Delightful work, Eric. She appears to have very large paddle wheels in comparison to our paddle boats over here! John

Things have been progressing quite well over the past week or two - mainly due to the accumulated pile of rough cut frames I had ready to start assembling. Progress will slow dramatically now though, as I have to start building more frames. John

The restoration is coming along very nicely, Michael. It's strange that the original builders rigged the cargo runners like that. The originals would, of course, have been steel wire (grey) and with the hooks up on deck, the runners would have been wound around the winch drums. In spite of the anomaly, I agree entirely with your decision to re-rig exactly as the original. John

Great to hear from you, Håkan! Thanks for the greetings, Piet and Denis. Christmas is over on this side of the world and I'm recovering from a surfeit of pudding. I hope you're enjoying your Christmas with your families. John

Quote, "No wonder we can't beat the All Blacks - we can't even beat the Poms!" Never mind Keith, you'll win the Ashes back next time when we're playing on your turning pitches. Marry Christmas, Pat. John

Thanks, Mark. Just as things start getting hectic for Christmas, some friends have arrived from the U.K. for a holiday and to catch the end of the Ashes Series (test cricket). It's all go at the moment! A very happy Christmas to you and yours! John

Very nice looking metal work, Pawel. John -
Thank you for all the kind support folks, and also to all who have pressed the 'like' button! Keith - as most of this work is done at the museum, the cutting is by a jeweller's hand saw and sandpaper sticks! John

It's been a long, long time between drinks, but at last there's something to show on the Meteor. We were away in England for a couple of months taking care of Pam's aging mother and then various life events have prevented much progress on the model, but at least some frames are now roughed out and I've actually erected the first few frames. The chocks between the frames are pretty rough, but they will be completely hidden on the finished model, so I haven't tried to make them absolutely accurate. My framing jig is of my usual 'Heath-Robinson' variety - I don't like spending more time than is necessary in building jigs - but it works - which is really all you can ask from a jig! Below are a few photos with three frames erected. John

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
