  1. Hello Galen, and a warm welcome to the forum from 'Down Under'. John
  2. Delightful work, Eric. She appears to have very large paddle wheels in comparison to our paddle boats over here! John
  3. Things have been progressing quite well over the past week or two - mainly due to the accumulated pile of rough cut frames I had ready to start assembling. Progress will slow dramatically now though, as I have to start building more frames. John
  4. Still looking absolutely first class, Danny! John
  5. The restoration is coming along very nicely, Michael. It's strange that the original builders rigged the cargo runners like that. The originals would, of course, have been steel wire (grey) and with the hooks up on deck, the runners would have been wound around the winch drums. In spite of the anomaly, I agree entirely with your decision to re-rig exactly as the original. John
  6. Hello Scipios, and a warm welcome to MSW from 'Down Under'. John
  7. Hello Jaan, and a warm welcome to the forum from 'Down Under'. John
  8. Great to hear from you, Håkan! Thanks for the greetings, Piet and Denis. Christmas is over on this side of the world and I'm recovering from a surfeit of pudding. I hope you're enjoying your Christmas with your families. John
  9. Hello StonCuld, and a warm welcome to the forum from 'Down Under'. John
  10. Hello Hugh, and a warm welcome to the forum from 'Down Under'. John
  11. Just catching up, Popeye - she's looking great in spite of your minor problems along the way! John
  12. Quote, "No wonder we can't beat the All Blacks - we can't even beat the Poms!" Never mind Keith, you'll win the Ashes back next time when we're playing on your turning pitches. Marry Christmas, Pat. John
  13. It's already been said Danny but - amazing work! John
  14. A warm welcome to the forum from 'Down Under', Randy. John
  15. Thanks, Mark. Just as things start getting hectic for Christmas, some friends have arrived from the U.K. for a holiday and to catch the end of the Ashes Series (test cricket). It's all go at the moment! A very happy Christmas to you and yours! John
  16. Hello Norman, and a warm welcome to MSW from 'Down Under'. John
  17. It might be a bit slower than machine catting, Michael - but it certainly works well! John
  18. Very nice looking metal work, Pawel. John
  19. She's coming along very nicely, mate! John
  20. Thank you for all the kind support folks, and also to all who have pressed the 'like' button! Keith - as most of this work is done at the museum, the cutting is by a jeweller's hand saw and sandpaper sticks! John
  21. Amazing that she's actually been found! John
  22. Beautiful work on the lifelines, Michael. Did you have any guidelines to help you? John
  23. It's been a long, long time between drinks, but at last there's something to show on the Meteor. We were away in England for a couple of months taking care of Pam's aging mother and then various life events have prevented much progress on the model, but at least some frames are now roughed out and I've actually erected the first few frames. The chocks between the frames are pretty rough, but they will be completely hidden on the finished model, so I haven't tried to make them absolutely accurate. My framing jig is of my usual 'Heath-Robinson' variety - I don't like spending more time than is necessary in building jigs - but it works - which is really all you can ask from a jig! Below are a few photos with three frames erected. John
