Julie, you're right. Where's the fun in having things easy? I know that if there was no challenge, I'd move on to some other hobby. Bob
-
That would be great. You show me yours and I'll show you mine - the Pequot that is. Bob

Can i live without a BYRNES TABLE SAW
captainbob replied to shihawk's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
Back in may of 2013 there was a fine thread on thin cuts being made with full sized TS's. http://modelshipworld.com/index.php/topic/932-cutting-thin-slices-of-wood/?hl=mott#entry19698 Bob -
She has how many decks? And each one lifts out by it's self? And . . . And . . . What a wonderful build we get to follow. Bob

Thanks for showing this build. I keep being fascinated by the differences between the narrow Heroine and the later boats. Bob

Your work is beautiful, as always. It looks like the upper stanchions spacing and lower stanchions spacing is not the same. Do you have anything that shows what the spacing is? Bob

When doing normal (horizontal) planking we need to modify the width of the plank to make it mate with the already mounted plank. It looks like diagonal planking has the same problem. Bob

Julie, I've never used hide glue, but I remember in an article I read years ago about repairing stringed instruments they said to work a hot thin spatula into the glue between the two pieces of wood. I went so far as to get a thin pallet knife from an art store and then decided the interment was not worth repairing. Bob

Thanks Nils. I still have a lot to learn about the process, but I'm sure I will use it again for other things. Yes Julie, you caught me, If you look closely I did not show the bottom of the little boats because they still do not have props. I think I can, I thin . . . Bob

Ah the hazards of the artist. Build it. take it apart. Rebuild it. Uh. Rebuild again. Is it good enough this time? Uuuhhh. When you finally say that's done, I'm sure that both the boat and the house will be beautiful. Bob

Thank you all for looking in and telling me that you like how the Pequot is coming along. Nils, yes these are the electroformed vents I made. Glad there weren't hundreds like you just made. I'm glad you all like the details. I always feel it is the detailing that makes the viewer say, "Wow". Bob

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
