With regard to the wood stacking... the Engineer is the boss, right?

Chris, Off to a great start. If you haven't done so, use the search feature for Bonhomme Richard. There's been at least one other build of her by Jeronimo. Plus discussions on the wreck being found, My bad... there's another one by Jerry Greening. These might help you. I do have the monograph also and it's on my bucket list.

Your aging and weathering is incredible. And may you and your family have a wonderful Christmas and New Years.

Maybe she'll make them for you as most women think we men will break their wonderful machine. And actually, quite a few builders have the sails made by their wives.

Can you raise and lower the blade or is it fixed in position? I ask because I cringed when you said you "walked it down". If you can raise and lower the blade, next time, drop the blade to bottom, install your top (or if a Byrnes or other hobby type, the zero clearance stock) and then fire it up and slowly raise the blade.

Goldfinch by amateur - FINISHED - Scherft - 1:1 - CARD
mtaylor replied to amateur's topic in Non-ship/categorised builds
Looks great. Don't put them outside in the spring or I suspect some finches will be trying to mate with it. -
The entry steps look so much better re-fitted. And I apologize for my typing... I really need to proof read before hitting "submit".

Dereck, I have a thickness sander and also disc sander (with a belt) . Of those two, I can probably count one hand how many times I've used the disc sander. I have used the thickness sander, and wish it was a Byrnes but when I bought it, Byrnes wasn't making one.

You don't show power outlets but make sure there's plenty.

second plank
mtaylor replied to michael101's topic in Building, Framing, Planking and plating a ships hull and deck
Michael, Have you read the planking tutorials at the top of this subforum? They should put you on the right path. -

Hi Dean, Welcome to MSW. Once you decide on a model, I hope you'll start a build log as it's a great way to get help and make friends. I think a lot of us have built the balsa and silkspan aircraft and crashed them. Like others, I've found wooden ships less likely to crash.

Wow.. unbelievable. As for the fan wiring.... just say it's in the conduit. By the way... is that a pencil on the desk?

What Pat said... just make sure the nail polish remover is acetone. They are making many that don' t have it. IsoPropyl won't dissolve CA.

Before you get into re-machining your arbor... have a look here: https://www.malcosaw.com/ I think you'll want the "cutting blades".
-
Mark, I went here to the Kit area and the pinned Index topic: There's 5 build logs with one showing as Finished. I hope this helps.

Looking good, Edward. Double the plans. I don't think that black strip runs through the ladder/steps. I don't have my plans handy (stored away with stuff I've finished) so I can't say for sure.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
