Matching the planks where they come together, usually at the bow, is always the hardest part of planking for me. But you're doing a superb job of it. Bob

Welcome back Patrick. Even as a bare boat straight from the factory she looks great. I can't wait to see her dressed up. Bob

For years the word used for the line where the planks meet the keel has been called the rabbit line. Recently I have been seeing it called the rebate. So I looked it up to see if I was wrong all these years. Here is what I found. The line where the planks meet the keel is the rabbit line. The groove that is cut on that line is the rebate. Thought there might be others that would like to know. Bob

OK! Here we go. After much effort I have things fixed enough that I can put up pictures. Here is where she is at present. Hull made, floor in and deck on. Yes, I should have painted the hull before I put on the deck. As many times as I have done this you think I would learn. This is where I hope to be going with this. Painted hull and polished wood for the cabin. More to come later. Hopefully on the other boat. Bob

Hi Friends, I have been building and I would like to show the pictures but my computer is screwed up. A friend on face book told me about an anti-virus program that she and several others said was great, so I down loaded Scan Guard. My camera was set up to send pictures to my computer. After installing the program the camera could no longer find the computer but I could move the memory chip to transfer the pictures. Also clicking on hypertext in word would no longer go to the web. That was a nascence so I went on the web to find a solution. One of the suggestions was to run a program by Microsoft that was supposed to fix programs. That moved every icon on my wallpaper and now when I put in the camera memory chip it says the chip needs to be formatted. When I figure out how to get everything back the pictures will come. In the mean time I have made one hull and put the under deck on it. This boat I plan to paint. The other will be in a natural wood finish. I was thinking of cherry but I need a new saw blade for that. I do have mahogany but it is darker than I had envisioned. So we will have to see how that goes. That’s about all I have for now. Bob

This all reminds me of when My cousin, 10 years old at that time, was learning to crochet. She took it to show her mother and was pointing out all her errors. Her mother said, "Don't tell me. If I don't know where they are I don't see them and your blanket look lovely." Bob

fine deck and conveyer detail. But do you need a table for the man with the knife that Nils mentioned or are the fish sent to the hold whole? Bob

Michael, looks like you have a winner. Well done. Bob

I ran into the same thing on the Pequot. There was a deck that the sailors had to get to but in the drawings and all the pictures I could not find any means of access. I think the little ladder you add looks fine. Bob

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
