I think it is fascinating the way artist can take a plastic kit and with the use of a brush and airbrush turn it into a work of art. It's very interesting to see how some modelers remove part of the fuselage, wing, etc... and proceed to build engines, guns, etc... that are not included with the kit by using their own hands and materials.  WWW II aircraft are a great subject to pursue since there are so many designs from various companies you can spend nearly a lifetime trying to construct them all. Keep up the great work.

Here is my 1/48 Polikarpov I-16 Type 24 from Eduard. It is built out of the box and painted with MRP paints. I hope you like it even if the photos is little bit dark

Here is my finished 1/48 Tamiya Fw190 D9. It is built straight from the box and painted with MRP and AK Extrem metal colors. Weathering is done with Flory wash and oils. The decals is from Eduards Fw190 D9 kit.

    Hi all
Here is photos of my 1/48 Tamiya Kawasaki Ki 61.
Colors are: AK extreme metals, MRP:s and Flory brown wash

The camouflage is added with freehand from Harder Stenbeck Infinity with 0.2 nozzle. This was done on directly on the AK extreme metal without any protection. Seems to work fine.
If I was to do the kit again so should I paint the blue and yellow strips instead of using the kits decals. They where rather thick.

    Hi all

I don't do any build logs on my plastic kits but I thought it could be nice to share them with you anyway. I will just post the pictures here if it is ok for you. I jsut add new when I have done them.

This is my first aircraft model in many year. It's far from perfect but I have learnt very much since I started to see Phil´s videos on Flory Models.

    Model: 1/32 Trumpeter P40 B
Extras: Cutting Edge decals and Eduard cockpit set.
Colours: Vallejo Model Air (DuPont brown, DuPont green and DuPont light grey).

    Hello,
I got some gun work done tonight.  I have to build 7 of these goodies:

This is the fret with some of the gun parts:

These are the parts for just one of these:

This is the finished gun before placing the armor dome over it:

Tomorrow I will place the covers on the guns and promptly cover all that gorgeous detail and work!

This is synopsis of steps bringing the Alaska project to a finish.
Small parts, both plastic and PE abound

Black fine E Z Line was attached to a small plastic rod and inserted into the flag bags then run to the

PE work from the kit, Infini,  & White Ensign was time consuming but worth the effort.

Alaska was heavily armed with a main battery of nine 12" guns, secondary battery of 12 5" DP guns and an extensive array
of 20mm Orlikon single mounts and 40mm Bofors quads. Her main mission was AA cover for the carrier groups. The main
and secondary batteries have brass barrels by B&D. The blast bags were formed with Tamiya putty. The 5" mounts did not have
blast shields as shown in the instructions. The sliding hatches on the main battery turrets were relieved as shown closed.

My aviation background wouldn't let me finish the Curtiss Seahawks with such gross shaped wings & tail
surfaces so they were reshaped and various colors tried to get an acceptable shade of blue.

Small progress on the battery compartment with a spin....

The batteries on the Type VIIc were connected in series/parallel to obtain up to 110 Volts DC:

Below is a schematic of the Batteries wiring. In this module, we are talking about Battery #2 (Battery #1 is located towards the stern of the boat). The switches are in the large electric frames sitting above the electric motors (see previous module for details).

Depending of the type of accumulators, there could be 5 or 6 parallel connections between the cells, as shown in the following pictures:

The cells provided by Trumpeter are slightly over sized and as such we can only represent 4 rows instead of 6 that were available on the prototype (the fourth row has been omitted to allow a peek into the  compartment. Note that a detailed PE set could have been made to represent the connections bars between the cells. That would have been quite impressive.... to build and to display.
These cells required a lot of maintenance (we are in 1939-40) and did not perform as well and as reliably as modern car batteries. A sliding platform was designed to allow a brave sailor to glide over the cells and keep them in good shape, by checking their electrolytes and cleaning any sulfate deposits on the connections:

Let's keep in mind that the voltages could reach 110V DC with a total current capacity of 10,000 Amps. Touching the electrodes and connections was fatal in most cases as DC current burns irremediably. On my module, I tried to represent this interesting (although painful and tedious) aspect of the life aboard:

The fellow uses the rope on his right side to move along the banks of cells. As you can see from the Trumpeter assembly plan, this is a little bit more involved and prototypical. It is always fun to try to improve on an existing kit.

    Hello all,
It's been spooky quiet today. Only tiny aftershocks that at this distance you can't feel them at all.  But every time you hear something crack or squeak, you stop to feel. Not fun.
Anyway, tonight I worked on the guns.  The big ones. Although there are only 4 on the ship, because of the dual frets, you get 6.  Which is a waste.  The blast bags are resin.  I decided to give the barrels the "heat" treatment like I did the smokestacks.  In the pictures they are very exaggerated in colors. They are much more subtle in person. Not nearly as purple as they look in the pics. Same goes for the funnels.  They just look way too colorful. Each one of the 4 guns is different in what parts are on them.  The one I I finished has the most parts.  Hope you like.
