    lovely work, i have found shapeways quite strange in their pricing, but ideal for something that is better than a kit product, i was after their Seaslug launcher, but managed to obtain from a another source here in the UK, PS the build looks fantastic

    Rob lovely work, mine is presently on hold and has been for nearly two years, whilst i finished the 1/200 Bismarck and have spent the last year on my HMS Fife build, but she is safe and ready to come out of storage at short notice, my main reason for stopping was that i want to fit stun sails, and therfore i need about another 9 inches either side to accommodate them, space i just dont have at present sorry i cannot make your coffee club

    lol why do i pick kits that take me years to do, and you finish a group build while i mess around doing some planking

    OC Not my photo, but perhaps one of the best options is to forget the black, and go very dark grey with some pre-shading or post shading, that way you could pick out some of the detail, or go the whole hog and simulate water

    Subs are not the easiest things to model, but there are some lovely builds out there, a lot of them go into diorama settings which takes the eye of something that is basically a sewer tube with propulsion

    Oc the frame showing are major Bulkheads within the hull, and wont be seen as they have either ballast tanks or casing covering them,

    Finished the planking for thew gun deck, its removable at present, to avoid so much masking at time of painting now moving onto the bridge section, as the deck is plank down to the hanger area, and attempting to made the bridge lookout area on top of the bridge

    Just to throw a hand grenade in and run out, this suggestion was given to me, by all people (the wife) the paddle steamer Waverly but would possibly need to be 1/48 (about 60" long) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PS_Waverley

    ty i have had a look, but with 24 of thinking i have come up with a few ideas already

    the Fife has wooden decks pretty well along the main deck but stops i think just before the hanger, but i need to find an acceptable way of securing the deck to the hull first, i may have to rethink the process that i have presently and attach it permanently with access below the main superstructure, as for my build all not much is going in there, a couple of shafts maybe as i have to fit the props to something i believe the deck was in teak, i am using some lime (and not very good lime at that) so that will have to be coloured, then some paint will bring the pointy end to life, lots of green with white fittings, thats after sourcing capstans, anchor chain, bow steaming light, lol im sure there is lots of other stuff like hydrants etc

    OC thank you i am tempted, i can get the hull in 1/96, but would possibly do Fearless, intrepid of the Tiger http://www.sirmarfittings.com/british warships.html but for this project i would like something a little different but bridging a time gap, the wife just mentioned the SS great Britain

    Thank you Chris i of course have looked at the Amerigo Vesspucci, i ruled Warrior out due to scale size (not because its Billings) i have also considered Lumberyards kits but i dont have a milling machine or fully understand the imperial scales, but i do love that Kanrin Maru and the scale is good lol i called rename it to sound British thank you for your reply

    Good evening everyone This year I am 60 years old and possibly 3 years away from retiring I came back to modelling a few years ago after a 40 years break, and currently have a few large scale builds on the go My 1/72 HMS Fife which should be completed within the year My Caldercraft HMS Victory, which I am desperately wanting to get back to, now that I have a way ahead for her And my 1/80 SD 14 Cargo ship in card (ongoing) I love the 1/72 scale, I may be bad at doing it and the size takes me for ever but when im in my man cave I love it, I am looking for another build, maybe a little different, I don’t want another 1st rate what I am after is something in the 100 year time scale before or after the Victory, British in 1/72, in wood, I would love a plank on frame, but don’t have the tools for milling, and I sold my unused brynes thicknesser/sander last year Any suggestions , because at the moment everything I look at does not fit into the bracket

    thank you for the replies and likes the one great advantage about this build, is that it is big enough to restart sections, or treat sections/modules alone without interfering with another, this section shows that example quite well. the gun deck i made a card template of the area being worked on, and covering it with lime strips, the edges to represent caulking i am using my tried and tested permanent marker, i personally dont mind a little bit of bleeding as it soaks in due to the pen being held into position for to long, i hope to have this completed this week the inner circle is steel, so i may just expose the deck below it or put a circle temple into the middle spray the same as the deck colour if for any reason this build is put onto water then it can be removed

    dolphins are awarded on completion of part 3 training on your first Sub, i got mine back in 1980, on a conventional boat HMS Odin, all in all i had only 6 hull but did about 24 years in them of the 28 years in subs plus another 6 years in surface vessels, hence the building of my HMS Fife
