Thanks Robert and Grant.  Your good wishes are a shot in the arm.

Now, as for SJORS.  You, sir, are photo-happy.  You want pictures of everything!  If I say I had ham and eggs for breakfast can't you just believe me and not ask for a picture of the dirty plate?????????  You need to understand that, at the height of the conflagration, so much steam filled the room (from coming out of my ears) that photo documentation was all but impossible.

These things are bound to happen when you have a lot of rigging to do, love the fix!
I think I have made more mistakes on the Confeds stern than you have made on your entire rigging :-)

WOW Augie!   glad you were able to put her to right!  sad to hear you had to do some back peddling there!  look at it this way.....at least she didn't hit the floor {perish the thought}.......but your back on track now,  and that's all that counts!  great save!

Wow... Impressive. She really looks like a working ship. Any thoughts on how you're going to display her?

Welcome to the club, Augie. Frustrating, but kind of satisfying to know that you can make it right again. Great job.

I know nothing of the terminology of the 13th Century.  But I do know this ---- she is blooming into a wonderful looking and unique vessel.

I am particularly fascinated with your use of maple for the deck.  Your craftsmanship here is outstanding!

    Hi Guys,

Thanks for the welcome and your kind words.

I dont have much to show at the moment, progress has been a bit slow, still working on the first planking, only another 35 planks to fit, it makes me realise just how small my other builds have been.

Someone once said on the forum that we all look back on our first builds with a more critical eye when we gain in experience, how true that is. I have been looking at my Brig Badger and boy can I see what mistakes there are, almost to the point where I am seriously considering re-doing parts of her, mainly the Main Mast which is a bit bent forward, still thats for the future.

I started to cut out the gunports on the starboard side but called a halt due to the wood (Lime) starting to split, the reason is because I should have finished the planking first, given it a coat of diluted PVA and left it to dry. One thing I did learn is to pack the sides to stop any movement, lessen learnt.

I will be working to complete the 1st planking, cutting the portside gunports and lining them, so that will be my next set of pics which hopefully not be too long.

So, sorry I dont have any pics at the moment but rest assured I will be working towards it.

Well Larry, if we all followed common sense then we wouldn't be nuts about model ships to begin with.

Nice job on the headrails.  You even put in the 'dreaded headon shot'.  Nice work.

I couldn't scribe those headrails ---- my neurosurgery license had expired.

Nice cutting of the curves on the deck beams.  In my yard, brute force and superstition would have been used to bend them into submisssion  .

I'm not going to ask if the stove works.

The great thing about this log is that, after almost 2 years on MSW, I'm beginning to see how things should be done.  That's not to say I could actually DO them.

I had to sleep on it to figure out the checkered floor.  I finally 'got it'.  That one photo peering through the quarter gallery and seeing that floor is .......priceless!  I've only actually seen that once on a ship and it was HMS Victory when I walked her decks in '79.

Glad my Syren doesn't need that.  I'd be stuck going to Home Depot and trying to find 1:64 vinyl tiles

    REALLY well done and presented.

OK, we've played this tune before on the main mast but now we've moved forward!  In spite of Sjors recent allegations, I did not 'forget' to rig the foremast.

The upper foremast shrouds, shear strips/futtocks, cleats, sister blocks and catharpins are complete.  Even better, the last of the ratlines have been tied.  I am stuck as to which title to bestow upon myself........'King of the Clove Hitch' or Edward Tweezerhands.    Anja can now return!!!!

We shall now be moving on to the more sweeping aspects of the forward standing rigging.  Looking forward to seeing the bowsprit once again

Frank, we need to get a move on those sails. There have been idle threats with cannons loaded with cotton balls. I'm just sayin'....

Having a ship at the stage yours is at is great no matter how long you take to finish because she is already a mantle piece. I'm sure you must often poke your head into the room she is docked from time to time and just enjoy the view.

I have never seen anything like your caulking method before.  Talk about going over to the 'dark side' !  But the finished result is stunning.

It takes a brave man to post that low-level, full length deck shot.  Very precise work.
