Nice progress Matti. Last picture gives a great sense of proportion, so we can imagine how big she was.

Jack, as I follow your build, the will to buy and build this kit only increases - part of it I devote to the ship´s curves themselves, it´s a marvelous longship - but your work is inspiring enough for this increasing sensation. Good work!

Schnu, thank you. I´m feeling really better this week - Seems I´ve got some magical medicine or something, lol. I´m going for my "ending ship spree", now! Sam, stairs are something kit manufacturers should look closely - My second kit, the second one with that problem (though in the first I still could use the kit´s material). Ty for the compliment - and 7x1, historical score - Our team lost all composure in there. Shows how psichological work is important too. Raymond, I´m really enjoying all the steps till now. My Red Dragon is all changed and at the end, I´ll rename it. As I´m feeling almost me again, today will be a great day on my ship!! Obrigada pelo carinho. =* Sjors, so coffee it is. Don´t be sorry, u deserved the score!! Thanks

Schnu, for bending wood there are lots of tricks and tools. I bended my last ones soaking wood on water and heating an iron bar - That was totally improvised, since I did it all on my stove - but you can use those hair "curlers" or similar. For soaking the wood, use a recipient to fit all the strip you want to bend and let it there for 20 minutes or more. Over heat, soaked wood can bend easily.

Max, thanks for the compliments and, well - nice training game for you, at least it seemed so. Ty, Matti! Popeye, I know, but sometimes u wish to be there doing a lot more and that can be frustrating - patience is easier spoken than actually carried on, lol. I´m holding myself, though. Thanks for your words. =* Jack, that´s all I want, that worn out effect - and I´m feeling ok, better and better everyday. Thank you. Michael, thanks. Hope she´ll be better than us, here. That was a shamefull display, to say the minimum. Ulises, I´m losing track of all modifications I´ve done, but I´ll try to write them down soon. Obrigada! Los germanos fuéran mejores, pero como esperar tan grande victoria? Eso no se puede olvidar nunca...

I´ve worked a bit more in the past few days. Truth is I still can´t go fulltime on her, as I feel some pain yet. Overall I´m okay for many things, though After some while trying to figure it out what should be on the compartment, decided for some boxes, crates and sacks. Ming ships from the 1400´s would carry no barrels, at least not the ones we´re used to see around. After seeing pictures from lots of models, junk ships and museums (as the Imperial Granary Museum), sacks for grains turned into the best choice for acompanying the boxes first planned. I was stuck on that, researching as a crazy for pictures to close this chapter . So, after deciding that I made some boxes and a crate (that is a hard thing to do) and the trapdoor for the compartment. The trapdoor was something I had to think about, as the kit ones are horrible. Closed compartment Open compartment Box and crate Next I was for the stairs. AL gave me some headache here - the precut parts were wrongly assembled. Instead of four left strips and four right ones, I got all right - 8 pieces identically cut. So, I had to scratch mine. AL precut stair strips And here are the final results, till now:

Michael, really great! Me myself never saw one of them on flesh! Bindy, getting better by the hour! Thanks for your words. Sjors, thanks for visiting! Can I get u some coffee? I was really optimistic about Brazil this Cup, but that went well. I blame Mick Jaeger for that part - he really shouldn´t be there on the stadium. As for the build, I´m really gratefull Mick Jaeger isn´t here . I´m doing my best and with a lot of care. Thank u. =* Scott, thanks. That´s funny, cause I was planning to paint all black and red as some pictures show Ming ships, but after getting the results at hand I´ll simply let it as it is - All contrasting wood stains and waxes.

Well, u´ve give me more to think about. At the moment I find all my scalpel blades too fragile, as I keep breaking them a lot. Things that do look intreresting to buy are clamps, that detail sander, keel klamper and master cut. On a second thought, detail sander can be avoided, as I can do my own. I have no clamps yet and use cloth ones, which are not that good most of the time. Keel klamper seems a darn good thing to hold ships, though I can´t say how much it can hold (I´m for 2 or 3 more kits before going full scratch - that´s my planning, at least). Master cut would help me with breaking those scalpel blades. I know I could build a master cut, but do not trust myself yet to build one with no power tools - I don´t even have saws for that matter. I´m buyng tools as needed and at the moment, am missing cutting, clamping and measurement tools. As Amati have lots of tools for modelling, and has a name to zeal, should I trust their tools as quality ones?

I´ve been scrolling through Ebay on Amati and found lots of tools from them. Question is - is it worth? Some of them look just some money wasted, but not all. Any thoughts will be welcome!

Matti, thank you. Yours is a great ship and a superb model. I love the wood contrasts u got in there - mine just follows your ideas. Getting there, Raymond, getting there. Need to figure out how to turn lights on/off on the cabin, first, and fill my compartment with tiny boxes and such. Brigada! Gracias, Ulises! Tedrás que perdonarme, pero soy Brasil en eso!!! :P (excuse-me, but I´m Brazil in there)

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
