific Bluenose.  It is a solid hull kit with old lead deadeyes and dories. Both have the same history..

    20250624_125210.thumb.jpg.de81c372a660d9e357e2aa1ac66774ac.jpg

First up is to open the box and see what I got.

    20250624_115300.thumb.jpg.fec95afbbb0efd23f98afe76170f8c59.jpg

    20250624_115513.thumb.jpg.e6828e83a5ddb6e37eaa8de580ae85a7.jpg

    The kit cost $16.95 in 1968, I paid $10.00.

I put everything in separate containers,  and looked at the plans .

    20250624_122842.thumb.jpg.664af381055a2f4feb0d5fda9db50a5d.jpg

The plans say to use a utility  knife and cut out the pieces.  I did one and then used the scroll saw for the rest.

    20250624_214643.thumb.jpg.8cb535795e8bb3c22e33dba467ea2caa.jpg

    20250625_190736.thumb.jpg.56cb6838b11eafb164e8b77b8226fc00.jpg

Then I glued on the keel pieces

    20250625_204142.thumb.jpg.cb0a18f7ad2ae47b5ee6bd92780ccdf4.jpg

    20250625_192025.thumb.jpg.b14001497a07fd9705761393dc828e90.jpg

Fitted the two decks, and glued them on. Applied some weight and let it dry. Tomorrow will be a lot of filling and sanding.  After I install the forward and aft Bulwarks, the hull will be ready for painting. Then I will do a part two and get the Billings Boat ready to paint as well.

Both will be copper hull red, as like  @John Ruy did with his Bluenose.

I don't  know were PFCGP  is now, apparently he got arrested for being under the influence of alcohol in Texas 🤔.  He's not Canadian, come to think of it, I don't know what he is. But he is on a plane to somewhere and said find another Inspector  He will be hard to replace

    20250625_210635.thumb.jpg.28b9061b866e6dbd1b1e8635128ee27b.jpg

It is glued down for the night, and meet Freddie Fisherman, my new ships inspector,  my good freind @Gabek printed out this for me, he had a pipe but ,,Gabe had a bit of a problem with it and pipe never printed right,  internet files not his lol. Anyway I personally like the non smoking Freddie,  more on him later.

wow what a frist post lol.  Thanks .

  9. I just have to install the figurehead,  then tie up the Bowsprit  sail, the lines are run for it but not tied on. 20250622_164206.thumb.jpg.986d6f919d5f998203335bf0ce145007.jpg

Anchors  and flags are on and I just have to lash the ships  boat down . Add a few rope coils and  calling this boat  done.

    20250623_180017.thumb.jpg.fe1cea3f2ff14d7007bef0f3f9ef394e.jpg

I am starting  to think of my next build so many choices,  the First Mate says try and finish one that you started already  ,lol, what would be the fun in that.

Thanks so much for helping me along the way,  its a wonderful hobby to be in. What to do next, another sailing ship, a schooner or two, a train or a Swedish war ship  lol.

Happy to be part of the crew, rumor has it that   "Private First Class Gnomer Pile" is on his way back and should be able to start his old job of Ship Inspector.  :10_1_10:

Time will tell, so let's rap this one up ,take a few final pictures and put it in our Gallery.  Thanks so much.

  10. 20250622_160737.thumb.jpg.706ef7d84a0653ae81261b10077a7b62.jpg

All the rigging is finished, except the Bowsprit sail.20250622_160756.thumb.jpg.f40ad89cf3a3bcd61b08152f50e5d93d.jpg

Time to clean up ,next I  will add a few rope coils here and there as well as tie down the ships boat. Anchors are in the mix soon as well.

Sir Drake   likes the rigging,  but says I might have missed a few lines lol. 20250622_163151.thumb.jpg.48d3861e56bfce2df554a7288b85f8b6.jpg

so with that the Bowsprit is all that's left to rig, blocks are there just have to run the lines. After I get the figurehead installed.

Oh yes the ships boat and a few more crew members  glued ito place I am going to call it finished  soon.

I told myself  when I was done rigging the Golden  Hind I would build something first before  finishing rigging on the Astrolabe  1812. I really want to get back to the rigging of the Astrolabe,  so I plan to build  a Bluenose  Scientific  an a Billings  Bluenose  at the same time. Up until I get them to the rigging stage,  then I come back to the Astrolabe.

Thanks so much for popping in, likes are appreciated  lol.  Didn't get her done but put a good dent in her. Extras  at this point will help, well placed rope coils,  crew members  and Rum kegs and treasures .

    Knocklouder.

    20250622_163351.jpg

  11. Good luck on your journey,  the Duchess of Kingston is a wonderful ship to built, the quality of the material and the great instructions are hands down the best I have ever done. One peice of advice hide the knight figurehead until the last possible  second to install lol

Pulling up a chair as they say  hope you don't mined

    Bob  M.

  12. Did I every mention that I am having the time of my life  .

Slow start to the day but hey I am loving it.

This little  kit is nice to put together  and painting to was so much fun. However,  when it comes to rigging,  no blocks of any kind, I  put most of this kit together  by following their plan lol. I have not learnt anything in four years that plans may be WRONG lol.  Oh well.

One of the benefits of modeling is my reading skills have improved dramatically  but my understanding is lacking. Lol.

    20250621_113159.thumb.jpg.b3bcbfa88f7fd33fc3757561395a8130.jpg

starboard side is rigged  up to the Bowsprit mast, I decided to leave the  Bowsprit sail until after the figurehead is installed. That and I have to add some racks for tieing the Bowsprit rigging to the ship. Speaking of rack, Keith I don't think that would be historical correct,  lol. I will run it past my printer, but it's his birthday today and I don't want to bug him to much. He's at that age  you know , lol.

Anyway  let's flip this ship and rig the portside.  It would have been a  lot easier if I had tie all the blocks to the mast first, shaking syndrome,  and threading blocks  I am at that age you know. Lol.20250621_113513.thumb.jpg.93b56851699f33f55e747f7f1734a8d8.jpg

The port side still needs six single  blocks, but easy to reach.

Things are looking good for Sunday,  except the Bowsprit  sail,  small revisions are needed.

    Thanks for looking in,

    Bob M.

  13. Only 26 more lines to run then tie them all off, then anchors, ships boat, done lol.20250620_203214.thumb.jpg.91798c9a10aafdfdaedc86ac1895f500.jpg

I have been looking into the figurehead,  the kit come with no blocks, no figurehead

no ships boat, no thimble blocks , no heart blocks. I thank my God for my friend who is a wizard at printing things. I have to be careful what I say around  him because when he hears that I need something  he will print it lol. Here is the figurehead  he is working on. It wont be exactly like this and will be attached a bit different . I don't know where I got this picture but it is from a Golden Hind  build someway. I am only using the idea not exactly as shown. Messenger_creation_D5472E1F-9DDF-426F-9EC3-E0DC61FFA402.thumb.jpeg.a603671301b99bba406117bfba53258d.jpeg

    20250620_102454.thumb.jpg.caab6688dbaf0c027ea076e7d638c72e.jpg

plan is to file the bow flat, about half way through about. Once flat the figurehead will be pinned to it. Should work.

The body is slowly healing,  at 70 they say it takes longer to heal, lol I don't know about that because it seems something always hurts 😅 🙃

I got to spend a few hours today in the shipyard,  the weekend looks great for time in the yard, so a push to get'er done by Sunday night, we will see. There not much to do now that the 5th season is over lol. So I should get lots done. Talk to you Sunday.my friends  .

I will be building this Scientific Bluenose kit, it doesn't even have any maple leafs on it. I have a Billings Bluenose to do as well, no flag with the kit, but it shows an Ensign  on the Mizzen mast , no maple leaf either.

Good luck on your journey, joining you soon lol
