  1. Sorry to hear of decision to move on to a new build. I have enjoyed watching your progress and will surely follow your next build. I know how you feel, I too have had my hang ups with the Conny build. Life seems to throw many challenges at us all at one time. This summer has been really busy for me with all my other projects, I am looking to forward to winter when I can move inside and work on my Conny. Just remember all you learned building your Conny and apply it to which ship comes next.
  2. If you are using cotton rigging line, you might want to give acrylic paints a try. Just do some experimenting and dilute the paint for the desired result.
  3. Nice recovery on the steps. I found out, if something bothered me and I did not fix it, every time I looked at my model it would be the first thing I would see. Once fixed, I was able to move on. You are making great progress. Nice job.
  4. You are doing great. The bow timbers were a real learning experience for me. I am looking forward to seeing more.
  5. Welcome to the group. Great model and looking forward to your next project. Hope you start a build log.
  6. Welcome, looking forward to having you aboard
  7. Welcome, you will enjoy the sight. Lots of information and help.
  8. You are doing a great job. When you are working on your counter and bow filler pieces, it is a good time to use a test plank to see how things are looking. Now is the time to make any needed changes. This is the foundation for the rest of your build. Your planks will need to fit nicely into stern and bow rabbits. (that little grove that runs along the keel and stem). The planks on the stern are really hard to fit right. They will need to lay flat and tuck in to the bottom of the counter. The test plank will also help when you begin to fair the frames. Just take your time and be patient. Look at some of the other build log and you see what I mean.
  9. Welcome and I look forward to your build log.
  10. Great job on the counter block! This piece is really critical as so many parts of the stern align to it. The counter block is truly, a hard part to get right, so many angles to it.
  11. If you want plastic yards and masts just go to local hobby store or craft store and use styrene rods. (Evergreen). You can scrape them down with a xacto knife and #10 or #22 blades and you will get same result as wood.
  12. I am kind of old school soldering, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. But I am getting better at it the more I do it. Have fun and keep up the great work.
  13. Looking good. I don't think people realize how many "mini" kits are the Constitution. The cannons, the boats, etc. It really makes the kit a great build and learning experience. It also makes the the kit a very "long" build. Keep us posted.
  14. Thanks for the tip. This is whats great about MSW. Builders letting you know what to watch out for. I did make up some extra spacers blanks jut in case that happened. Help me out on my biggest fear. How to attach all the lines to the deck? The area next to the foremast is awfully crowded. I am worried about attaching the stays that run down along side the mast and attach to the deck. I still have a lot of figuring out to do. Any suggestions you have would be appreciated. Thanks.
  15. Welcome Steve, Looking forward to your build log.
  16. I am still getting everything lined up to start my standing rigging. I made a deadeye spacer to help me align the deadeyes. It was made out of some brass rod, soldered together, and then bent to shape. I know the deadeyes are suppose to be three deadeyes apart. There is a lot more planning to do before I actually start the rigging of my shrouds.
  17. Great job Dave. She looks great. It is hard to believe that the box of wood and string can turn into something so beautiful. It is a true reward to see all your hard work come to a conclusion. Enjoy the holiday and then start off the New Year making some sawdust!
  18. Your build is looking great. You are really paying attention to detail and it makes your build really stand out.
