The plating is looking wonderful Nils. I can't wait to see it finished and painted.

    Hi Patrick,

I`ve been thinking, just for that reason,  of spray painting several times already, but spraying from a pressurized can now and then sprays little drops of paint, that do`nt vaporize sufficiently. I also made some trials with resin based dull surface and soft brush application, that drys down to a smooth homogen surface. Will probably do it that way..., also you may have experienced yourself already, that a little too long duration on a surface area brings "running leak noses", and removing these is very frustrating.
For this build I intend to spray on a special clear color primer bonder, that is supposed to bring a super bonding of paint on (even shiny) aluminium surfaces without special pre-surface-treatment. If that works out like it should I`ll be be totally happy. A little care is necessary with the masking (hull waterline) in places where the masking covers the plating overlapping edges. In that case I use special thin paper based, self adhesive, soft lining tape, so far with good results

I am always amazed to see the challenges you give yourself with the small scale. I will watch and wonder.

    Good luck

Looking good! I think you've captured the essence of the hull form suggestions. She looks really streamlined!

    Hi everyone

Many thanks for all of your comments and Likes! Greatly appreciated!

Tonight, I've continued to work on the hull...more sanding, more puttying, more shaping, etc, etc, etc. I hope I've been true to Ben's suggestions about the flare in the bow and the overall underwater's shape. If not, it's not too late to still work on it.

    Anyhow, here's the results!

    Cheers and thanks

Very nicely done, Mark! I can't carve for the life of me, so I tip my hat off to you!

What you've done is a perfect example of 'if at first you don't succeed, then keep trying and it'll turn out really nicely".

    Hi everyone

I'm very grateful for all your comments and Likes. Keep'em coming, because it keeps me going!

Tonight, I've had a go at carving the wooden hull, based upon the clay mock up and advice from Ben and Bill. Here are some photos of the rough job so far. Heaps more sanding, patching and sanding and patching (you know the drill) to go. But at least it's a start.

Hope you're all well and all the best!

    Cheers

    Hi Nils

    Absolutely amazing!

Quick question in relation to the hull painting. Would I be right in guessing that you'd have to spray paint the hull instead of hand brushing it for fear of covering over the rivets? Just curious.

    Cheers

Quick question-will you leave the hull unpainted? The natural finish would really set it off nicely, should you choose not to paint her.

A "display" only model! That must've been a hard decision to make, particularly after all the work you've put into it. Nevertheless, even as a display model, it'll still look brilliant.
