    Jud, Many times those triangle shot holders had a solid base with holes (pockets) cut into the base for the shot to sit. Now in a rolling sea, I wouldn't want to be near one with more than one layer of shot.

    True. They call them "timbering sets".... wood enough to do the framing and I think still a set of plans with them. As for plans, one has to snail mail the Hahn family. I suppose, someone with some time, could scan any plans and create their own Hahn style set.

    It's good you have local storage, Clare. Old saying in IT... store your data on someone else's computer and they own it and can lose it.

    Alan, Will Inventor export the files to other formats like most of the 2D programs? I'm not familiar with 3D so I have no idea what's a "good" file type and what's not. I might be worth it for one year to get your files exported to something you can use.

    Everyone makes mistakes building models, Jo. That's why everyone has a "scrap box" which gets fed on a regular basis.

    Nothing wrong with the "poor man's lathe" and the quality of work you're doing, Steven. Look pretty darn good from here. I used that method on my Constellation cannon and actually enjoyed doing them. I hope the rest of them go as well.

    I can't speak to American ships of this era, but the French frigate (for the most part... there were exceptions) used "bucklers" on all ports except for the most forward ones which used a lid. Perhaps Constitution used bucklers? Now that I've stirred the pot a bit, I'll exit stage-left.

    I get an "under construction" notice on that page. If you go to the top of the page and click on "More" and then "Articles Database" it works just fine. We are in the process of re-working the database but it's not live yet.

    Hahn is a style. So called "upside down" and he also stylized the spacing on the ribs. There was one (I think) kit maker and one timbering set maker who used the Hahn style that I know of.

    Nice solution to the problem. If you run into this again and the wires are too thick for the conduit, only run one wire through and use the tube as your ground. Maybe just a fiddly or maybe not as you'll need to solder at the light and at the bottom of the tube.

    Michael, One solution is not to expect everything to be perfect in the box. Find one that's close to what you want and the bash it. I did that with my Constellation and have been well pleased the effort in research and re-work to get it right or as right as I could get it. I doubt that any model will ever be perfect miniature of the real ship but to get close is a worthwhile challenge.

    Welcome to MSW. "Best" is a term that that's vague.     Hmm... Portland is about 250 miles as the highway wanders. Big storm rolling in tonite and tomorrow through Weds. and roads may be a mess until Friday....

    From what I've seen here at MSW, anything by Chuck (Syren Model Company) or Chris Walton (he's done a number of kits for various companies such as Amati and Caldercraft). Also Model Shipways and Bluejacket. Dusek is redoing kits from (brain fade) the company they bought that burned and from what I understand are improving them. There's probably more...
