I like the contrasts. Maybe a thin kick plate to cover the ding. I know it's probably not 'authentic'. Or maybe some filler given some light stain coat(s)?

Came to the same conclusion on mine a while back so I have several size dowels to consider. But first I have to get there!

Hey Augie. Thanks.
My son actually likes the nick. He thinks it makes the door look like a 'real door'.
Anyway, I really hope you're feeling well and had a Happy Birthday.
Cheers.

thanks gratefully........i'll post an occasional where i'm at, but it will probably take a longer time in between....they should call ALL these sailing ships dreadnoughts, like i dread tying noughts on all those ratlines, as i'd rather nought...but i can't cheat and glue of course.....
oh....another thing....i noticed too late that the inverted knees on the channels are tapered at the bottom....didn't think one could laser cut on an angle.....may put a tiny bit of fill there....if i sanded them down i thought they would be too thin....but of course, that's what i should have done .....like i said i reveal my errors to help a new builder.......and embarrass myself in the process ha ha...

Good evening
Work on the Bissi has restarted but have moved out of my mancave for now into the conservatory- at least i am able to do some boat building, better than not being able to do anything, I apologise to anyone how does not have a proper workspace
This is why I have to re-site for now - meet Dobbie (now 13 weeks old) Cocker spaniel,
it is impossible to let him into the mancave, it was never designed around a hyper active pup, and it is all set up around the Victory in the rigging stage
Did quite a lot on the main armament and PE work on all the ships boats, the longest part was working out where I have left off
The hull needs the be touched up around the boot line,

Been really bad filing progress, The hull is basically finished. I am finishing up the stern fittings then onto the Ship interior. I really struggled with the windows . I finally developed a method to install them properly. I also had problems with the drops on the quarter galleries. The drop castings are terrible and don't fit the laser cut pieces designed for them, I have genuinely enjoyed building this kit. Chucks kit is beautifully designed and the instructions are clear.
Pics soon

"UP DATE TIME"......... I just finishd up the main mast rigging and put the name on the stern''''
looks like I got all of the ropes tied off to where they're supposed to be,if not I can always say the Capt. is trying out a new belaying plan. No major problems were encountered on this journey, (again, thanks to Dirks excellent build) The mizzen will be next, then I'll add the jib sails....... I still need to add ropes to the cleats and belaying pins, but that will be the last thing I do along with the oars, and the rope railing.
Thanks for look'n in!!
Frank
Thanks again for look'n in.......

Syren was my 4th wooden kit. But, in all fairness, the first was a solid hull some 30 years ago, the second a cross section 20 years ago and the third a 1:36 scale tug that, although plank on frame, lacked a lot of detail.......probably like your French trawler. Syren was a whole new ball game but, thanks to lots of help/prodding by folks here on MSW, she came out well enough to proudly display in my home. She taught me a LOT. Could I do a better job now? A resounding yes. But isn't that what it's all about ...... improving from one model to the next?
The 1:64 scale is certainly doable and allows a little more detail than say a 1:96. But you're already used to working at small scale. It's a great place to start ..... and Chuck Passaro's instructions will guide you every step of the way. And having him here on MSW, keeping a watchful eye, is a real bonus.

Nice work Dave and am happy that you are doing okay. Question I like the look of hard maple but have never planked with it. How pliable is it or is it on the brittle side?

Hi Tony, yeah, she's getting real busy and crowded. I'm currently working on the Upper Topsail Yard and wondering how all of this is going to fit inside her...lol. Still pondering the scratch, not sure what I'm going to do yet....still got time to think about it.
Thanks for dropping in BE, nice to see you here. She is a working boat for sure, glad you like the effect.

OK, today I managed to finish the remaining whaleboats. They are sitting on the boat bearers for photographs only. These little buggers were a lot of work but lots of fun. Repetitious, but each a model in their own. All details are explained and photographed on my website for those following along. This completes BUILD LOG V on the site. Off to finish the running rigging...the end is in sight...wow!

Finished another whaleboat. Both are just sitting in position but not lashed yet. won't tie em down until I finish the Running Rigging.

If you go to the Syren page on Model Expo's site, you can see the instructions written by Chuck under the "Documents" tab, and read through them for yourself. They are superior to most other instructions out there. If you start a build log on this site, the combination of excellent instructions and the actual kit designer's oversight will give you a huge boost on tackling a higher skill level build. Sorry if I seem partial!!
