Yes, but they should have been mounted above reach. Us too had something like that and they are still being sold.

We have all gone soft. Don’t you remember the electric fires with coiled wire behind a grid wide enough for kids to push their fingers through. In my day an electric shock a week was considered a good way of toughening kids up. All the electrical equipment in our house had mandatory rat chewed flexes repaired expertly with scotch tape or bandaids.😐

Thanks for the likes. I'll do this half of the keel, rudder then the other side then see how much I've got left for the gaps. Not bad so far, you will get gaps between plates as the angles change and offset of 50 percent changes. Some stick together or bond instantly. not the first time I have gone to work with a plate stuck to my shirt.

The postman brought a nice variety of Woodland Scenic items. I have no idea how that Sea Fury crept into the order😎

So I have been experimenting on bits of scrap with the various grass types and finally got brave enough to start adding some to the base. I used diluted white glue to hold the grass to the base. Its weird stuff; I was expecting something like coloured sawdust but its almost a spongy consistency and not easy to add evenly and it balls up easily if you over manipulate it. I ended up shaking it one and tipping off what wasn't wanted outside the glued areas. It actually looks a lot better than I expected and I'm sure the technique is something I will learn to improve on.

I think its going to be important to resist the temptation to go crazy with this stuff and overdo the greenery. I have some weed clumps and stands of tall grass in mind but I want to keep it mainly a muddy little place.
Thanks for looking in and all the likes and comments

For some reason I seem to be mincing around with this build. Motivation is not very strong so only little bits get done between distractions.
I've painted the initial colours onto the base using craft acrylics.

After the paint was dry I air brushed a very thin black wash to merge the colours and deden some of the lighter shades

The vehicles were placed temporarily in their spots

I have ordered a large variety (but only a small part of their range) of Woodland Scenic products for grass, weeds and low bushes. The idea is somewhere behind the lines where there is still a bit of green around the mud.
The Whippet has had decals applied and both the FWD and the tank have been detailed a bit with rust and bare metal. They will now receive a coat of dry dirt and dust. The markings on the Whippet are far too fresh.
The Whippet in the picture has the canvas track guards fitted so I started making a set from card. They will get a base coat of buff and then be considerably dirtied and should look the part.

The fuel tins and baggage needs to be created and I must get serious about painting the figures.
Thanks for looking in, the likes and comments.

I am calling this one finished clearing the bench Boys for the GB.The rigging is just stretched grey sprue and the cocking mechanism for the MG's just was being a PIA said FIT.The build was really to see if I could pull a paint scheme as such for other builds down the road and a cheap kit with a poor fit was a good test it took me 8 months off/on to get this done. The trash can looked appealing more than once.

    Hi sir,
My name is Lorraine Ennis and I’m the lady who had made the hull of the Wasa that you are working on.  The gentleman who I gave it to for completion had emailed me some time ago and gave me the link so I could watch you finish my ship.  I have really enjoyed watching what you are doing.  I had developed too many hand problems to be able to finish her.  I’ve noticed that you haven’t posted any pictures since April.  Are you still working on her?  If so, I’d love to see how she is coming along.  Thank you.

Hello everyone I am sorry that I have not been on here in quite some time but I had some life situations happen that created some difficulties with working on the ships in general. I am doing some slow slow work on her but the issue I am having at the moment is the bow section has broken to a point that I need to fashion a from scratch piece. I have been working on changing the blue color that was originally put on to the red which is now known to be the correct color of the ship.

My hope is to get some more standard work on her on the weekends after the new year as everything should be evening out by then.

@Sophiedog I do appreciate all the work you have done and have given me such a beautiful base to work off. If you have any tips and tricks that you could share i would love to hear as i am only a couple years into the hobby and one completed ship.

In my experience (minimally-manned FFGs) the underway watch rotation varied by steaming condition (where we were and what the threat level was) and by the particular manning of each division. For example, on a particular deployment the FCs managed a “normal” watch rotation (4 on, 8 off) but the OSs were short qualified watch standers and had to run 6 on, 6 off.

But then we FCs also had to maintain and repair our equipment between watches. The OSs just broke stuff then called the ETs to come fix it while they slept.

On deployment the needs of normal watch rotation; equipment maintenance/repair; UNREPs; flight ops; GQ, fire, DC, and engineering drills (and actual events); housekeeping, training, etc, ensured that everyone was sleep deprived…always.

My parents bought one but I wasn't present when they used it.  Per the family legend, it filled the kitchen and much of house with smoke.  The dogs were charcoal and the whole mess was unplugged. taken outside and hosed down before ending up in the trashcan.

    Hi,
I have been away from this hobby for more than two months and, it was now time to continue the stern portion of this project.
Here are some images of my continued work at the stern area.

For those of you who are kind enough to still follow or just drop in for a look (big thanks) – You may remember that I also intended to mostly scratch build the stern, as well as lowering the poop deck angle from what Sergal suggests in their instructions.

Here are some images, and inserted notes of the work so far.

Cheers to all – enjoy your year-end holidays.

    Norwegan Incident
    11 May 1940
Around 2330/10, a convoy of ships departed Skjelfiord for the UK. The convoy was made up of the damaged light
cruiser HMS Penelope (Capt. G.D. Yates, RN) that was being towed by the tug HMS Brigand, the damaged destroyer
HMS Isis (Cdr. J.C. Clouston, RN) that was being towed by the tug HMS Buccaneer, the transport Lochee (964 GRT,
built 1937) and the tanker British Valour (6952 GRT, built 1927).
On departure from the Skjelfiord the convoy was escorted by the destroyers HMS Campbell (L.Cdr. R.M. Aubrey,
RN), HMS. Witch (Lt. Cdr. J.R. Barnes, RN) and the A/S trawler HMS St. Loman (T/Lt. R.C. Warwick, RNR).

An hour ago, I almost binned the Corsair. I hate fails and I hate re-dos and after removing a lot of masking material, I almost reached that point, but told myself to lean back and take a deep breath.
What happened, I don't know exactly. I had residues on all the transparent parts, which were masked with the most possible care. No bleedings, but possibly grey misted residues from the lacquer colors and their thinners, which went through the masking material.
I also masked the radiator openings around the cowlings with blue tack, that went goo and is very hard to remove. It took about an hour to get rid of half of it.

The good thing, I wear a respirator mask. I don't want to know, what these stuff would have made with my brain without it.
I tried to clean the canopy with a cotton swab and wooden toothpicks and it worked luckily. The greater problem were the other transparent parts, like windscreen, lower fuselage window, and armor glass with gunsight, which were glued in place. I carefully removed them and cleaned them.
Before all these troubles, I matte coated the plane with Tamiya's flat clear lacquer, but it was still too shiny for my taste, maybe semi matte, but not flat. Out with the Pledge after drying, added 30% of Tamiya X Flat clear (never more) and sprayed again.

Now the Corsair looks like this.

To relax a bit, I continued with the undercarriage, which received some washes, followed by iron pigments rubbed on, to get a painted metal feel and finally, I had to re do the pistons, which were chrome taped. The tape is not made to adhere to small diameter parts, as it loosened itself and I had to remove it. Instead, I used my trusty Uschi chrome pigments to let them shine a bit.
The tyres were airbrushed in two different near blacks, one for the flanks and one for the running surface and than pronounced with pigments., which is my usual practice. The wheels are from Eduard and much better than these rubber thingies supplied with the kit.

I was finally able to get the main deck glued in and the front portion of the Qtr deck, the toughest challenge modifying the Qtr deck was filling in the open space between the doors with 7 little carvings and I still have to build the ladders. Up front I'm doctoring up the supplied catheads and fabricating the bulkhead/fore castle rail using .60"x.60" styrene for the bottom and .30"x.60" for the top.

this afternoon,  I got to sit down again with the model.........not much,  but enough      the tail skid is painted.........the machine guns are painted their base color.......and I got to work on the wing some more.  the top had been painted earlier with the steel gray.......still needs the darker gray on the underside.   I was standing over the fuselage...I took this picture..........

the plans show the struts for the wing..........I'm about to make the pairs.  for the wing I did the same camo design.  I was curious as to how it would look.  I think it will fit the bill alright

I'm hoping to get more done before the holidays........ ☃️🎅

Today, I muddied my Corsair up with Flory's dark grime wash, a clay based liquid, which I applied over the whole airframe, after adding a drop of soap for better distribution, with a flat brush and let dry for about half an hour. The stuff is dried by then and looks totally grimy and dead flat.
Then, I wiped the excess away with a dry piece of cotton cloth in the direction of the airflow and the very fine clay stays in all the panel lines and other crevices. The best part about this wash, you determine the grade of dirt or you can remove it completely wiped down with water, if something went wrong.

It's clearly more visible on the lighter underside, but also noticeable on the darker upper side. The good think, my pre shading is still full visible.

As a break, I made some detail painting on the landing gear, adding the brake lines and other tiny bits and pieces (not shown) and chromed the cylinders with AK's chrome tape for the first time. It worked ok, a bit more adhesion would have been great on these parts with small diameters, but it looks chrome to me, so thumbs up.

    Cheers Rob
