    Hi Popeye,
I found a saw blade for my x-actor handle but to the teeth were too course and ripped the wood. I hope to find another saw blade with more TPI. I recall having one many years ago, but recent searches have been unsuccessful. YES! You do need another beer and in effort to help you I'll drink one (or maybe two) all in the unselfish interest of helping one of the Niagara club members!

    Hi Rich,

I started out mounting planks the entire length, but eventually realized I was torturing myself doing this. Since most of the runs were eventually cut for the gun ports, a little voice in my head told me I could cut the planks into three or four more manageable lengths providing the ends terminated over a gunport. The dremel really helps save sanding time, but one slip and  what did I do!

what I have on my desk top is this....

here's what I'm going to try and get it to look like......I'm not going to be able to do all the lines,  but it's kind of a goal.   I did a bit of rigging earlier in the build.....per the plans,  and I din't like it

this is not tied to an eye bolt.....they start from holes drilled into the stem......so I did.

this hurt me a lot more than the model........if I botch this up,  I'll have a very nasty bow.  the bottom pair of bobstays {I think that's what they are called} are in place ......there are two more on the sides

I guess this would be as good a time as any to post yesterday's progress.   not too much progress today though.......errand day.   with my son working now,  I have to accompany the admiral on the ones that require lifting.  even with her disability,  she still enjoys getting out and about......I'm not about to stop her from doing so.

here are just some random pictures of the crosstree dead eyes.  I did find out that there is no crosstree on the mizzen mast.

I did manage to get all six dead eyes on the main top.   now to bend all the wires into eyelets,  and paint

    Russ: Thank-you very much!

Steve: (Sigh)........It's no use, you might as well give up.   I figured the carved fingers would substantiate my story...seems to have worked.
The colour I used for the fingers? - Fleshtone of course!

    John: Thank-you very much!

Anja: Thank-you very much as well! It really was fun.

Sjors: Believe it! I know Steve doesn't, but not you too!!
Oh....I am planning to make barrels, not rats though - not on my ship! ....................Wait.....maybe for the ratlines!

Andy: Thank-you! I think a POF build would be a definite step up in difficulty level and a much longer timeline for the build. Unfortunately I'm not sure I would have the patience...I love each step of the build, but I can't wait to see the end product.

Grant: Thank-you! I've heard somewhere that there is a certain "caveman" around here, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that his rug isn't that old!

Popeye: Thank-you! Doris????     If I could reach her level of skill that would be amazing! I think it will take a little work yet, but thanks for the thought!

Bob: Thank-you! My ship wasn't going to have a cabin like that....it just seemed to happen.

Mark: Thank-you! As for the miniature craftsmen...I'll go look in my "magical" garden...apparently that's where they live!   Imagine what a business that could be....selling, packaging and shipping little families of tiny workers around the world! Just had an idea....maybe Augie could transport them on one of his planes.

Frank: Thank-you! You call the rug idea clever, I call it desperate resourcefulness!   I needed a tiny rug and haven't the ability to weave one so.......very thankful for printers.

The most tricky part so far, the boarding pikes holders:

First glueing two rings atop of each other, the needles making sure, that the holes of the upper ring will be lined properly ...

... while the one on the bottom has pocket holes.

Then putting both rings over the mast ...

... and cutting the same amount of holes on both rings away until the diameter fits properly. Taking a pike and sorting out the heights for that the beautiful point of the spear does not disappear in the ring. Then glueing first the inside of the upper ring onto the rubbing pouch and let dry well. Afterwards bend into place and fix it on the other side and in the back.

Use one pike for the alinement of the two rings and fix the bottom ring also in two steps. Then take out the pike and bend carefully straight and horizontal and glue it to its final position ...

... and fill with the boarding pikes.

With a tad of color and rope it could look like this :-)

As I always moan about the Prince of Wales´ feathers, it is time to sratch them off and replace them by a cute five piece crown - a pure dafinistique hypothesis :-) ...

... and fix some more stable lamp holders.

    Amicalement, Daniel

Matt missed you on the last post sorry about that.

Daniel, John, Russ, and Druxey, thanks for all you kind words, at the rate I'm going I sometimes wonder when it will get to the lake.

Today I managed to get enough time in to make a double block with a Becket. The sheaves are .375 diameter and the axle is .062, the brass is .125 x .031
I remembered a quote that one should treat every part as model in itself and this seems to work well for me.

Machined up a block of Degame (lemon-wood)

Did a lot of sanding and finishing with some fine steel wool. Made a pin for the Becket. the ring is .011 music wire.

Set it up on the mast with the other double block to see how it looks for the Gaff up-haul, I just used the weight from the ropewalk to give some body to the rope. I must finish those seizings on the shrouds.

The blocks work well together, this is a lot of fun, I need to get on and finish the gaff now, and of course there will be a few more blocks but the next few will be singles.

    Hi Guys,

Thanks for looking in and the good words and encouragement given, it does really help.

A quick progress on the coppering, IT'S FINISHED, the port side took me about 25hrs to do with a few fopars along the way.

The last couple of days have been almost a nightmare for me, I've had the droppsies which, when you think about it doesn't seem so bad, a bit frustrating perhaps, but I'm talking blades here, I have picked up a few cuts along the way, nothing serious, some I didn't know I had, a bit scary though when you see a craft knife falling and heading for the bulbous belly, this happened a few times, picked up a few puncture wounds with that.

Tweezers with very sharp points sticking in the palms of my hands, my thoughts at that time were similar to " blast that really shouldn't be happening ".

The final straw was the Aggy falling from it's foam matt onto the floor, not too much damage though, just a little crushing of the stern post and a few popped plates, the stern post just needed to be trimmed and the plates stuck back on.

I had to pull a few plates of the bow as they were not following the correct line, the old glue then had to be scrapped of and the plates replaced.

The rest was pretty well straight forward with no major problems.

I have learned one lesson though, when I next plate a ship I will be overlapping slightly, Caldercraft plates have rounded corners and as you can imagine these leave an unsightly gap.

OK I have a few pics.

The offending area that needed stripping and replating

    Stern view.

    Portside view

Now the fun begins, cutting in the waterline

    More cutting in

    The finish

So there we have it, all done.

Next step is to place the rest of the trim on and complete painting her.

    mobbsie
