BLACK VIKING reacted to Voyageur in Canoe by Voyageur - FINISHED - scale 1:12 - RESTORATION
It’s been a few days since I posted anything on this. I suck at painting! I finally got a paint job I feel like sharing. I’ve painted it, sanded and repainted three times! I was thinking of two tone but I don’t have the skills yet with the airbrush to feel confident I won’t screw this up. I’m ok with that for now. I think I’ll just put on the gunwale, seats and thwarts and call it completes. Hopefully this weekend?? I really want to move on to the half hull planking project but I don’t want to do that until this is done.

I started by cleaning up the keel pieces and bulkheads, then I glued the keel pieces together using a magnetic board to hold them together.

Thank you kindly EG, yep its just a "Bag it job" to mask all the fuselage minus the area to be re sprayed, then after a few days another blast over with the top coat.

Minor hitch in the giddyup brother, well within your skills as I have seen right on this log.... Don't sweat the small stuff and that is small stuff..... Just make sure it is completely degassed before you try and fix it...
Beautiful work a mossy to be proud of.... (I'm sure your father would love it)

Just took these pics of the bits in my box drying/de gasing, it shows the damage to the Left rear stab (I used a little wet and dry it has gone through the paint a bit so I will have to mask and re spray the Grey section).

BLACK VIKING reacted to Ekis in Medieval Fortified Village by Ekis - 1/87 scratch base kit Aedes Ars
The construction continues with work on the wall between the left of the watchtower and the future village gate. To fill this space, it was necessary to build the wall itself, stick it solidly to the tower, and provide for the defence facilities...
The hoardings are in progress all along, with a part closed on the outside and open gallery on the inside. The micro carpentry requires time and precision... Knowing that I am in complete creation, therefore without a plan !
I needed an access staircase (not easy to do !) to the ramparts : I chose to do it in stones against the wall. it is also planned buildings under this gallery (barn and/or stable, shelter or workshop...).
Then, I will attack the wall to the right of the tower with a house next to it. 😎

Cockpit does take a little while to get decorated, especially at 1/72. It is however doable, although, you might and up with a slight headache using your eagle eyes

Glueing it together is not an issue, mostly making the glue points clean so it will stick was my issue!

BLACK VIKING reacted to Osmosis in M4-A1 Sherman Tank by Osmosis - Italeri - 1:35
I know it has been a while but here is my progress so far. The turret and body are all assembled and I have been working on filling and smoothing seams where needed while I wait for my paints to arrive. This kit was always meant as a practice platform for my as yet untried airbrushing abilities. I placed an order with tower hobbies for a bunch of Tamiya paint for this and the battle ship kits that will follow when I feel that my skills are up to it.

I am happy with the 4 and 6 pounders for Speedy and Alert, no need to replace them as they're the same as what's in the kit!

BLACK VIKING reacted to Andre in Wasa by Andre - FINISHED - Corel - 1:75
Continueing on the foremast: I have made the shrouds. I used 0.8 mm thick (as mentioned in Corel instructions) black rope for the shrouds themselves. The lanyards are almost as thick (I used rope that did not have a thickness marking on it). Perhaps this is too thick, as the Corel instructions indicate 0.25 mm. Perhaps that I will change them, or otherwise I will use the smaller rope at the upper level shrouds, like I did with the bowsprit.
One advantage of the thicker lanyards is that there is automatically a lot of friction, so even without tying the ends, the shrouds remain under tension. I noticed, that after a day already some lanyards needed some extra tensioning, because of loosening of the rope. I will wait with tying until also the foreward stay is attached.
The horizontal alignment of the triangular deadeyes is not perfect, but I am satisfied enough with it.
Also the top of the mast looks very tidy, with the 10 ropes nicely above eachother.

BLACK VIKING reacted to James H in HM Brig-Sloop Flirt 1782 by James H - FINISHED - Vanguard Models - 1:64
Hi Glenn, what do you refer to? This is exactly the same as Speedy, so far.
There sure is.
As the stern keel post is only 3mm thick, I prepared the MDF by tapering it to just over 1mm in thickness (about 1.5mm), down from the original 3mm., through the deadwood area.
The first planking layer is 1.5mm thick on each side, so I didn't want to add another 3mm onto the MDF thickness at that point as the pear planking will make up the the correct thickness. If I'd planked that area, I would've just had to sand it away and still thin out the deadwood area.

BLACK VIKING reacted to James H in HM Brig-Sloop Flirt 1782 by James H - FINISHED - Vanguard Models - 1:64
Maybe it's just the way I work, but it seemed easier NOT to have to plank that area and then sand most of it away, plus the underlying MDF too.

BLACK VIKING reacted to uss frolick in General Roy Urquhart, Commander 1rst British Airborne Div., Arnhem, Holland, Sept. 1944.
We all remember Sean Connery's epic role as General Roy Urquhart in the 1976 film "A Bridge Too Far." This is my 1/6th scale tribute:

BLACK VIKING reacted to uss frolick in 1st Battalion, Royal Ulster Rifles, 6th British Airborne Div, D-Day, Normandy, France, 1944.
My further adventures into 1/6th scale custom WWII British Commonwealth articulated figures: Two Irish NCO glider troopers of the Royal Ulster Rifle Regiment, part of the 6th Airlanding Brigade, preparing to seize and defend the eastern approaches to Sword Beach against the advancing German 21st Panzer Division. And yes, the corporal's has a Matt Damon head-sculpt.
