Hi Kevin, sometimes we can be too p.c. I agree with what rflosom has written, particularly regarding the history of what the swastika stood for during that time. Please keep going on with the build, and don’t remove it from MSW.

You have got off to a good start, I don't know this model, but will follow your build with interest. Model Ship World is a good sourse of information, and there are many talented members who will be able to advise you on your build. Good luck.

Good question Mick, and I had not thought of it that way, although I can understand why you feel that showing it off would be important, however the early photos are as the ship was at that time, and before the re-build. I have periods of weeks where I'm very clumsy with my hands, and very tired. The images recently put on the sight of A.V. taken back to the deck are about 4 months old, and there will be more to include. It has been a difficult time of recent, but I am in a slight remission with less numbness and pain (yes although it might appear strange, the two do go together). The decision to start again was taken was taken because I was not satisfied with what I'd done so far, knowing I could do better; there are still areas of the painting which are not as I want them, but you can only correct and re-correct once or twice before the problems looks worse. I've already lost some of the detail. But hey, I enjoy working on it and my intention is to re-build the lifeboats too! I will update the site again soon, and thanks for you kind comments.

Thanks Mick, when I started this build I was not aware there were such fantastic sites such as Model Ship World. Unless I've done something wrong, you should be able to find some of the earlier photos somewhere on the site. The build is going through a slow stage at the moment; problems with the correct messages being sent to and from my hands and arms are hampering the more detailed parts of the build.

Hi Mick, I saw a completed kit build in a hotel I was staying in at Falmouth earlier this year, and was tempted then to put it on my wish list. thanks to you, I'm hoping this will be the next model to build once I've completed the current build of Amerigo Vespucci; at the current rate I'll finish that in about a year. I'll look forward to following your log.

Hi Andrew, having been associated with the print industry in my past, I can safely say that the colour of a printed image is only a representation of the true colour. It can vary on each print run, the type of paper used, time etc. I would not worry too much about it as whatever you choose for your deck, it will change in time. The build is coming on well, I'm enjoying following it.

Hi Don, I look forward to viewing your build. Many years ago, a friend of mine had rigging plans for HMS Bounty. Sadly he is nolonger with us, but I wills ask his wife if she still has them.

Hi Freddie, think carefully about the stain you use, as it will be difficult to rectify if it is not right. I used a stain from my local DIY store, you might get a better choice. Thin it down and apply as many coats needed for the shade you are seeking, then put on a clear varnish of your choice. Or as already suggested, sand , then varnish. The build is looking good. Best wishes Richard

An extremely good build. Snake was the first ship I built, but she is not a patch on what you have been able to achieve. I will look forward to following your work, and perhaps it might inspire me to re-build parts of my attempt. Best wishes Richard

Mantua/Panarts Amerigo Vespucci Help!
Richard50 replied to ModelBoatMaker's topic in Wood ship model kits
Hi Pete, I'm currently building Amerigo Vespucci in the 1/84 scale. If the cost is to great in one go, take a look at Cornwall Model Boats and you'll it possible to buy the kit in sections. You can also download the instruction manuals free of charge, which I would suggest is essential. She is a big ship and quite a commitment. I'm about 18 months into the build and will update the log in the next few days. Good luck. Best wishes Richard
