Greetings robert Just concentrate on 270, as the others should match up. If you are using the canon as a guide you need deck planking under the wheels. Don't bother about fitting 276 at all for now, I will explain that later. Also don't worry about any bulkheads slightly showing through the gunports. Take your time. DAVID

Greetings Robert I was wondering if you were going to add supports in the keel for mounting pins, as it will be easier to cut out the slots before assembling the bulkheads.. It will also be a good idea to reduce (taper) the bearding line down to 3mm at the stern before any assembly at all ( page 3 before planking the hull) as this makes life a lot easier. Sorry if I am telling you the road you know. Enjoy your build. DAVID

Greetings robert Welcome to MSW with another Caldercraft Victory, which will give you a few years of real enjoyment, building a wonderful model. You will never be lost for help and advice during your build, it's always there for you. I look foward to following your log with interest, and the best advice I can and many others will give you is take you time, enjoy the build, and create yourself something special... DAVID

Greetings Jerry I cannot believe the speed this build is going. Well I have retuned after a small problem. The build is looking really good and your photos are excellent, as are your explanations. Yep looks like you will soon be turning to the masts and yards, plus the part we shall refrain from mentioning for the moment. Keep up the good work Jerry. ......DAVID

One thing you will never be short of is advice from all of the Victory builders and other members on this cracking site. I myself look forward to watching your build progress, and my own advice is what other members will advise is take your time. Yep it's going well. DAVID

Greetings Jerry Well there's lots been going on here, and all clever stuff to boot. So you returned to your victory left overs for help, and one of the best buys we ever made were those eyelets. Carry on with the good work. I am just about finished the vanishing of the decks. It feels like I have been scrubbing them . Regards DAVID

Hello paul It looks like you have had no probs at all. So I am now contemplating buying one. What I was concerned with was the max distance from the chuck to the back stop, or what is the max length of dowel you can turn. Yep you've got it cracked, well done Paul. Regards DAVID

Hello Glenn Don't rush into buying the pegasus , I have the the kit, and it was my next project after the victory, until the admiral decided she wanted a galleon making . And choose the royal yacht caroline. So it is well possible I will not build the pegasus. I should really finish the other victory which as you know has been started. So hold fire on the pegasus. DAVID

Hello Glenn Thanks for the post. It's a bit boring at the moment as you can prob tell. I need to be further on before I start to enjoy it more. I think it's something to do with finishing the victory. To be honest I have another ship already started as you might know, and have just brought it back into the shipyard. The Admiral thinks I should start to build it along side the RC. It's the mantua victory!!! What I was going to ask is how are you fitting the buckets???? DAVID

Hello Keith It looks to me we are at the same stage of the build. Your planking looks splendid. As I said, I will be glad when it's out of the way, and I can really start to enjoy the build. I think we are very lucky to have some wonderful builds to follow, and very rarely need to refer to the plans. Keep enjoy your build. Regards DAVID

Greetings all Thanks for all your comments and advice. Just to bring you up to date I have completed all the deck planking apart from two small areas at the bows. I decided to varnish the decks with clear Matt, but was not happy so have ended up using satin as you can see on the photos, which is not yet dry. I also tried out medium oak on test pieces but it darkened the end grain which I had suspected would happen. So another night of boring planking to do tomorrow, plus the inner bulwarks to plank, and then I can start to make some impression on the build. DAVID

Greeting jan Wonderful work as it has always been. I have just finished my deck planking. I only ever use the supplied plans for a quick reference, as the standard of all the caroline builds and logs are outstanding. Keep enjoying your build and post lots of photos for me to refer to. I think I will buy some of this Sculpey stuff and give it a whirl. Best regards DAVID

Greetings Jerry Cracking stuff. And nice photos. You are certainly enjoying it , and really bombing along. Keep up the excellent work. Tell you what's mind, it's starting to look a bit precarious at the front Jerry.. Best wishes DAVID

Greetings Gil Like SJORS I simply sat back and watched your build develop over the past few years, and simply enjoyed every minute of it. When I first joined MSW and decided to build the Victory i was immediately directed to ....The Anatomy of Nelson's Ships by Longbridge and Gil Middletons log. I don't know how many times I have asked a member a question for advice , and been asked " have you had a look on Gil's log ?" or " Has Gil got a jig for it ? ".. The answer was often there. There were quite a few times we would read the words next to a photo saying....The real ship.. Which you probably had to tell us, or you were playing spot the difference. Yep your build was a joy to follow , thanks a lot and good luck with whatever you decide to build next. I shall wait in anticipation. Regards DAVID

Greetings all At last an update. Thanks a lot for the comments and the advice I have received which is always welcome. The finish of the Hull is forgotten about for now. As you can see only the main deck needs planking. I have planked the stern transom and used red ochre on the bulwarks. The opening covers will not be fitted in position yet as I intend to install lighting so will need to run wiring in. In all I am happy, even though things look a bit crumby at the minute, but will soon be tidied up. As you can see there is also a breakage at the bow, which is normal for me, so no problem. I shall plod on in my willy nilly fashion and here's a few photos. Thanks a lot. DAVID
