popeye the sailor got a reaction from dgbot in Gothenborg by Popeye the sailor - Billing Boats - 1:100 scale
5 - 17 - 2011
this was done in two parts......the deck planking, and the stern. first the deck planking.
I plan on adding a rack where the ship's boats are to be located. the pictures I have show a very elaborate rack on the deck. this area will be left blank. there will be a front and rear stanchion, a central platform, and lockers bordering the port and starboard sides.
I used crayon to simulate the calking. it will be sanded lightly afterwards and given a couple coats of clear lacquer. no stain.
the deck was trimmed after the planking was laid.

thanks Runner63.....nice to have you looking in
thanks Ferit.....Eric has sent me many pictures during the time he's worked on her. I also received pictures from two other members as well.....so I am well armed.....visually. there are a few aspects that differ from the actual ship....if I had seen them, I might have corrected them. now they are too buried in the build to even try. but I will carry on with the build and complete it the way it is. I do hope you follow along.

Michael,
Saw that first picture of the cutter on the floor and My mind saw it as a 1:48 scale and I thought 'What a great diorama of a work shop with miniature power tools.'

Well then, I guess the first order of business as admiral, is to make sure more progress is made on the San Felipe (Phil).

At least you gave it a try. Most of the guys in my club look at what I do and say. "Better you than me."
Well I got the cannons done and I still had bit of sanity left so I added some hatches and a capstan. Now that my sanity is totally shot I'll call it a day.

Popeye,
You started this! I'm just trying to keep up! What would they have had in 1900? Coffee mugs OK, but certainly not a plug-in coffee pot.

According to the book but also from other sources, beneath the seats of the oarsmen, there were removable balks.
These balks were used to step on them while they were rowing, taking some help to this effort.
So I had to build them….
Thanks

popeye the sailor reacted to Piet in Hr. Ms. O 19 1938 by Piet - FINISHED - scale 1:50 - submarine of the Royal Navy Netherlands in service 1939 - 1945
Hello all,
Well, I drew up a bunch of frames for the deck structure and cut them out and glued them to a 1/4 inch poplar board. Then I proceeded to cut them all out and started to final fit them to the hull.
I also thank Freek for Fred Huygen's website and I was able to get in touch with him. I asked him if he has any drawings for the little dingy and lo and behold he just happen to have the lines drawings and the measurements. Now it's just a matter of translating all that in a wooden model. That in itself will be a challenge because of the size, tiny.
Okay, here are two pics of the hull with most of the deck frames temporarily placed on top of the hull at their proper locations. I need to make about a dozen more though. So far it's looking okay.
The deck frame bulkheads are temporarily placed on top of the hull looking from the stern.
The deck frame bulkheads are temporarily placed on top of the hull looking from the bow.
That piece of wood between the steel angle and the hull is place the hull at right angles to the build board.
Cheers,

I've made a little more progress:
The window frames are a real challenge. The ship probably only had a voice tube down to the engine spaces, which are right below the pilot house, but the EOT looks more dramatic. I'm still trying to figure out how to make the handle/indicator for it. The barrel is 5 mm across and 2 mm radius. And the face was an example of a successful operation where the patient died. I got a picture of an EOT off the internet and reduced it to my size, so it's all there, you just can't read it!

That's a nice plane Keith. Essex might be out in June. I hear they have over 100 pre-orders. I won't be rolling the next one in until Fall anyhow.....the usual summer activities and then Europe for a month +/-. Too busy!
Meanwhile it's back to my 'Block Party'. Where the heck did that 1/8" double go?
