Is this like lost wax casting where the original is destroyed or can you use the original for several castings?

I was wondering how you were going to finish those 3D figures in a realistic manner. Using them as masters for the wood colored resin makes perfect sense. 3D printing sure has come a long way. Is this kind of resolution possible on a home printer or is Chris's 3D printer some super commercial brand?

Nice job Kevin. Preac makes a fence thats1/2" tall. If you can find one it makes cutting mortises a lot easier.

Maybe an optical illusion but the first gunport (not the bridle port) looks a bit short.

Well done Stuglo! We watched your skill and confidence grow during the construction of this model and the result is someone that you should be very proud of.  Look forward to your next build.

    Hi All

I've now made the hinges and the lock for the pump well doors.  I made them out of 0.25mm brass sheet, 0.5mm brass rod and 1mm brass tubing.
They are attached using 0.6mm nails as I already had these in stock and didn't want to buy any more.  Here's a few pictures - I really like the one looking inside the well!

    Cheers Mark

I've started on the head gratings. A few of these battens are quite small, yet none of them managed to fly off into nowhere land. All of the joints needed a bit of wood filler before painting. I added the first coat of black paint of which more are sure to come.

Wow that is just awesome mate - I've been following your build step by step for quite some time now and its been inspiring for me.

Your finished ship looks beautiful and worth every minute that you've put into it.  Really good luck with the Bismarck but I suspect it will be a walk in the park compared to your Swan.

Thank you guys for very nice comments. Preparing to make these blocks was quite a challenge for me. But the result exceeded all my expectations. Uncritically, I have to admit that I myself am very satisfied with the result..
To Hsae - The blocks are made with a CNC milling machine, not from Proxxon, but a commonly available Chinese milling machine. The material for the blocks is pear.
The construction of the model moved to the next stage - rigging. I start by attaching the bowsprit.

no rest here, I’m right back on guns and rigging away. Problem is I took too long of a break from them and I’m trying to find my way back. Been making some adjustments but I think I’ll be back on track soon. 8 to go then I can start chapter 8… the remaining 4 guns in the waist, well they can wait until chapter 12 lol!

    Plodding on with the bulwarks
I realised when I reached the bow that I still hadn't fitted the bollards, so the two I'd decided were the best of many I'd made were duly glued into place
I'm not too bothered about the glue stains on the lower two planks as there is the second layer to fit.
Still have to do it all again on the opposite side.
Thank you all for your comments, visiting and the thumbs up.
    Cheers

Some progress has been made though most of it is preparation work.

I did put the hinge pins on the remaining gunport lids and installed them.

I then worked on the channels, sanding the char and gluing the layers as Chuck described. I too used the Scotch spray adhesive on them.
After they were dry, I also put on a coat of wipe on poly.

Next I assembled the 5mm deadeyes from Syren, sanded them and dyed them dark brown. Also here are the acrylic strops, chainplates and straps. I have to lightly sand them with 400 grit and then apply some weathering power.

Once I assemble and finish the 6 mm deadeyes, I'll start placing the channels and deadeyes on the Winnie.

Continuation: Making the yards - Topgallant yards - Vergue de perroquet
After the topsail yards, we continued with the making of the topgallant yards.
Here is a quick look at my workplace with the most important utensils for making the yards:

The diameters of the topgallant yards, especially in the outer sections, range around 1.6 mm. In this respect, it is not surprising, if you work without a steady rest, that it can sometimes come to breakage.

At the latest when working on the yardarms, it is advisable to support the filigree yards with a steady rest.

The next picture shows the finishing of the octagon in the center of the yard.

The last picture should give an impression of how filigree the topgallant yards are compared to the lower yards. It shows the yardarms of the main yard compared to the mizzen topgallant yard. The octagon of the yardarm of the mizzen topgallant yard still has a width of 1.3 mm at the outer end.

Of course, the royal yards can be made even thinner and more filigree. Especially the octagonal shaping at the yardarms requires special care.
    To be continued ...

Well, we all seem to suffer from more or less from the same problem: the narrative I hear from time to time goes "why don't you do something useful with your fancy tools, such as making jewellery?"

While I am quite capable of repairing things around the house (and do it, given enough urgency and inconvenience  ), I prefer the creative aspect of 'making' things over 'fixing' things ...
