  1. Hello Kiran, and a warm welcome to MSW from 'Down Under'. John
  2. A warm welcome to the forum from 'Down Under', Ed. I hope you don't mind, but I've removed your email address from your first post. As Anja says, members can contact you by using the Private Message facility. John
  3. She really looks first class, Ken. At 1" to the foot, is it worth trying for labels on the extinguishers? John
  4. Mark, Ree's 'Naval Architecture' of 1819 and 'Hutchinson on Naval Architecture' (my copy is a reprint of the 1794 edition) may be of some use to you, but they are very light on illustration and have no illustrations of framing. Do you have a copy of Chapman's 'Architectura Navalis'? John
  5. I don't know about racing yachts, Keith, but it was quite common on commercial craft to have a sheave set into the middle of the spar to lead a stay around. John
  6. Good to see your 'Diana' still going ahead, Andy. She's looking first class. John
  7. Good to hear that your wife's health is heading in the right direction, Fred - agood to see an update on your model; she's coming along well. John
  8. A warm welcome to MSW from 'Down Under'. John
  9. You're right, Mark - she really is looking like a frigate now! Excellent job. John
  10. Hello Phil, and a warm welcome to the forum from 'Down Under'. John
  11. Denis, have a good look at the images on the Powerhouse Museum's site - they should give you a good overall view of what should be going on with the rigging. Also, can you get a copy of Harold Underhill's 'Masting and Rigging' via an inter-library loan (most local libraries can do this sort of thing). Underhill is the guru of late 19th century rigging. John
  12. Popeye, Under the tops you should have the trestle trees - running fore and aft on each side of the mast. These support the cross trees - running athwartships - which support the top. Please be very wary of your kit's rigging diagram and find a proper source for the rigging. Isn't this the kit that shows the fore and main mast braces running forward instead of aft?? John
  13. Looking good, Popeye! Just a word of warning. It's about time to study your rigging plan very carefully (if you haven't done so already) to make sure that there are no rigging points you need to include early. For instance, some ships of the period had the forestay secured on the main deck under the forecastle! John
  14. Love it, mate! I'm going to be a bit sad when it's all finished. John
  15. Obviously the pictures don't want to get wet on their way over to Oz! John
  16. Hello, George, and a warm welcome to MSW from 'Down Under'. John
  17. Hello, and a warm welcome to the forum from 'Down Under'. John
  18. Looks like very interesting project, John. I'm looking forward to seeing it develop. John
  19. For some reason, half of your photos don't show on my screen, but I can still see enough to admire what you're doing, Popeye. That hull will clean up really nicely. John
