Hello Nigel Thanks for your advice. I have an idea what you mean . I will complete all the hull planking and then look at the keel, to which I have not even added the first planking yet, which I don't think is necessary, but may be wrong. I should be finished the second planking over the weekend, and then look at the keel. Thanks once again. DAVID

Greetings Jerry Good to hear from you. I just had a look at your half moon , that doesn't sound right. So it's a galleon as is my royal caroline according to the admiral. It is rather small but at least there should be no problem .finding a place for it in the house. The planking on the victory was far from hard, and most of it was hidden by copper plates and paintwork. This being a lot smaller and all the planking visible, it's got to be very neat. I am just about finished the second planking but won't bother posting until it's finished and tidied up. Take your time and enjoy your build. As the case arrived ??? Catch you later , take care. DAVID ..

Greetings Rich So here we go again. Keep building down and out. You can make fine adjustments as you go. Infill all the small gaps at once, and don't leave them until the end, it's easier. Good luck this time. DAVID

Greetings Jerry Hope all is well, and well done with your pinnace. Your case should be with you in a few days now??? And then maybe there will be a big box under the Xmas tree later. I am about the third of the way through my second planking but it is very slow and boring , as you can only fit a few planks and then have to wait for the pva to set before removing the pins. The victory planking was a lot easier with the ship being much larger. Take care. Catch you later . DAVID

Greetings all Well things are going pretty well at the moment, and the first planking is finished and sanded smooth, and I am pleased with way it has turned out. I was surprised how little filler I needed to use. I will now continue planking to all the upper areas, and sort out the underside of the transom. I am wondering if I should plank the sides of the keel at this stage, or if it is even necessary to add a first planking. Ok that's me for now, here's a few photos. Regards DAVID

Greetings Jerry I have just been looking at Gil's cases which are amazing, and the same as you will be receiving In a few weeks. Bet you cannot wait. Have you decided on your next ship yet, or still debating. The one you mentioned has a pointy end which could be a factor. I have started to make my next ship and it's coming on fine, the first planking should be finished tomorrow, then the sanding. Regards. DAVID.

Greetings all Well here I go with my second build, which was not my chosen build. My chosen ship was the Pegasus by Victory models after following blue ensigns cracking build. I received the pegasus for my birthday in July and was ready to start the build on the completion of my first build. The Admiral was chatting to a friend who came to visit and was telling her about my late father who built lots of model ships, and saying how clever he was. She said to her friend the last two ships he built were galleons and and he built them side by side. She turned to me and said I don't want you to build that ship you have now, I want you to build a galleon. So after looking at the kits on CMB and photos she along with her friend decided the Royal Caroline was nice. It was not worth arguing so I am now building the Royal Galleon Caroline. I made a start a few weeks ago and have just started the first planking, and things are going ok. And at the minute this will be a straight foward build, but we will see what's what when the planking is completed. There are some really cracking builds going on here with all you enthusiastics, so I should not be lost for advice or help if needed. Well here we go we are off and running. Here's a few photos of my Galleon. DAVID

Greetings Glenn A simple way to replicate this is to drill the holes for the rigging thread in the hull the same diameter as the parral beads. You can slide the bead onto the thread, and when you fit the thread into the hole, slide the bead half way into to the hole, which should give a nice effect. You can also use the same idea on some of the running rigging which feeds through the hull at the later stage. Regards DAVID

Greetings all Thanks once again to one and all. Cheers Brian and good luck with your sloop. Philippe good luck with your mantua victory art776 which I have myself half built . Gunther yes I have started to build the caroline, and will start my log soon, and hoping for help along the way. Greetings Max which ship are you building .??? Cheers Rich back to those wretched tiles , and Glenn you will be surprised what a difference the case makes, apart from the dam reflection on photos. Photos don't do it justice. And we can always rely on you being around Mort , thanks a lot. Regards DAVID

Greetings all Well at last the ship is in it's case. The photos don't do it justice, as I pointed out in the display case log. But the ship does really look impressive. The photos showing the full case are very fuzzy, and we tried everything we could think of to eliminate it. I did notice the fuzzy pictures when I moved into my new shipyard and blame it on the blue walls which I was advised was the best colour to use. The walls in the other yard were magnolia and the photos were much sharper. Anyway you can see the difference with the close up photos. So that's my lot, and now I turn to my next build which is the royal yacht caroline by panart. I did purchase the pegasus after following blue ensigns brilliant build, but the admiral said she wanted me to build a galleon. She said my late fathers last two ships were galleons so she wanted a galleon. She had a look through Cornwall model boats list of ships and between herself and her friend decided the caroline was a nice ship. So I am now beginning the only royal galleon caroline on the site. I would like to thank you one and all for following my build over the last few years, which has been wonderful experience. I am now off to build my Galleon. Here's the last few photos. Keep enjoying your builds....DAVID
