    hello everyone

I have been quiet on MSW this week, RL and work getting in the way, took day off work just to get on with the build,

the stern is taking quite a lot of time to get right, no visit from Murphy to mess it up either, he paid me a visit at the week-end on the last chain plate channel

did not realise the problem until 1/2 way through fitting the chain plates themselves  found out it was far to low, approx 5mm

the Spanish inquisition i carried out revealed i had been measuring from the wale on the plans, but transferred the distance from the painted black band on the build,

    Hello all y'all shipwrights,

There are festivities at the Flying Dutchman's shipyard!!  The entire hull of the O 19 is now closed in with the base planking!  I put on a CD with the Mariniers Kapel and poured myself a good Belgian beer, Trapist
I also smeared wood putty over the hull and sanded it down.  I like that word, smear, reminds of the Dutch word "smeren."      Is better then spreading, that's so proper.
I'm still nit-picking at at several locations but overall she looks quite good and even to me.  The biggest problem I found is that there is too much spacing between several bulkheads and the thin planking has a tendency to sag a little in between.  The foam was not much help and in retrospect I should have made more bulkheads.  However, the sag is VERY minor, estimated at a cat's whisker.  It didn't take much filler to bring the hull to proper contour.

I'm now almost ready to glue the thin Dacron cloth to the hull with epoxy resin and then correct any imperfections with either bondo or acrylic paste.  I don't like bondo that much, it has a rather short short shelf life once mixed with the hardener.. The acrylic paste takes a lot longer to cure and is nice and pliable.  I used that stuff in painting pictures with acrylic paints.  The artists among yuns understand what I'm talking about.

I couldn't help myself in drawing the outline of the deck on top of the hull.  I'm also looking for a drawing or photos of the little sloop that was stowed blow deck aft of the con.  I only have two photos of that thing but it's difficult to use for a model of it.

Next step is drawing up the deck structure frames.  This time I'm going to make enough frames but i'm using 1 mm plywood for the covering that should be rigid enough, I hope.

Okay, here are a few pics of the current status.

3/4 starboard side view of closed hull with some of the sanded down wood filler.  As mentioned above, the final finishing will be done after the Dacron cloth is put on and before gluing the fake steel plates made from paper.

A view 3/4 from the bow.

    Kevin,

Your stern is looking very good, real crisp and clean.  Glad you got your flag locker inserts so quickly from Jotika.  I finally got my missing Tanganyika deck strips the other day.  I asked Jotika for them at the end of January.  3 1/2 months!

Keep up the great work.  Nice job on the deck too!

    Greetings
Thanks to you all for your comments and encouragement. I have all but finished the gunport lids. I have only the bottom 15 to fit and that it. I need a few eyelets for them, and they arrive tomorrow so all will be finished tomorrow night. So after tidying up the paintwork and any other bits and bobs I will turn my attention to the bows and see what is going on down there. Anyway once again I am happy with things, and here's a few photos chaps. The first one shows all the gunport lids for one side that you fellow builders will soon be enjoying!!!!! Hello there Yon!! ...thanks for viewing DAVID

    Good morning to you all,

Hello Joe, Grant and Sjors; thanks for looking in and your everlasting support.

I had some spare time to do some more work, so here goes:

Obtaining the correct information is very difficult. Only on Monday evening I managed to get the correct information regarding the correct number and position of the observation platform support struts. Didn't have much to correct, and added more struts to get the correct number. But this is only the beginning, as the real detail is in the pipework that runs along the platform - especially the rain water drain lines and the communication lines.

A view from the rear, showing the correct position and number of struts involved.

Starting off with the wind breaker shields, for the observation platform. Just one note on this. I am just fitting in the pieces, for the time being. When all the perimeter is fitted in, then I shall trim the shields down to the correct size and linear. For the time being, one shall see a lot of pieces fixed at random and not linear or equal.

    A view from the front.

    Progressing along the port side.

A view of the progress so far.

Shall post more pictures next Monday.

    Build time 812 hours

Not much to show this week, even though a long weekend (May Day Bank Holiday) only 4 hours was available to me, all the channels for the port side have be completed (2 of the 5) have been attached.

All my trails and tribulations early on in the build, in getting everything set up right, are now paying off. It is making my life so much easier, as it all seams to a a refection (as should be to the stbd side)

i realised the build name was in my nick name of 30+ years, and the signature was my real name, since i left the RN the Wilber has not been used - so i am weaning my self away from it. To save any confusion - i changed the build to both, but seams to have back fired somewhat, i wonder if Dr Pers can help me
