Old Collingwood replied to Old Collingwood's topic in Non-ship/categorised builds
Evening all, a bit more progress this evening - I have assembled the raptor still needs painting and washes, I have placed him with Rexy to give an idea of the size difference, he has movable legs so I will be able to place him in different positions on the dio. OC. -

Looking at my pics of the Velo - I wll attempt to cut the gaps between its rib cages all the way to the spine, as it looks odd as it is., should be alot "Alot" easier to work on as its the same scale as Rex but only 10inches long real length would be between 5 and 6feet in real life. OC. -

But I didn't stop there - you know that little Velociraptor dig kit my admiral got me, well I decided to start it as it will be placed on my Rex base - so first off the box then the mould of hard plaster, then on with the dig, included in the kit is also a tiny Diplodocus that basically snaps together - its looks cute I will still paint it up and shade it, the admiral said she fancy's putting it on her shelves when finished. Next was to start the dig - so I donned my boots and hard hat and went in using the plastic tools included - gently gently hammering away using the plastic chisel from the edges till part of the skeleton was exposed - I continued for about an hour till I found all the parts. I cross checked with the instructions (all there) then I binned the broken plaster pieces. I have placed all the parts on my mat. OC. -

Evening all, I got some good progress done today - firstly I turned the skeleton over with the base, then I found some small screws, I then drilled some pilot holes up through the inverted toe impressions - and screwed underneath into his toes, this secured him down nicely as he is quite heavy. So here are some pics of him assembled (minus needing the head and tail end gluing they are just push fitted for now). OC. -

Bit of an update friends - I have attached both sides of his pelvic bones and filled any gaps with putty, then I have dry fitted his legs - he sits on his legs but is a bit out of balance - but the kit comes with a pre cast plastic base with cast foot impressions, so I have glued him down (but will attach him even better with some tiny screws from underneath) his head and end tail section slides on but will need securing when I get some puer glue. I foregot to take pics - but it is Huge. OC. -
Loving the natural looking fading on it - really nicely done. OC.

Morning all, the admiral had a (nice) surprise for me yesterday, she said it was put up for christmas but with my current build and idea for a kind of dio - she decided to give it to me now - its a small excavation kit of a Veloceraptor here is a video I found online that shows what you do, she said it was a Thank You for me looking after her - https://duckduckgo.com/?t=ffab&q=Dinosaur++Skeleton+builds&iax=videos&ia=videos&iai=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Dlh7IzPqmN7M OC. -

Evening all, so I managed more time on rexy to day, I have been putting base layers on the different sections at a time - due to the shere size of them, but as the skull/head has had enough - I decided to try some shading starting with Black, again I can only do one side at a time due to the watery slow drying washes. Thank you kindly Edward, I fixed the tail issue - I bent the metal inner spine (metal square section rod thingy) to a shape with just a slight bend just behind the pelvic bone and same at the neck, its staying in place now as it was quite hard to bend. OC.

The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
