This quote thing is confusing me! I have this kit sitting on my maybe I should start one more ship kit pile……. Your build is absolutely stunning! Very inspiring! I also am a big fan of 3d printed upgrades and mods. Almost tempted to buy one, almost. I am of mixed feeling about Model Expo stuff. I think for accurate models they are outstanding. Some of the bass wood if not the best (15 year old kit) I wish they would stop white metal and go to 3d printing faster. But overall I guess I really like their kits! As a retailer they are the bomb. (I have 4 or 5 of their kits unopened)

I spent a ton of time building an old sidewheel steamer. I have a bunch of hardwoods and the table saw that is capable of .5 mm rips. 3 months several hours a day. Stopped working on it to drift off the model railroading and RC drag racing…… Lately went back to it and now sorta just want to paint it so it is accurate to prototype. Along the same lines I bought a book and some sharpening stuff for carving wood. I currently use a mini spokeshave to shape planks until I get bored then just soak them overnight and trim with #11 knife blade. A couple of hard wood sanding blocks are my go to for planking. I also sand planks with 220 before building. All depends on kits need and my goal. I am thinking a plank bender the scores the back for kits with thick plankes and sharp curves.

My very amateur observation is they would just take the tiller handle out to reverse the sail. -

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
