    Well done.
    But noncommittal comments.
If these are the rigging instructions from revell, then they are wrong.
Have a look at the attached photos.

    Robert,

Great work on your English Galion, looks fabulous. If I may suggest a change on your next ship, Standing rigging is either in Dark Brown or Black, such as the Shrouds and Ratlines. Otherwise my hat is off to you doing your own Ratlines!

    Backer,

What is the name of the book and the author in these pictures? I would love to find it for future projects.

  2. My wife bought me a Fujimi 1/350 IJN Fuso for Christmas from eBay. When I finally had a chance to inventory it, months later,  I found that the hull pieces were for the Kongo and not the Fuso. After trying to contact the seller, which I got no response, I tried contacting the Fujimi company to see if I could purchase the correct hull pieces. No response from three emails.

So, I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on how I can get the correct hull pieces?

    Thanks in advance,

    Steve

  3. Mike,

I have the same ship in my stash and one of these days I'll actually get to it. The one thing I do not like about the kit is the capstan the actually surrounds the main mast. I plan on junking it and scratching my own. Otherwise, it is a cool kit. I have built a couple of Zvezda/Revell ships and the molding is really nicely done. Have fun on it.

  4. Dan,

Nicely done sir! I know your little plastic bug held up as well if not better than some of those woodies.

I noticed in the background of your 4th picture a Mataro Ship model. It just so happens that I am building an Imai Catalan Ship at this time. If you want to check it out at FSM, the link is:

  5. Dang Greg, the detail work you are doing is exquisite! Beautiful work my friend.

Regarding Eduard, that was some customer service you received.....NOT! I have always had great luck with their products, but man, they should have happily returned your money in the interest of good customer service.

  6. Kevin,

If I had choose between those two sets, then I would go with the Pontos set. That being said, both of those sets are really delicate and you need a very light hand when working with them. The wood deck is nice, but the Revell kit already has a one piece deck, so the wood deck is redundant if you can paint a convincing deck.

I have the Eduard sets for my Revell 1/350 Tirpitz and I am happy with them. I agree with Greg though, check out online reviews before you purchase anything, because both of those PE sets are expensive.

    Hope this helps,

    Steve

Edit: another thing you should know is that Pontos and Lions Roar instructions are somewhat difficult to follow and not complete. You will need to do your research in regards to the placement of parts. I prefer Eduard's instruction but if you know your ship then you'll be able to figure out where things go.

  7. Pat,

She is looking good so far. I love this kit even if it is one of Revell's oldest ship molds from the 1950's. My oldest son and I built this for a 2nd grade project a couple of years ago and it was amazing how much the other kids were excited about it when he brought it to school.

Anyway, have fun with it! That 's why we build these things, isn't it?.......

I love what you have done so far. I have this kit in my stash with the Griffon PE set and metal torpedos. Looking forward to seeing more. I have drilled out the hull holes so far and added styrene tubbing behind it to give them some depth. I have not been working on it lately since have a number of models ahead in the queu.

  9. Kp,

I will definitely be following your build log. I have two 1/96 Thermopylae models in my stash waiting patiently for their turn. I bought the second one as a backup/parts kit. I am planning on starting my 1/96 Cutty Sark after the New Year. I found out the Mrs. Santa bought me the Scale Decks wood deck for Christmas..... I must have been a good boy this year!

I also saw your thread over on FSM and was wondering if your are planning on painting the hull a darker green? I look forward to your next post. By the way, I found and bought a set of new decals on evilBay recently and they are great. Not sure if they have any for the Thermopylae but I will check it out and let you know if you would like.

  10. J,

You can also pick up the Santa Maria and Cutty Sark by Revell, as well as all three of Columbus' ships by Heller. There are also a number of other Heller plastic sailing ships, real and otherwise that can be found on evilBay.

I can also give you a piece of advice that Professor Tilley gave me when I came back to modeling. Purchase something fairly simple in terms of rigging and fairly large scale. That way you can finish it and have a sense of accomplishment instead of getting bogged down on one of the larger Revell or Heller kits that tend never to get finished..... i.e., The 1/96 Constitution and Cutty Sark or the Victory and Soleil Royal.

My first model after a 40 year hiatus was the Revell 1/70 Viking Ship, I know it is out of your time period request but it is a great little model. I also built the Zvezda/Revell Hanse Kogge after that and it is another nice kit to cut your teeth on.

    Hope this helps,

  11. Kirill,

It is great to see you back here. That is some outstanding rigging you are doing my friend! Thanks for the links, I checked me out, although Google Translate can be very amusing at time. Your English is far better than my Russian can ever be, so do not sweat it. And finally thanks for the explanation for the nail heads, I got the overall understanding and will give it a try on my next ship. As always, I am looking forward to your next installment.

    Steve
